Why did Jim Wooldridge always take players by the arm and escort them to the scorers bench, so they can check in?  Is this common?

I think he was giving them instructions.  I don't think it's that uncommon.

I should have mentioned he rarely if at all talked to them. Just grabbed em.

He was mumbling a prayer and wanted God to know just exactly who he was hoping would save his job.  “Please lord let this blessed soul score a triple double for me...”.
