Title: Computer Fixer Guys
Post by: steve dave on November 11, 2009, 10:45:20 AM
So, I tripped on the power cable of my sony VGN FW290 laptop and broke the center pin of the DC input.  It will only charge now if I stick the plastic center pin in there and wiggle around the cord.  I called Sony and they want me to ship the thing back to them and charge me $400 to fix it.  I researched it some and it seems this is because the DC input thinger is connected to the motherboard on this sob.  Some people can take it off and just solder a new one on there but I obviously don't know how to do that.  Anyone want to drive to Omaha and fix it for me?

Can you just find a small computer repair store to fix it instead?? Should be cheaper than 400 bucks.

This. Also, do you trust your office IT guy to do it? Ours is really good with stuff like that.

Ended up doing the small time computer shop route.  Guy told me they would get it done for less than $100 (parts & labor).  Very nerdy guy and very nerdy store so I feel pretty good about it.  Plus he acted all big timey nerd guy to me so I think he's legit.
