Post by: Lemmy Katminster on November 06, 2009, 07:13:26 PM: Just a little something I thought about on the way home from the job this eve - has anyone considered the parallel between mango and glen mason? some interesting factoids:

Mason's tenure at hawkville: 1988 - 1996 (9 years)
Mango's: 2002 - 2009 (8 yeears)

Mason's overall record: 47-54-1 (.461 winning percentage)
Mango's overall record 50-44 (.530 winning percentage)

Mason's conf record: 25-37-1 (.400 winning percentage)
Mango's conf record 23-37 (.380 winning percentage)

Mason's Big Breakout Season - 1995 - Year 8 - (10-2/5-2 + Aloha Bowl Championship)
Mango's Big Breakout Season - 2007 - Year 6 (12-1/7-1 + Orange Bowl Championship)

Mason's next year after Breakout - 1996 (4-7/2-6)
Following year - 1997 - Gone

Mango's next year after Breakout - 2008 (8-5/4-4 + Insight Bowl Championship)
Following Year - 2009 (5-3/1-3)

anyway - not sure what it means but seems like a similar trend -average record overall, subpar conference record, and one really great year, with a lacking command performance.

Yes, Phog Allen was football coach for a year (1920) !
