Title: Modern Warfare 2. Release is in 3 weeks.
Post by: The1BigWillie on October 20, 2009, 11:01:02 AM
Anyone else just sick waiting for this?  Picking it up at midnight at Gamestop and taking the next day off.  Probalby going to try to play 24 hours straight.

Would you recommend meth, cocaine, adderol, or red bull?

This is my most anticipated game in years. Maybe decades. I'm tempted to take the 10th off.

LOL, I was just having this conversation with a friend yesterday.  I don't want all the unemployed dudes to get the good guns ahead of me and find all the hidey holes.

I prepaid....may even go over and pick it up at 12 am.

I was looking at the 129.99 Tritton at Best Buy but have a friend who has Earforce X-31 and loves them. He can hear the direction fire is coming from. Helps him a ton.  The X-31 is cheaper. I'm going to read more reviews before buying.

I'm pretty f'n amped for it too. I've been playing all my old FPS's for the past month and a half to prepare myself. I also stocked up on Mountain Dew and adult diapers.

Nobody really knows, IW has said a lot of stupid sh*t, but pretty much Activision just wants to kill the PC gaming market more than likely.  Sad, as I loved Medal of Honor Allied Assault - the first creation of IW before they were even IW.

PC games always get tons of custom modifications made by the community.  IW said they aren't even releasing an SDK for MW2.

Tritton 720's or Astro A40s. A40s are by far the best but cost $250. Both have dedicated mixers.

there is a big different though, hence the price difference for the a40s.  the trittons aren't 5.1, the a40s are.  pete if you have a 5.1 channel receiver you can run your 360 through it and save money and just buy some 5.1 headphones.  if not, and you want to take full advantage of the dolby 5.1 sound, you need to step up to the pro series trittons or the a40s.

The 720's are indeed simulated 5.1, but I personally think they sounded better and more realistic than the "true 5.1" pros. Also, if you want to chat, you'll need more than just 5.1 headphones.

I believe I am going to go with the Tritton 720, and not the Astro because of price.

However, just to confirm, I don't have a 5.1 receiver, but I will still be cool if I get the Tritton 720 (i.e. I don't need an extra receiver, correct?).

Correct. It comes with a mixer that does all that. You run a fiber optic cord from your box to the receiver. Pretty sure everything is included with the Tritton.

a) modern warfare was rendered at 1024 x 600 and it didn't create any problems
b) consoles will upscale to whatever you want it at
c) the large majority of people with PCs won't be able to run this game at it's highest settings either

1. Yes, and that is pathetic.
2. Upscaling doesn't do sh*t
3. Um, that is not true.  Only a very very very very very very cheap computer - one with a bad cpu and integrated graphics are incapable of running it higher than the consoles.  My computer can play it (MW1, WAW) with ease @ 1920x1200, with AA and AF

you should know better than anyone (because this has to do with computers) that gamers don't play games at extreme settings.  hell, the console settings are probably higher than most experienced gamers are playing at.

and no one here is going to blame you for only playing a few hours per month, there really aren't any good pc games to spend your time with.

and it's not fair to say the game isn't graphically demanding and then discard anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering

u digg?   8-)

I know, I used to play CS 1.6 and the original Call of Duty competitively in high school, and use very low settings, but the only people who do that are the very competitive players, which is a very small minority.

AA, and AF aren't part of the game engine  :shy:

PC gamers who hate console gaming are obviously not seeing this and suck with a controller. Besides, the genre that needs a keyboard and mouse and suck with a controller are strategy games. Shooters are just fine.

What makes it worse is IW is doing this so they can charge PC users for downloadable content, just like gullible console users.  Also, console games always cost $10 more than PC games because of fees they have to pay to Sony/Microsoft, but there isn't one for PC games, which makes the $60 ridiculous.

Quote from: Former IW President Grant Collier
We got a call from Microsoft who said they want us to do Live Anywhere for CoD 4. They just left a message--we didn’t actually get the phone call. We talked about it, and really feel that we worked really hard on the Xbox 360 version, and there’s a lot of things that we do that we didn’t do for the PC because of the control you have with a mouse and keyboard which allows you to have a higher level of precision. When you are on the 360, you have auto-aim, and you have a movement compensator so when you’re getting close to the edge of the screen it moves really quickly, but when you’re in the middle of the screen it slows down so you can target. We don’t do that on the PC.

OH HEY, it's mr. Pissclams from RTCW :D

Well you've sure had an interesting decline in your gaming career! You reached your height of self accomplishment around 03, where you so skillfully puckered your lips to accommodate the all star h4x cast of team fx. I was impressed when you dropped the admin hat to fulfill your aspirations as a RTCW SOLDAT.... and what a statement you made  self vaping yourself in the lower bunker on shrub. And finally, you've been led to the cute little consoles, taking up the argument against PC gaming. Tbh, I'm surprised you're not advocating Wii Sports- all tendencies certainly point in that direction.

Cliff notes:

-The last PC game CLAMS played  was made in 01. Recommended GFX req. of a Geforce 2. Anything beyond that is clearly "high-end hardware". Consider that before listening to advice on hardware.  Mainstream pc gaming rig is a 3ghz core2/512mb gfx card imo.  I have a 3.66ghz and a 4890 1gig. My system could be built for $400-500, and runs every PC game I own max settings, Crysis High settings.

-Competitive PC gaming does indeed blow right now, was hopeful for Wolf, which I boycott, and now will boycott MW2 until they at least add dedicated servers

-PC Gaming is not dead, nor will it ever die. The only thing that has ever held it back is hardware and ignorance. PCs have already reached the heights of TV's, soon everyone will have one in each room of there house. And the more time that progresses, the more advance hardware will get. Before you know it, a game like MW2 will be like a web flash game you can play on your "old" pc. That resolves 50% of the problem...

-I own a 360 and Wii. They're fun for certain games, but I would never sell out FPS to console over PC - UNLESS consoles get dedicated boxes and better input devices.

-Clams is stuck in some sort of gaming purgatory. Somehow able to look down upon console gamers/gaming, while simultaneously endorsing them.

I used to be a die hard PC gamer. Still am. But to discredit console gaming is pretty laughable. Casual gaming with friends in effortless matchmaking is great entertainment.

Scientific fact that FPS games suck on consoles.

Sports games and racing games are fine, I do own a PS3.
here's another scientific fact, fps pc gaming is dead.

look, i've been playing FPS on pc's since before you knew what a headshot was.  i was/still am a virtual god in the CPMA community.  i've been to quakecon and worked for the CPL through CAL.  those days are over.  game producers/manufacturers gave up on the pc community a long time ago and focus now where the biggest customer base is, consoles.    you can deny it all you want but you're living in the past

Also, lol at arguing about price when it comes to gaming. PC gaming is far more expensive.

And I'm glad you picked up on the Crysis jab. And nice try at putting down a port of a crapty game. You're stuck bitching about a crapty port of a great game. Sucks for you.

Let me know how awesome Sims 3 is, since that's the only game out on PC this year. Maybe Diablo 3 will make it out before New Years? How will you share your time between 2 whole games???

You don't have to pay for a theme. Nobody is forcing you to. Nobody needs them to play a game. It's incredibly stupid to buy them, but it's incredibly stupid to bitch about them as well.

OH HEY, it's mr. Pissclams from RTCW :D

Well you've sure had an interesting decline in your gaming career! You reached your height of self accomplishment around 03, where you so skillfully puckered your lips to accommodate the all star h4x cast of team fx. It's not dead. This weekend I"ll be playing borderlands, before it's release I'll be playing the PC exclusive game killingfloor, and it's boatload of free content they just released for it. I'll agree to a certain extent, FPS competitive gaming does feel dead right now on pc. But saying PC FPS is dead when it still has huge big exclusives like crysis, arma, killing floor...it's just silly. Next gen games playground is on the pc, it's where we get a glimpse of the future. Exactly my point. Using a 3 year old crapty game as bragging rights pretty much proves PC gaming is dead.

And I thought Borderlands was already out? Oh yeah, it's already out on consoles. Not PC.

Whats the 3 year old crappy game? Crysis? Please, you'll be spamming this message board with the same drivel you've been spewing about Modern Warfare 2.  Crysis will eventually make it to consoles, after they slaughter the gfx...  Good point on borderlands though - we get borderlands a few days later, you get crysis a few years later. We get borderlands with improved gfx, better controls,- you'll get crysis with shabby framerates, blurry textures, and don't forget THUMBSTICKS . Fear not, I'm sure they'll throw in fullscale armor or something in the consoles collectors edition...  :hope:

Crysis comparison

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMZEO3z4maE

Regarding Borderlands, the game was developed for the PC: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/randy_pitchford_talks_borderlands_piracy_and_why_he_doesn%E2%80%99t_trust_valve

"Randy Pitchford: The first thing is that we author our content on the PC. With Borderlands, we’re not porting the game to the PC, we’re starting there. The PC is our development platform."

It's funny that you can talk crap on PC gaming without somehow comprehending that the WORST characteristics of recent PC games, is due to the lower standards ported from the consoles you favor...

Crysis is an ok game, nothing wrong with it.  As far as "no good games on the pc"...not at all.  Games that console people think are amazing wouldn't end up very popular on the PC anyway because PC gamers have higher standards.

Yeah, that's why he brought up Crysis as an exclusive must have. The generic console gamer is indeed too stupid, and the remnants of PC gamers are too retarded (as you can plainly see).

Ah yes, time to break out the sales pie-charts. Data promotes wii purchase... have fun with that.  :)

As stated, I own a PC, 360, and wii. If available the FPS are purchased on PC. Now  at your house, I'm sure your pc does suck, no argument there. Maybe mom will upgrade this Christmas?

I wasn't comparing sales between consoles and PC. I was showing the most popular PC games. Which are all old and suck. Because PC gaming is dead.

And my PC- Quadro 5800, 2.8 Ghz i7, 8 GB. I still game a little bit on PC. It's just difficult when there is nothing for it. But yeah, let's keep digging a hole for yourself. This is fun.

Its funny that the only argument console gamers have is "our games sell better"

You guys have essentially admitted that if developed for all platforms independently, the PC version will be better in every way.

Bestbuy huh... weren't you the guy on page 1 that was pissin your britches about the 720 headset from bestbuy? $300 for a headset that "simulates" surround sound.... Now thats a L O L. Kinda fitting of how the console "simulates" the FPS experience found on pc tho.  Knowing that lil tid bit, I bet you paid $100 for the 360 wireless adapter....(fail) Clearly I'm the one playing the "idiot role"....

You know, it's fine if you're a casual console gamer who plays games on the weekend and want to check out mw2, that concession to mediocrity is forgivable. BUT, if you're a douchebag who takes the day off from work to twiddle your thumbs on a $60 game wearing a $300 headset with your collectors edition night vision goggles all while boasting sales charts and your personal superiority because you advocate crapty purchases, your ass needs to be SHOT.

If your not looking to single handily recover the economy through personal spending, pc gamers seem to like the speedlink line of true 5.1 headsets... available for half the price, and no, not available at bestbuy.  They have the added benefit of not looking like a headset from 1984....or maybe the retro look of the TRITTON is your thing...

Is that like the gfx card they bundle with a dell? Good choice on pairing that with your nice processor....kinda like snow tires on a viper.

Actually, it helps me a lot when I'm modeling 75,000 square foot buildings in Revit and 3DS Max. It costs more than your Best Buy computer total.

Nice way to cover up your idiot remarks with half assed insults. You're really shining here. First off, LOL if you think I'd own a $300 (they're $120, btw) headset with a much more expensive surround sound setup already hooked up. And also, how the hell are you still not grasping why I posted the sales chart? Sims Fracking TWO was on that list. And you can go on and on about how much PC gaming provides compared to console gaming. The 2 idiots (you and the other guy) in this thread can't comprehend this argument. PC GAMING IS DEAD. HAVE FUN WITH WOW AND YOUR TWO AWESOME GAMES A YEAR. The fact we're in a thread about an FPS, and you're bragging about how PC gaming is purely for FPS gaming, yet there wasn't one single FPS on the top 20 sales chart for PC should tell you something. You had to brag about CRYSIS. LOL! I don't even remember what games came out on consoles in 2007. Oh, but I'm just comparing sales showing consoles are more popular. What an idiot. It even took you two replies 40 minutes apart for you to think of a comeback. Nice one.

And you "running" lightwave with a system with "1/4 the horsepower" is pretty LOL when you probably don't even know how to use it, especially when I'm doing the most demanding thing possible with millions of dollars on the line.

So what you're saying is....your important irl.... I wasn't going to say anything, but I'm puff daddy.

"you're bragging about how PC gaming is purely for FPS gaming"

No. I have said that I buy FPS on PC when available over the 360 because I prefer the performance, gfx, controls, mod support, dedicated servers, etc. It's not my only platform. I'll give you an example, halo odst is not on pc, yet I own it. I'll let you think about that for a bit.

Oh, we're playing stopwatch internets arguing now, how neat. Guess it took you like....a day to think of a comeback then? I of course don't really think that, I realize that you're busy drawing super buildings on your super computer, while hanging out with your super family at your super house.

I dabble in lightwave, and I don't run it on a system with 1/4 of the power, but I have before.  If you check out some of my vids on youtube, you can see when I use some modeling: www.youtube.com/loxodonte1   (plz subscribe)

about the headset, I had no idea how much it cost, I thought you said it was $250, guess that was something different. Still....$120 for a headset that doesn't do surround when true 5.1 sets exist for the same or less...

"The 2 idiots (you and the other guy) in this thread can't comprehend this argument. PC GAMING IS DEAD. HAVE FUN WITH WOW AND YOUR TWO AWESOME GAMES A YEAR."

My argument is primarily that PC gaming is better for FPS. Though I'd also say PC gaming is far from dead. The newest gaming software technology has generally always made it's debut on pc. Certain games like what you mentioned, wow, can single handily carry pc gaming. Then you have your STEAMS, your direct 2 drives, etc. The software companies whom develop your console have generally always started making games in the PC mod community.

If you want to talk about the argument, then tell me how playing MW2 is a superior experience on the console... most people would start babbling about there 100" projection screen and there fluffy couch, somehow you've failed to do much more than talk about how important you are irl.

You argument is falling on deaf ears because nowhere for 3 pages has anyone argued that PC gaming is inferior for FPS gaming. And you have yet to give me a good reason why PC gaming isn't dead. Of course WOW will succeed, but one massively popular game for a system is not "carrying" it at all. It's one game in a sea of crap. Bragging about technology is useless without the games to distribute on them. Don't get me wrong, I always have Steam running, but there is absolutely nothing out there I'd buy. Left 4 Dead is the only game this year I've had any interest at all in playing. It's a pathetic community when Counter Strike is still in the top 10 in sales on Steam charts, consistently.

And what is it with retards having to reply twice to the same post? How hard is it to complete a thought in one setting? And for fracks sake, that is the worst looking youtube channel screen i've ever seen. link to a video directly if you want me to watch it. I can't look at something that horrific for very long. I'll be damned if I subscribe to that.

"any game is better when more people are playing it"

This is true. People are still playing RTCW...more people than are playing the new wolfenstein on pc. According to captain console this makes rtcw or pc gamers somehow lame....I don't really see how this is a bad thing. I dont' see the correlation between a game being bad because people have loved playing for almost 10 years. I guess all those old car collectors, or collectors of anything are totally nooblar lamezorzs.

PC FPS' exclusives.... hrm. The 3 I mentioned earlier....Arma 2, Killing Floor, and Crysis.  Arma 2 has more controls than a flight sim. I don't know how they could possibly put that on a console. This last year I've played the following games on pc: CODWAW, Company of Heroes (3 expansions), L4D, Killing Floor, Unreal 3, Call of Juarez, Red Orchestra, HL2 Synergy Coop. I own and still need to play Fallout 3, and Dawn of War 40k....there's a genre that consoles don't fair to well on...RTS. L4D and CODWAW have an infinite amount more of content on pc...and it was all free...

This doesn't mean I don't play the crap out of my console....you'll notice practically all of my machinima vids are console games.

I figured you of all people would appreciate an ancient game. Except Goldeneye was much better than Crysis.

So does Goldeneye not count, or what? You got to brag about an old game. Why can't I?

Just like old times...clams getting his ducks in a row for the ban....

I wouldn't say I'm a fan of any college. I watched the ku championship game...guess that makes me a fanboy. btw, since when is attending a college a prerequisite for being a fan of any college? That's a pretty elitist attitude for someone so accustomed to fail.  :nono:

you used to talk ku smack, i guess i just figured you were a fan since you were sucking their teet 5 years ago before you stalked me over here.

and no, attending a college is not a prereq for being a fan of said college.  no one said it was.  and i bet you're a huge yankee's fan, new england patriots fan, and whatever other bandwagon you can ride on fan as well.  like most ku fans, you didn't go there, but it sure is fun to pick a winner to root for huh?!   :woohoo:

You confuse me with iokain. I talked crap only to Spuddy at clanv regarding ku v Missouri. I used to watch chiefs games, and I always pick the chiefs when I play madden.  :D  I don't know if you thought of this or not, but it's kinda funny that the guy whom sold out PC gaming to mainstream console games is preaching to me about riding the bandwagon... Also not sure if you noticed that you called ku a bunch of winners in a round about way...

Also, when you have an obvious animosity towards ku, and you say somebody is a typical fan of ku because they didn't attend school there, it's an understatement to say there's a negative connotation associated with being a fan, and NOT attending the school. So once again, in a round about way, you did in fact say you had to go to school to be a fan.

Mr. ewx24: I just looked up that quadro card you mentioned. You're right, that is a expensive card! I like to maintain a little forum etiquette...so, I concede that you say own a computer that costs 10x as much as mine. Does it outperform it in games???    Unfortunately I think this might also make apparent your trend to seem to pay more, for less.....

I can't believe you guys are arguing over this dumb topic.  Let me break it down for you in how I see it:

-  FPS on PC used to be huge and the only thing people played (see Counterstrike, Tribes, and Unreal Tourny, all of which I played ruthlessly).
-  FPS has made it's way to the console and is now a gold mine due to little kids (see Halo)
-  Do hardcore FPS players on PC still exist? Yes, and in big numbers.  Developers have steered way from the PC due to bittorrent and copyrights.  Why spend money making a game if everyone can get it for free? It's hard to copy and distribute console games and parents will buy their kids Halo whenever they scream.

The fact is that the studios still want to cater to the PC gamers but are tired of losing money.  The studios have wised up financially and realized that the there is more money in console gaming and that the only thing people use computers for anymore is World of Warcraft and porn.

I am an xbox360 owner and I approve this message.

This is such a massive level of horse sh*t it can't even be explained with words.  That just isn't true.  People do pirate games, but the reason certain games don't sell well is because they just aren't very good.

The suck factor is indded a factor, but other than too much emphasis on piracy, I thought he pretty much nailed 1.) simplified development. I imagine testing is a lot easier when you only have to worry about one set of hardware as opposed to the million different computer configurations you have to jack with on PC. 2.) Nickel and Dime factor: COD on PC cost $49 up front, all additional content free. Same game on console costs $59 new, and after all the content downloads the games prolly getting close to $100. This isn't counting themes and all the other random junk people buy.  3.) Console audience is much larger. 4.) Piracy, although piracy isn't THAT much more difficult to do on a console...  All those factors equals big $$$ returns for developers.

Once dedicated boxes hit consoles and they develop a pinpoint accurate aiming system....the only thing left to give into will be the wallet rape.

gg yourself :). Where we started was mine making points on the topic which evolved into an argument of: "you posted twice in a row nooblar", or "your site hurts my eyes stupid face", or your contribution. HE'S A ku FAN KILL HIM. I really don't think you dispute any of my comments on PC gaming's superiority for certain genre's like FPS, and we're in some agreement about the health of pc gaming.
