Title: A&M Season Ticket Sales
Post by: michigancat on October 26, 2006, 10:13:22 AM
I knew Aggies didn't really care about basketball, but this is ridicuous:

Quote
The men have sold 3,800 season tickets and the women 1,023. Those numbers are up from last year, but with an arena that seats 12,500 in a community of roughly 150,000, that's not Hog Heaven. That's hogwash.

"I don't need to be preachin' to y'all," Blair said Wednesday. "You're the choir."

KSU, which hired Bob Huggins as its men's coach, has sold 13,000 season tickets in men's basketball for an arena that seats 13,340.

Men's season tickets at KSU range from $208 to $350. The women's prices are $70 to $120.

A&M has increased its prices significantly, especially for the men. Some tickets require donations ranging from $75 to $2,000. But you still can buy season packages for $375 or $461. For the women, you can buy them for $153.

That keeps up and Billy the Great will be gone soon.

Billy Clyde is to me as Scott Drew is to Sys.

I'm just not impressed with the guy, and all the love for him kind of annoys me.

I will say I think he did a very good job last year.  Kind of surprised me.  He does have some nice players and his style is a winner if refs "let his teams play", meaning foul the heck out of their opponents.

Posted that on GP btw.  Interesting numbers.

All of his good players are Melvin Watkins recruits.  I'd be suprised if one of his recruits has scored in double figures...at all.

True, but he does have a couple Top 100 players (Bryan Davis, Donald Sloan) coming in and DeAndre Jordan (#11 RSCI) and another Top 100 kid (B.J. Holmes) in next year's class.

The worst college basketball crowd I've ever seen was at the K-State aTm game in January 2001.  And considering some of the sparsely attended basketball games I've been to, that's saying something.

It was kind of fun watching what was maybe Quentin Buchanon's finest moment.  And getting yelled at by some old Aggie fan for daring to cheer while sitting in the seat that the ticket window sold me was worth the trip by itself.

Where is Wildcat Matt?  I bet he could increase ticket sales.

I would love for Wildcat Matt to post on this board.

He's much less annoying now that none of his posts say "mismanagement".

And I'll never forgot that NIT clinching big win in KC.

That was a fun game at the time.  Its good to know that games like that will seem insignificant in the near future.

I had front row seats...very fun game.  Probably the most spirited KSU game under Wooldridge I've seen in person.

one of my all time favorite home games was against tex a&m where r.c. slocums kid legitimately shot a freethrow that hit only the left of the backboard and no rim.

My #2 Wooly moment only behind being in Lawrence last year.  The Texas game was a lot of fun, but its significance was below those two (the Atchison clincher vs UT in the snow was just as significant).  Iowa early in Wooly's era is up there as well.

Anyway, its good to know the days of needing that "big win" in the Big 12 tournament to get into the NIT are likely over.

to get into the NIT

I think that at this point we would all be very disappointed if we had to go to the NIT instead of the NCAA Tourney...
