Wow...they are covering a lot of action this year. Loved the awkward moment at the end. It was like Sean didn't realize he standing right behind him. lols

LOL Sean is nearly as crazy as balloon dad.  His social awkwardness is definitely entertaining. He must have an enormous trust fund.  I think his dad got rich making IMAX films and now Sean spends his life trying to make one movie.

Definitely a lot more action this year.  Twistex team is based here in Denver.  Good thing the stopped filming with "welp we missed another one" Josh Wurman.

Josh had to help with the Government project Vortex 2, i'm pretty sure. I always liked it when those two got into it. I guess i just like seeing Sean get pissed.

I'm pretty sure that's correct about Josh. It was funny watching Reid and his team pwn Josh and Sean every episode though with a lap top and a gps.

Sean just needs to follow Reed everywhere. I'm sure Reed wouldn't like that though.

I also find it hilarious Reed ALWAYS over exaggerates everything. "We went through one back there!!"
You were freaking 50 feet away(still awesome though).

Love that show, The Weather Channel has Tornado Road as will which my have the biggest prick of a storm chaser on it and gives us a bad name. Best Tornado related TV show since the twister sisters on WE.

Reed needs to settle down a bit this year, his new notoriety has made him a little over the top.  I literally had to LOL when he screamed HELP HELP HELP over the radio, only to have the other crew come driving up behind him saying, "uh, what's up timmer?", and he's all, "oh, uh, nothin, just getting ready to roll again".   He's trying to sensationalize something that needs no help so STFU Tim'zer and stop stealing Sean's time or he's going to kill and bury you body like he did Josh.

I almost thought that part was edited. It made NO sense whatsoever.

Yup, dude was really trying to create drama where none is needed.  I would hope they tell him to cease that crap.  I like his intensity, but even then you can tell by his cohorts that he's sensationalizing the situations, they certainly are not so worked up at the situation like he is.

LOL Chittick is just along for the ride in the back seat.

Yeah Wurman was on Vortex 2.  I'm sure they'll show him at the Wyoming Tornado cuz Reed was there too.

Anyone watch last night?? They are really playing up the "tension" between Reed and Sean. Sean acted high it seemed. Also am enjoying the third team they are following, not sure of their names...Tim? They had a normalcy to the show.

Tim Samaras. I haven't seen last night's episode yet.

I'm watching last night's episode right now. Sean is acting like a pi$$y little baby. It's not Reed's fault that Sean's team sucks.

Tension! Tension! Tension! Reed vs. Sean, Sean vs. Reed, Josh vs. Sean, Sean vs. Josh, Josh vs. Reed.....Geez! Can't we all get along? People's lives are on the line here.

Just a heads up - If you go to the Storm Chasers website through the Discovery Channel's website you can get little previews of what every episode for the rest of the season is going to be about. Lets just say it's going to get real violent starting next week and last through the rest of the season.

don't forget Joel vs. Reed. I loved it last night when Joel put Reed in his place. "Talk louder, it makes you more right"
Chris's awkwardness in the back was also awesome...poor guy.
Also, noticed Joel wasn't driving in next week's episode  :ohno: :ohno:

i'm not a huge fan of this drama sh*t, but when the storm season wasn't as good as some years, Discovery has to come up with something.

Also thought the Sean announcing puppy thing at the meeting was awesome. He really knows how to get under Josh's skin.

I get the Discovery Channel newsletter. I signed up for it because it tells you when new stuff comes on and I wanted to know when Storm Chasers started.

Anyways.....I got one today that has never before seen footage of chases. One is of Reed talking about his most intense chase ever. "The only time he thought he was going to lose his life". It's coming up later this season. It takes place in Aurora, Nebraska and it's the one when the side window crashes in on his face. Apparently there's a medic that follows them around on every chase named "Bobo" that will be featured prominently in the episode. I know nobody else does but I kinda like Reed. He's kind of a badass that doesn't care what people think of him.

Yeah. That Aurora tornado was crazy. Saw all the videos when it happened. Pretty scary when you get hit by the outer part of a tornado like that. Still think he exaggerates too much though.

Reed is just another example of big head syndrom, he gets some attention from the cameras and turns into its whore.   Not convinced Joel is working him over with a clear mind, but love it none the less.   LOL during the "well you can always ride with someone else" sceen, dude in the back was literally looking for a hole in the floorboard to crawl out.

And is anyone more of a whimpy little schoolgirl that thinks they are way more important and popular than Josh?  Didn't think so.  Respect his work, but he's a huge vag.

Sounds like it's about to heat up outside the windows so maybe the drama queens will stfu for awhile.

I don't blame Josh for wanting that info and I don't know why Reed was such a dick about it. Back in the day people were mounting marine radars on cars to get radar data, problem was these unregulated radars were fracking with Josh's mobile radar and some the NWS radars. Unlicensed radars are illegal and closely regulated because of this. Josh did not want Reed not to do it he just wanted to make sure Reed was not going to frack with his multi-million dollar research project.

yeah i totally understand why Josh acted that way. Just wish Reed woulda explained he didn't know the frequency at that time. (maybe he did, and they edited it out, i dunno). The show just wants conflict this year due to the lack of storms.

It's certainly possible that Reed didn't get the proper FCC license for his radar and didn't want to admit it to anyone.

I'm glad Josh is back on the show, even though he's a big prick and misses tons of storms.  He seems to be the only person out there doing "real" science.

Ah, gotcha, thanks.

I agree Josh the one doing the serious work, but most everyone is limited by budget, getting new substantiated data is out of the realm of most except Josh.   I'm just not a big fan of his personality and the air with which he interacts with others.  And for Christ's sake, I realize it's pretty hit and miss but for all the equipment, vehicles, and support staff available he sure can miss 'em.

I'm still not sure WTH was going on between Reed and Joel, that was just weird and didn't strike me as "acting".

I'll have to check out the message board sometime.

Anyone out in the Hays area here?

I didn't find last night's episode too exciting but next week it'll start to pick up. Here are synapses of the final 3 episodes of the season:

Teams TIV and TWISTEX team face off against a huge rain-wrapped monster tornado. Meanwhile, Reed launches a remote control plane to drop data-probes right into a tornado, a feat never achieved in the tornado research community. But remote control isn't enough for Reed as he punches right into an erratic EF2 tornado, only to find himself surrounded by powerful vortices and no time to get out of their way.

Wyoming sets the stage for an epic tornado showdown. Sean Casey's meteorology scouts finally put him in position for the IMAX shot of a lifetime and this time he hits a home run. Josh Wurman's Vortex 2 science team makes history, achieving the most complete tornado life cycle data ever recorded.

On the last chase of the season, Reed and Tim have one last chance to achieve their ultimate goals, but the Nebraska storms won't give up their secrets without a fight. Tim and Reed intercept multiple tornadoes, trying to capture inside-a-twister radar data. But when a twister intensifies into a monster wedge right on top of Reed's armored research vehicle, Mother Nature shows who really dominates in Tornado Alley.

I had a dream last night that they were all at my house giving me a tour of their vehicles and stuff. They were in the area getting ready for a chase. Sean and I were leaving my house to go have a look at the TIV (they were close to having to leave) when we came out and saw the police having to tow it because it was illegally parked. They had to leave right away for the chase so that was kind of a bummer.

Don't think Sean is done, he made reference to getting $270k in funding if he could just get something on film and he did.  Those last two were fantastic TV.   Though ole Timmer's crew were going to mutiny once they saw their own blood, definitely some soul searching going on under the caps.  Think they bought the whole "I'll never put you in harms way again" bit, pfffftttt, yeah right.  Dudes the Steve Irwin of 'nado chasing, definitely wants to die on film for his fans.

Supposedly Sean said on facebook he will be back, fwiw. I imagine he gets a nice check from Discovery as well. Plus he can always make a second movie.

I thought the edited the episode a little weird. They made Josh look like an idiot who missed the big storm. Then at the end they were like "by the way, The vortex team was on this storm all along." I miss Josh and his arrogance.

I can't imagine the film he got could possibly be enough for an IMAX film but who knows?  Disc Channel probably just needed to at least see something out of him for more waiting and expectations.

That was a bit strange now that you mention it, though I think Josh was late to the party and only made it by finally accepting he was wrong on which one to roll with.  I think he's a bit caught up in trying to find the best storm for the day in one that nobody else likes, and it's repeatedly biting him in the ass.   So far it appears IMO that there are chasers with limited data kicking the crap out of Josh and all of his for some years now.

Strange first post, but awesome name. Sean has been filming tornadoes for 10 years now I'm sure he's got enough film for a at least a 90 minute film

Dammit I missed Ep 7 cuz I wasn't paying attention to my DVR.  I can say that Josh was def tracking the Goshen tornado because I watched the whole thing on the Weather Channel as it was happening.

I think Reed's car would have been fine if they had fixed the stupid lexan windows.  He shouldn't be relying on a motor to get those up.

However, after that thing turned into an EF-4, no car would have survived it.  They could have ended up a mile away if they were in that at the wrong time.

Glad im not the only one who watched that on the weather channel. It was awesome tv. It's not something i talk about with the bros ya know?

It was ironic the time he really needed the lexan, it didn't work. Or maybe it wasnt working the whole time, and they never mentioned it, i dunno.

Also, Josh wasn't the main guy making all the decisions on what storms to follow. He was one of Vortex 2's top guys, but they had to vote and decide where to chase. Obviously he was reluctant to go to the WY storm, cuz he knew how bad it looked when Sean go out there first.

During the first week of Vortex 2 TWC had a crew following them around doing live remotes. They ran non stop on live TV the tornado that hit Sean.

Pretty sure they had a guy following them throughout the whole thing and this was towards the end of the Vortex 2 study, but not sure.

They pretty much showed it from before it became a tornado to when it roped out. Also Greg Forbes, my hero, was analyzing the radar and video the whole time.
