1) We don't get much pass rush. VERY inexperienced in the secondary. Good passing teams have picked us apart (Tech w/ Sheffield, OU, and Reesing threw for a lot of yards)
2) Gabbert is a load and if he gets in the open field, unlike Reesing, he can get 5-10 extra yards after contact while HOLDING onto the ball. He obviously has a lot of chemistry with his receivers judging by his numbers.
3) Snyder's offense works against OU's defense because OU is NOT an assignment disciplined D rather they turn their players loose in a "controlled chaos" type fashion. That is why w/ the duel threat running game and mobile OL(yes, our OL is mobile) we can create running lanes, cutbacks, etc. It also works against ku due to their poor LB play and base defense. But Mizzou runs more of a hybrid 4-2-5 and with LB's like Sean Weatherspoon. I'll put it this way...Braden Wilson lead blocking on ku's Springer is not like blocking 'spoon. Did I mention Aldon Smith? OMG, leads the Big 12 in sacks as a freshman and possesses an albatross-like wingspan that is the envy of 747's. Mizzou is a top 15 rushing defense...anybody notice that?
4) While I realize this game is HUGE for KSU given the past few years vs. Mizzou...this game may be even bigger for Mizzou. They had big expectations, they're wounded, cornered, and they need this one in the worst way. They have the team that has been embarrassed this year from their season.
5) I hate to say it but this one smells like ISU '04 after coming back with a few wins we think we can get to bowl eligibility and we're leading by a few scores at the half. Sproles is running for a zillion yards on the ground. Then a young ISU QB starts hitting that tall, white receiver for huge plays everywhere (Danario Alexander in this week's scenario).

love when you do this
-
Totally agree, but I also said this last week.
-
Is this a joke???
-
but that said, Missouri has the second worst coach in the Big 12, I doubt he has analyzed this to the same depth of 'Hatter, while Snyd's is rolling right now. KSU is going to roll Mizzou. MAJOR coaching advantage the next 3 weeks to KSU IMHO.
-
I'm serious here guys. The one team that has REALLY laid it on thick was Tech. Same line splits and formations. But a more talented and mobile QB guiding the attack. Like Tech going suck in a week Mizzou did the same thing against Baylor. BUT did you see how they went right through Colorado in Boulder? I don't care how bad CU may be this year that doesn't happen in Boulder unless it's maybe a Vince Young UT team or something. And that same CU team did a number of aTm's offense this week.

I am praying that Pinkel's team is Pinkel's team. In the past, when their expectations for their season have been crapped on, they have played poorly.

Let me get this straight. Mizzou wins back to back Big 12 North titles and has the "second worst coach in the Big 12"?
Please explain.

Thanks for bringing up one of my all-time favorite attended games. :woohoo:

Missouri is perplexing....not 1 TD scored in the second half during the big 12 schedule...not 1

MU is weak. Like OU, they don't know how to handle it when you hit them in the mouth. they gave 42 points to freaking Baylor. Keep them from big plays, they don't score. It just takes some teams time to adjust to the speed, but once they do, MU sucks. Waiting for you to eat some crow for last weeks, "I gotta bad feeling," episode.

All this from a 3rd string center from Pit St......... :yikes:

Good stuff Hatter. I don't like our chances this week either FWIW. :ohno:

I think this is a tougher game then the ku game was. Still think we can win but Gregory is going to have to throw the ball better then he did vs. ku. We completed 1 pass in the second half for one yard that won't cut it vs. MU. If you can get MU off balance you can light them up but we'll need to throw to do that. They struggled against the run vs. Nevada who is multiple in the run game like we are.
Defensively as far as matchups go it's kind of like ku. Need to shut down the run and force them to throw it. Once we do that we need to just tackle well and keep them from making big plays after the catch. Alexander is the guy to watch he's a load we need to tackle him well. IMO he's got more big play potential then Briscoe. I don't agree with the part about giving up lots of yards to ku we gave up 240 which is good vs. a that throws it almost every down. Less then 6.0 yards per passing attempt which is winning defensive football especially against a team that relys on the pass.
-
Colo turnover machine gave MU a number of short fields early as I recall. Their smacking of CU doesn't really scare me much.
Should be a good game though...agreed.
-
Have no freaking clue what coaching staff is going to show up from Mizzou. Players yelling at coaches on the sideline....lol

You cannot slip this one by me! We were 4-6 heading into the 2004 ISU game. :nono:

'hatter, have you seen the way our purple has rolled at home this year? This one is in the bag.

Grant Gregory threw it fine. He had several dropped balls, and his receivers stopped running the routes way too early. He put the ball in a place where only his receivers could get to the ball. He was not going to put in a position where it could get intercepted.

k-state doesn't match up well against anyone. i mean, on offense we have, what? Thomas and Banks. On defense we have, what? Fitzgerald. somehow we've played really well at home and like dogsh*t on the road (save for about 15 minutes at OU). i hope we can continue to play well at home, but at some point talent (or our lack thereof) has to win out, doesn't it? we absolutely have to win this game because we really have no shot in lincoln, imo.

i know it's a slap to the emaw euphoria.. but i think 'zacker is close to dead-on... imho this week comes down to coaching... and that makes me smile... in how many of our games have we been the favorite? dog every time? :cyclist:

I didn't think he threw it well and neither did Snyder. He said so in his post game press conference. Doesn't really matter whose fault it was though the bottom line is we have to complete more passes at a higher percentage. 43% or whatever it was vs. ku won't cut it against MU. That means QB's, WR's etc all need to step it up.

Surprised this hasn't been discussed more. I only could listen to the game, but it sounded like Gregory sucked it up most of the game. Balls overthrown, underthrown, "way to the right", etc. We only had 66 yards passing. That can't be all bad routes by the wideouts. Is he that bad or was uk's defense making him suck ass?

6) Coaching: Snyder >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Pinkel
This team reminds me a lot of some of Snyder's earlier years at KSU. People kept doubting us, kept thinking the next game would be the one we'd lose and do us in, and we just kept winning.
To paraphrase a quote from Tigerboard: "Snyder is lightyears ahead of Pinkel in coaching, miles ahead of most" :kstatriot:

I do not like how KSU matches up with ku...

1) We don't get much pass rush. VERY inexperienced in the secondary. Good passing teams have picked us apart (Tech w/ Sheffield, and OU)
2) Reesing is mobile and he has a lot of chemistry with his receivers (prolly both on & off the field...eeeuuuwww!!)
3) Snyder's offense works against OU's defense because OU is NOT an assignment disciplined D rather they turn their players loose in a "controlled chaos" type fashion. That is why w/ the duel threat running game and mobile OL(yes, our OL is mobile) we can create running lanes, cutbacks, etc. ku is more fundamentally sound w/ regards to their own assignments.
4) While I realize this game is HUGE for KSU given the past few years vs. ku, Snyder's return, etc, etc...this game may be even bigger for ku. They had big expectations, they're wounded, cornered, and they need this one in the worst way. They have the team that has been embarrassed this year from their season.
5) I hate to say it but this one smells like CU '01 after coming back from OU "moral victory" '01. Yes, this ku team is nothing
I guess you don't like the way we match up with spread offenses. Sooner or later you will probably be right but considering mu lost at home to Baylor and rushed the ball 25 times for 10 yards and the fact the Snyder has never lost to Pinkel makes me think we might have a small chance at winning Saturday :ugh:
-
I'm serious here guys.
You need to forget about the Tech game, at this point in the season it's the exception not the rule. Nobody in the conference runs an offense like theirs. The only similarity b/w MU and Tech is the O-Line splits.
P.S. Gabbert is not as mobile as Sheffield so you can forget that
-
FWIW- Grant Gregory had two touchdown passes dropped. Lamark Brown had the one in the north endzone hit his hands. I was sitting on the west side by the endzone and Lamark should have caught that pass. It was not overthrown! Then Brandon Banks dropped a pass that hit him right on the numbers that was an easy 6. So, while GG might not have had a good day passing he certainly didn't have any help.

Reading this thread, it is no surprise that there are 8,000 unsold tickets to this game. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that those of you in this thread who don't like our chances will still be at the game. You're obviously more interested fans, just be virtue of the fact that you get online to talk about KSU sports. And I commend you for that.
However, for the other 75% of K-Staters who live in driving distance of BSFS, this "I don't like our chances this week" attitude is a killer. We don't have 8,000 empty seats because of a poor economy. We have it because most of our fans still think we suck. And it pisses me off.
The FACT is that people have been saying "I don't like our chances this week" since summer. Fans said it about ISU, A&M, CU, ku, and now they're saying it about MU. Even in the UCLA and OU games we were in great positions to win late in the 4th quarter. Fans say our offense blows and we have no talent. Fans say our defense blows and we have no talent. But week in and week out, we continue to get better and play good, competitive football. And we're winning.
We are 6-4 and we haven't lost to a North opponent.
Our offensive line has played great. Gregory is rarely touched. Thomas is leading the conference in rushing.
Our running game has looked great. Thomas is a beast. Probably one of the best backs in Snyder's tenure.
Our QB has played great. Yes I use the term great. Doesn't turn the ball over. Passes sparingly but relatively effectively. When we need a first down, he always seems to get it. Under the circumstances, I think his performance has been great.
Our passing game has looked average. It is what it is. Rarely used. Not Snyder's M.O. this season. rush and control clock.
Our coaching has been great. We run the ball well. We win the time of possession battle. We don't turn the ball over. We are not penalized very often. Very disciplined team.
Our Defense has been good. Other than Tech, and the first quarter against OU, this Defense has been stout. ISU 14. CU 10. ku 10. A&M beat down. Again, well coached.
Long story short. This team has gotten a lot more crap from our "fans" than they deserve. I, for one, don't think we are overwhelmingly athletically inferior. I don't believe we are simply overachieving. I think we are coached well and playing fundamental football. Run the ball, don't turn it over, and play good defense. We've done them all pretty god damn well. Our fans suck.

Not kaiser and I am not going to rank the coaches but I do see where he is coming from, Pinkel is a fantastic recruiter but as a coach? Not real impressed myself. He played in 2 big 12 championships and got blown out in both, kind of a product of a diluted north as opposed to great coaching IMO. Let's see how Pinkie fares in the next couple years. He has the talent.,but can he keep winning?

good lord. and he doesn't have that much talent.
the guy has won 22 games the past 2 years.
