I wouldn't suggest it's an end-all-be-all but I would put some stock into it. Crean didn't bring his team down just for kicks..he wanted to get something out of it. His players are used to his system while we are learning what Hugs wants our guys to do. I would say that would put Marquette ahead of the curve in relation to KSU. And both are competitive guys...while it was certainly not the instensity of a regular season conference game I'm sure they both wanted a good level of intensity to get their players prepared for the season to start off the right way.
Oh, and we didn't have Walker just yet.
BTW, Marquette was picked 4th just one point behind 3rd Syracuse in pre-season Big East poll. That tells you the Big East coaches anticipate the Warriors being pretty damn good.

Agreed, MU is definately a solid team. Wonder if Stewart was playing?
-
if it was just a &@#% around and experiment type of scrimmage, they wouldn't keep score. we are good.
-
theyre not flying players in to screw around. They could mess around without bringing a team in. I think the team bought into huggies already but this hopefully is the start of them seeing results. Granted its not near as good as beating a ranked team in the reg season but definitely a positive step

Today's leading scorers:
KState: Lance Harris 15 points
Marquette: Dominic James 21 points
We had 84 and our leading scorer had only 15? I'm doing the salsa over this news. (http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/3100/2126ft7.gif)

What if we are really good this year?
It will be so strange.

Huggins = GOD!! :notworthy:  :notworthy:
(sorry for the :notworthy: stunner)

What if we are really good this year?
You still don’t understand. Huggins could coach a team of Girl Scouts into the NCAA Tournament. Honest! His problem has been getting his team past the second round, but his past team’s talent level has not been as great as it could have been, and I have this feeling that the worm has turned on this issue. We are still a year away from being elite. But this year will still be sweet...

Let's just worry about making the NCAA Tourney this year. Next year? The sky is the ceiling! But for this year let's just make it into the Tourney. I have a bottle of '151' chilling already...

Anything short of a final four will be a disappointment.

Yeah, what if we *are* really good this year? I think a lot of us are setting our expectations (and rightly so) according to what we're used to and then bumping it up several notches. But what if Huggins gets more out of the returning talent than Wooly could have ever dreamed of getting out of them? What if we split with ku and lose, maybe, one other North game? What if we beat Baylor and Tech and aTm and OU and lose to Tejas and OSU (or switch those around however you'd like) and finish 12-4 in conference and in third place? What if we're underestimating this team?
Cripes. Talk about madness...

What is the furthest a coach (in his first year) has taken a team (that previously did not make post season play what so ever) into the tourney??

It took John Wooten over ten years to achieve success at UCLA, but then again he inherited a poor team with no winning history. Bill Self, on the other hand, has walked into one position after another where his team was assembled by the previous coach. I wonder how often Bill appreciates what Roy did for him. But then again, I wonder if Bill appreciates how little hair on his head is actually his own...

That is why I said a team that didn't get to post season play the year before. And we all know Wooden cheated, everyone did then, that really isn't relavent though... Has any coach ever inherited a team that didn't make post season the year before and even get to the tourney???
-
And we all know Wooden cheated
Do we??? You seem to come up with crap that nobody else seems to know...

Ive heard that there was some dirty stuff with boosters at UCLA but I never heard anything about Wooden. Nothing is proven so I think it is unfair to label the man a cheat.

i have family that worked at UCLA during those years. I thought that it was a known fact, guess not...

"Has any coach ever inherited a team that didn't make post season the year before and even get to the tourney???"
You're joking, right?
-
It's pretty widely accepted as fact that Wooden benefited from lots of cheating done by others.

Give Bobby Knight a call down at Texas Tech... He might be able to answer that question for you.

Oh, I don't know, some guy named Lon Kruger did it one time.
-
Bruce Pearl did it last year.

It's pretty widely accepted as fact that Wooden benefited from lots of cheating done by others.
Kareen Abdul Jabbar noted he took a pay cut when he went pro. It was widely known and there was no effort to hide it in regard to UCLA's cheating.
The NCAA slapped UCLA with 1 year of probation after Wooden retired. They noted that they knew the whole time he cheated, but UCLA was so powerful at the time they could not put them on probation.
I sort of find it ironic that there is a Wooden Award and Wooden is elevated as this icon of excellence and fair play. One again the press has selective amnesia.
As a side note, one must remember that the NCAA was not the huge machine it is today. The NIT was still a rival in basketball (though not of the same level, the field for the NCAA was so small they had legit teams and games). The CFA was threating to break the football money machine away from the NCAA, thus strangling the organization. The NCAA wasn't even involved in women's sports at the time. As a result, they were trying to avoid undermining any support from the top teams in the nation. If any went to leave (and the UCLA dynasty would have been a worst case scenario) it was possible that the NCAA would collapse.
Wooden, thus my friends, gets classified as a POS. He cheated. Never had to answer for it as a coach, or a celebrity afterward. He has had a free ride and has never issued a real mea culpa.

My bad, I knew NCAA tourney wise that is why I said post season play. Like say, the NIT. I wasn't sure if we had made it to the NIT then or if Tech had made it to the NIT. But yeah, the tourney is a no brainer...
