Usually, the registrar holds onto the domain for 30 days to give the customer a chance to re-register it.

However, if there is enough interest in the domain, they may not renew it and may submit it auction or to another person who has shown interest and wants to pay for it.   Usually, the registrar sends out notifications 90, 60, 30, 15, 10, 7, and 3 days before expiration, and then on the same day they expire.

My guess is, he doesn't have the e-mail of record anymore, OR forgot his account information OR isn't checking the e-mail of record that it's expiring.  He'll have to call and get back in to re-register, assuming they believe it's him.

I've already let network solutions know.. I'm interested in the domain.

Scout's updating software.

Updating software has nothing to do with letting the domain name expire:

Quote
This domain name expired on 10/22/2006 and is pending renewal or deletion.

Today is the 29th. It expired a week ago.

Scout's updating software.

That's not a scout issue.

The issue is the domain is expiring.  The registrar has nothing to do with Scout.

Wait a minute.  You asked me why I didn't own it.  Now you're asking me why it doesn't work?

MJROD, you confuse me. I asked why you didn't own it (because it didn't work so I assumed you didcn't own it) and then you said something to the effect of try to buy it and see what happens (which seemed like you were implying that you already owned it) thus I asked you why it didn't work (at that point, I assumed you owned it) and so on and so forth...

You seem to be confused a lot on this board.  Not sure if it's intentional or youth.. maybe both.

Seriously, the DOMAIN the word before the DOT COM.   .COM is what's called a Top Level domain.  There are several.. .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ, .INFO, .US, .MIL, .EDU.. etc..etc.

User domains start at the next level.  This is where KSUFANS comes in.     I could use the domain as a website, but I don't have to.  Instead, I create a host from the domain called www.   So for this website, I have it set to www.ksufans.com.    If I wanted to, I could also create a host for say.. wakssucks.ksufans.com   and have everyone go over there and make fun of you.   It could be a website, or an ftp site, or anything I want it to be.

I don't. But I do know that updating software has nothing to do with registering a domain name.
