Title: okay, I'll say it
Post by: The Kaiser on November 01, 2009, 11:32:10 PM
old ballz has already exceeded my expectations for this season.  If KSU doesn't win another game this season it doesn't diminish the job that has been done thus far.

That said, JFC the division is there for the picking.  I just hope OB's sphincter doesn't tighten up like it used to in years past for the big game.  I have seen NOTHING from ku, Mu or Nu that makes me think they are a better team than KSU.  Any way you slice it, 2-1 down the stretch wins this division IMHO, and OB's deserves to have one handed to him after all the close calls.

Their talent is better than ours. But Bill is coaching the hell outa this team, we have a chance.

Despite people constantly saying that, I'm not so sure it's true. Sure all the other teams have superior recruiting classes than we do over the past 5 years, but when you actually look at the guys who get on the field every saturday, I'm not so sure the difference is as big as people think. The other teams in question have maybe 1 or 2 play-makers that maybe we're lacking, but when you go down the line and look at the match-ups position by position, we don't match up too badly. :ksu:

The whole "out talent" thing is ridiculous. Take our next three opponents and I guarantee you that you can't find a better running back than Daniel Thomas.

If we don't win another game this season how is that exceeding your expectations?  How low were your expectations?  If we don't win another game we are absolutely terrible.

You would think that talented qbs are lining up to come here and dominate the north

I was wrong about you, you do love your team.  Reverse psychology.  Is this a good example.  You really do love your wife even though you tell her how ugly she is every day.  I am starting to get it oh great administrater.

this. Winning freaking 5 games might "meet expectations" but it's because those expectations were that this was a sh*tty team.  we win 7 games, then I'll get the knee pads out for some OB tea bagging.

yeah,

still not convinced we'll win another one.  if we win two I"ll never be negative again.

I agree it silly to say we've met or exceeded expectations at this point in time.  Its all relative.  If we stop now, yeah, we've probably gone beyond what I expected, especially compared to where we were at after the Lafayette game.  But as we know, things can change quickly.

If we go on to lose to average/below average ku, MU, and NU teams, then you start to make comparisons to the 04/05 seasons.  Again, in a season where the North is bad, we can't take advantage of a bad league.  I don't care if its Snyder's first year back, he's already shown in Big 12 play (besides the Tech game) that we should win at least 1, maybe 2 of those games.

OB's spihincter tightening up for big games?  Don't really remember that I guess he did struggled against top 10 teams but who doesn't?  We don't play anyone remotely clost to a top 10 or even top 25 team.   Snyder won 13 out of his last 14 vs. ku and his last 14 vs. MU.  Guess it kind of just depends on your definition of "big game".

Snyder's MO through DoD was that he RARELY lost games that he shouldn't have lost.

Notable exceptions
Marshall (injured ell)
03 OSU although they weren't bad and it was a roadie.
00 aTm.

My EMAW will take a seriously tough blow if we lose out.

i had predicted 5-7 before the season. So if we lose out, he met my expectations. However, after the La-La game, i didn't figure we would win 2 more games. So in that respect, we have exceeded them.

If we lose out, it should take a huge blow.  There is no excuse for losing out at this point, especially with a 1-3 ku and 1-3 MU coming to the Bill.

If we don't win another game, you can be as negative as you want.  Bring it hard.

ku/MU/NU are all much worse than I expected them to be.  What excuse is there to lose out to them if we aren't terrible? :dunno:

Should expectations change as the season progresses?  If so, I'd expect we win 2 of our last 3 games against 2 opponents Snyder has traditionally dominated--and both of those opponents (ku, Mizzou) have to come here.  Just for good measure, this team would EXCEED expectations if it could throw a win over the Nubbs into the finale.  Is that an acceptable framework?

Yes, that would be far exceeding my expectations.

If we lose out the excuse will be that we just don't have the talent and they just ran out of gas because they played their hearts out. It will not be blamed on ob

Quote from: party line if we lose out
the fact that we were even in the race and had a legitimate shot at the North is a testament to how good of a coach Bill is.  we were just a few plays away.

Frack it, I say we win out.  I have seen nothing from those other 3 that suggest we can't beat them.  And the cats are playing better than I expected and like steve dave said all 3 of the others are not near as good as everyone expected.  So I see no reason we won't win 1 of those games I see a 82.5% chance we win 2 of those games and about a 66% chance we will all 3 games.

If we lose this weekend against uk then all the % drop about 40 points.

Talent is the great dis-equalizer.  (I was pretty sure that was the point of folks sarcastically joking about Bill "coaching 'em up" before the season.)  The FACT is we don't have as much talent as ku, MU, and NU (this year).  That is not an excuse for losing out, that is a valid reason for losing out.  Not sure why that is hard to understand.

My guess at this point is we go 1-2 down the stretch, in which case we will exceed my preseason prediction of 5-7, and Bill will have done a helluva job with this team.

We are the only north team with an NFL calliner running back. Talent level is not close there
