Sorry if already posted. I'm sure many of the locals on this board are familiar with this story but it's always good to hear these types of stories coming out of the best state of the union.

always amazes me how people react to "small towns" around Kansas. It's like they can't believe people can live there or something.

I did some analysis a few years back, and you would save many, many more lives if you poured all your money into prostate cancer early detection and treatment.  Much easier to cure if caught early, but the least early detection.

Brown ribbons aren't as cute as pink ones though.

Another reason that prostate cancer doesn't get as much love is that it mostly kills older men (70+). Breast cancer kills 2.5 times more younger women than prostate cancer does younger men which is why it tugs at peoples' heart strings. However, prostate and colon cancer get their far share of the NIH and NCI money for research. The NIH money is what really matters. The thousands of dollars that get raised at local events pales in comparison to the tens of billions that the NIH grants out every year. Also, we already have a tried and true and cheap method of early detection for prostate cancer (not perfect but accurate enough for most). What we really need is someone to do some research on actually getting men to the doctor before they something goes drastically wrong.
