Title: AA MHK info posted here
Post by: Rick Daris on October 22, 2009, 12:16:28 PM
just got back from trip utilizing the new mhk AA service. here is my info. sorry it's not very good but better than nothing.

got to airport bright and early sunday after a cat's fball victory over a@m. got there about 45minutes before the flight was supposed to leave. medium sized line. only one person checking in people. no kiosks. over forty five minutes later i finally had my ticket in hand. hilariously slow/horrible checking in of passengers that eventually led to the plane taking off 45 minutes late. seriously. 45 minutes late just cause they couldn't get people checked in efficiently. i think they were supposed to have two people working but one overslept and was hungover and didn't get there until kinda the end. anyway, the flight was overbooked. people were told they might not get on. i was not worried as i already picked out my seat a few weeks in advance and had a seat number. a husband/wife texas a&m duo did not both get on the flight. she did but he didn't. he was obviously the winner since he was able to soak up eight more hours of manhattan greatness. the plane is tiny but amazing.

flight back last night was again late in departing. this time due to weather and stuff. plane only had five empty seats. not bad for a wednesday night flight. a lot of ugly people on the flight back though. A LOT. probably just visitors/tourists. also, it was raining and even a normal sized carry on can't be carried on due to the small size of the plane so you check it w/ a red tag right before boarding the plane. anyway, last night it's pouring rain and they unload the luggage and then just leave it outside in the rain while you wait to unboard. jfc. put up an awning/tent structure or something.

that's it.

Daris, i've heard similar. Let's be honest here, MHK is small-time and pathetic. American Airlines deserves better.

We need some sort of airport tax from the taxpayers of Manhattan.

can you further describe the plane? how does it compare to the ones you usually take on a mci-denver type of flight.

well. i mean it's kinda small and all. only overhead on one side and the overhead is not regular size overhead. the seat situation wasn't all that bad (leg room) but again, i am not that tall. fun part is that you can really feel that you're in a jet. feels like your just flat out flying. like fast. also a little turbulence is pretty fun in it. again, you really feel it.

yeah. and they use that jet a lot at big-time airports.

too sum up...the jet itself is big time. the storage space on board is not, neither are mhk airport employees. both flights were very full. one overbooked. the other at over 90%. overall thumbs up but they really need a kiosk. i mean, dear god. one kiosk and things would've been much, much better.

you would be an incredible ambassador.

also, the guy who showed up late really looked like he had just rolled out of bed, not showered and just put stuff in his hair and combed it straight down so that it didn't look like "bead head". humorous. i wanted to call him on it but i was a little "tired" from the night before myself.  :pirate:

I heard there was a little airport in Pennsylvania that used up most of the tax money for small airports like MHK.

had a similar experience when i flew back to bigD for the tech weekend. plane arrived an hour late. fortunately the football team was departing during this delay so i got to see them  :jerkoff:. however i was very impressed on the return trip that it only took 1hr and 3min from take-off to landing.  funny thing happened in bigD before coming back: both our flight and a flight to raleigh, nc were both scheduled to depart from the same gate at the same time....of course they moved the raleigh flight back. was sitting next to a tar heel at the time. i gave him a shrug and boarded my plane...felt VERY elite.

We have a company jet at work, and let me tell you from experience. The smaller the plane, the more elite you are.

Would not mind Frontier starting service in MHK.  Would not mind that at all.  Excellent usage of "bird in the sky" btw.

both lilbrobigDcat and bigDcat Sr. were going to try to fly up for the ku game. unfortunately, they will have to make the 7 hr drive seeing the roundtrip for both of them was going to be over $3600 for the weekend  :yikes:

daris, this weekend I flew into ICT from MSP and returned through ORD, and the baggage sit'ation was exactly the same at ICT and ORD.  MSP had a nice place to pick up/drop off your bags in the jetway, though.

i guess it would be harder to do at ord or even ict. they have multiple gates/terminals. mhk doesn't. every plane unloads at the same exact place regardless. we should be trendsetters and build a structure of some sort. our smallness should benefit here. maybe waters true value can chip in on this and sponser or something. idk. that way when captain business traveler from arlington heights has to fly into mhk during a downpour he's like "wow! covered luggage retrieval area. even ord doesn't have this. color me impressed."
