Who the frack are we recruiting?
Starting in late November after OB took the job, there were like 6 legit dual threat guys by my count on the list that we recruited and of course struck out swinging on last year.
Terrance Cain
A.J. Graham
Denard Robinson
Tyrik Rollison
Raymond Cotton
Angelo Pease
We obviously have already thrown in the proverbial towel on Cam. So, seriously, who the eff else are we targeting and when the eff are we going to see these names pop up?????
Thanks in advance for the serious responses.

We threw in the Power towell!

Allegedly. I consider anyone that doesn't make it on campus as "striking out", though.

I think that is just is rating by users. Not really a good indicator as I think Tate Snyder is pushing four stars thanks to the tards.

Yes, dax, you're correct. Pease was a Hutch placement and is a 2011 recommit for us.
As for additional QBs in this class, I don't know that we'll take another high school QB in addition to Cosh but could be wrong.
JUCO options include: Cam Newton (wouldn't count him out yet), Dominique Blackman, and Dominique Davis out of Fort Scott.

Agreed. Looks badass and has one intangible Cosh doesn't posess ;).
Plus, OU is looking at him and if I understand BMW, the brilliant football mind, post's correctly that means he's a high level recruit that if we sign will be a "steal" form them.

Ive seen the kid play a couple of times, he's a nice athlete, but a very, very raw qb project. I wouldn't mind having him on the roster as an athlete. I just figure that, if he's playing qb for us, than either he's playing qb for us at an early stage in his career, :ohno: or we are still unable to sign an actual big time qb 3 or 4 years down the road.

If Harper's arm is healthy, he is a decent recruit. 4 * guy who started a few games at Oregon during his true freshman year? Plus, the dude has this entire year to learn the system and work on fundamentals.

I don't disagree with you. I just get frustrated seeing us lose recruiting battles for players in our own state. I hope CH does really want to play QB and gets his accuracy and vision of the field to par so we can have some success next year.

They've already switched Harper to WR. If he's our QB it's because the primary and backup plans failed (no idea what those are)

Not a good sign when you have no idea what the primary and backup plans are. I guess we're just betting the farm on Sammy? And what's the deal with Cosh? Why the hell did we even bother signing a spread option guy? Feel kinda bad for the kid. I guess, he can just transfer to wherever his dad ends up after we can his sorry ass.

In my scouring the area for duel threat QBs, I came across this guy...
http://rivals.yahoo.com/kansasstate/football/recruiting/player-Dominique-Davis-102702
I got to wondering why we weren't in on a QB of an in-state C.C. that is having a really impressive season. So I decided to look up the guy's stats on the year. Here they are...
http://www.kjccc.org/football/09/stats/09ftscott/scombined_6.html
As you can see, he's really done nothing special. His running numbers aren't at all impressive and his passing stats are okay at best. My question is why the he!! is this guy rated at 3*. Is it just because he's on a good team?

Why do you continue to bag on a guy that did nothing but put up big numbers as a junior and is shattering Maryland state high school passing records this season? At the very least, the guy will be a solid backup QB for us for years to come.
Cosh's Junior years stats:
Passing: 293/449 65.3% completed 3892 yds 56 TDs 12 Ints
Rushing: 66 carries 194 yards
-
Those number of Cosh's are part of the numerous state passing records he set last year at Arundel High. He set a new MD Career TD passing record last Fri night after 19 games. Still maybe 8 games to go. Was 16 of 19 for Seven TDs in the first 14 1/2 minutes of the game last Fri. Hits his receiver going full speed in the hands.

Could someone summarize this article of Newton? tia

Never said I don't think the kid is a good qb. His numbers are staggering, no doubt about that. It's just that we don't run a spread offense, or even a pass happy offense. It just seems like he would have been better off going to Kentucky, or some other school that likes to throw 50 times a game.

JTKSU,
Maybe I can paraphrase for you so every one can understand how you feel about young Cosh. Cosh reminds me of Chad May and for the love of Bill Snyder I can't imagine why he ever brought Chad May to Manhattan. If Cosh would just look at what Bill did to hurt Chad May's career he would not come to KSU.
-
Talked to someone that has seen a lot of Dominque Davis. Sounds to me like he's an ok player and an ok prospect. Would certainly be an upgrade over what we have but isn't going to be a standout QB in the big 12. This person thinks he could be a good player at a midmajor like East Carolina who apparently is recruiting him the hardest so far.
IMO If we end up going after him hard it means we've missed on our top juco guys Newton, Blackman etc. I did notice that his best game last year was against Cosh's Maryland defense.
-

2005 (Sr.) - 756 8 - - 3,343 41 5
2004 (Jr.) 76 350 5 296 195 3,150 29 8
I pulled the above stats from Rivals database...not sure why they don't have completion info...but they are Todd Reesing's stats. But they did say this in a mid-season article
Through five games, he's completed 75 percent of his passes and thrown for 1,325 yards and 20 touchdowns. Probably the most impressive stat though is that he's not thrown an interception in 110 passing attempts.
Clearly, Cosh put up much better numbers as a junior. However, I will NEVER, and I mean NEVER frackING EVER believe that Maryland football is even a shadow of Texas 4A football in a big Metro area.
The best thing that can be said for Cosh is that Skip Holtz and Rich Brooks wanted him.....as a depth. uk has another 3* QB in the 2010 class, a 3* and a 4* in the 2009 class. E. Carolina has three freshman QB's on the roster this year, and another QB in the 2010 class.

It cuts both ways, though, Pete. Maryland has fewer defensive athletes for Cosh to go up against, but he also has fewer athletes to throw to, hand-off to, and block for him.
Bottomline, typically when you see a guy succeeding like that at the HS level, it's rare they come to college and don't do the same.
Also, even though ECU and uk are his only offers, he was getting looks from some major DI programs before he committed.
-
I think Cosh is a great pickup and I mean it. Glad he chose us. He can clearly sling it and will be a nice guy to put out there if we are down by a couple of scores late in a game.
I do not think he is the answer to get back to winning the north (with this system). And that's what we are playing for.

Agree, as well. I'm not expecting the guy to come in and light up the Big XII or even play next season, but, as you stated in so many words, it's important for us to have guys like this on the roster.
Cincinnati lost their potential Heisman trophy candidate QB against USF and still won. OU is beating Texas now with their backup in. It just shows how valuable depth, particularly with respect to the most important position on the field, is to a team's long-term success.

Hard to question taking Cosh when he's better then anything we have on the current roster. When you have the QB situation that KSU has and you have a chance at a kid like Cosh then you gladly take him. But at the same time you don't land a kid like him and think all your problems are over. We clearly need to keep recruiting QB's and land a guy that can come in and make a difference right away.

so why are we basically screwed for getting Newton?
Why is Harper not gonna play QB anymore? if he isn't then why does he do pre-game with the QB's?

Well, that depends if you are one of those that think he is just a pocket passer and can't run the option or otherwise get down the field.
Last night (game rained out Fri) he was the leading rusher for Arundel. Ran for 40 some yards more than their highly touted running back Blackwell on the same number of carries. Averaged 5.6 yards per carry. He can make tacklers miss.
None were scrambles (never seen that happen because he gets the ball out so quickly) or sneaks. All designed plays.
Oh, and he threw for another 5 TDs before being pulled in the early part of the 4th qtr. Tough night, he usually gets that many in the first half. But, the receivers kept dropping balls. Not sure if it was the COLD or that he was throwing too hard, or a combination.
He was only 22 of 34 (65%) for 245 yds.
-
we should probably offer smith center's runningback (no idea who it is) because he is probably putting up mind blowing rushing yards.

Dear Mrs Cosh: It's not that we don't think that your son can't play the game, it's just think that Chris's style of play is not necessarily the same as Snyd's. He (Cosh) will be a very welcome part of the team. I just hope he never takes a meaningful snap for the Cats. Also- your husband really sucks. Any way you can get him to quit and stop bringing Vic down? I'LL hang up and listen off the air!!

I kinda like Cosh as a coach :dunno:
I thought Cosh was one of Snyd's old man buddies that assisted with the downfall of the program that occurred after all of Snyd's good, young assistants left? At least that seemed to be the prevalent feeling around before the aTm beating...
Well, he wasn't there very long (Just the two sucky seasons!). Plus, he didn't suckle at the teet as long as some coughmichaelsmithcough. Plus, he's been DC at 3 other BCS programs. I dunno, he's not Brent V. but he's not Tibesar. Like zacker said though, he needs to recruit someone not named Cosh at some point.

What are Collin Klein's prospect of ever playing QB for the Cats? I know he took snaps last week. He seems like he might have the prototypical Snyd's QB skill set (other than he's white). No one has mentioned him since he plays slot and special teams, but I don't see why that would keep him from competing for the position in the future.
I think Kass is forever a pass rushing DL, I know nothing of S. Lamur, and know we have one more year of Coffman. Plus there's Pease and BillyCosh (and Harper). At the beginning of the thread I was worried we didn't have any QBs on scholly next year other than Coffman and was all :curse:, then I realized it was a preemptive meltdown and there's actually about 5. Would like to have a guy that was Newton dreamy and head over heels the best, but there are warm bodies on the roster :blindfold:
P.S.
Sorry to get the thread back on track
