Title: Defense should get props too
Post by: rjd27 on November 07, 2009, 03:38:54 PM
DT ran the ball down ku's throat when given the chance, but the Cats' defense deserves some major credit.  It bended, but never broke.

I was worried - no - expecting ku to score TDs in the 4th quarter and they could only muster one FG.  The Wildcat defense was on the field for most of the 4th quarter and really, didn't get off the field starting with about 5 minutes left in the 3rd.  The K-State offense early in the fourth went 3-and-out and I thought that might be the game.
But, I didn't see K-State's defenders with their hands on their hips and they kept at it.  An amazing, from-the-gut performance.

i thought they did a great job stopping the run and getting to reesing, but i think they got really lucky that ku had penaltys at pivotal moments.  Without a couple of false starts, they might have scored a couple more times.  The D needs to get better at stopping the pass because for awhile it didnt look like they could stop the hawks.

From my perspective it looked like the game plan was to keep everything in front, and not get sucked up on 3rd down and let them throw over the top . . . 1st downs were fine, just keep them out of the endzone.

As conservative as I thought they were going to be with a lead . . . which was frighteningly conservative.

ku's receivers were open all day it seemed, or K-State was playing off of them so much.  ku converted too many long 3rd downs, but again, bend don't break.  The Cats defense also only had one penalty I can recall in the 2nd half, and a couple of passes could have been picked.

THEY SCORED 10 POINTS! ku couldn't do sh*t.
