Title: So, is it cool with NCAA for me to "kinda sell" a car to a player? IDEA!
Post by: Pete on October 08, 2009, 11:21:27 AM
I'd like to start "taking care" of some of our athletes at KSU, and I had an idea.

Would it be OK with the NCAA if I just drew up a little "Bill of Sale" between let's say Jake Pullen and I on my Toyota, but then never actually transfer ownership.  In a way, Jake could kinda be the owner...I mean he'd get to drive it and stuff, but he'd never have to pay property taxes.  That could really help Jake out.  I'd imagine that the property taxes on my Toyota may amount to a few hundred bucks.

It would be a HUGE benefit to Jake for me to set this up so that he doesn't have to pay property taxes but still gets to drive the car around, and loan it to other players and stuff.

Seems like a great way to help the team out, doesn't it?

Made me think: does this have any similarity to the Frank Murphy car situation?  I mean, I know it wasn't some former NFL Cat that "sold" it to him, but still.

It may indeed.

Does anyone have any friends in the KSU compliance department?  If so, can you send them my scenario above and see if this is cool with KSU?

This reminds me...When i worked at Wally World, I had to the opportunity to talk with Pullen about buying a T-Mobile phone. It was a little too pricey for him. But if i woulda know the NCAA is ok with it, I woulda just set him up right there on the spot.

Here Pullen, Enjoy the phone. Call me ANY time.  :kstatriot:

not really, we just flat out gave him money.  although we were praised by the NCAA for handling of it.

Murphy, the top prospect out of junior college last year, accepted $200 in cash before enrolling at Kansas State and another $3,200 after he enrolled to buy a used BMW.

A booster solicited the $3,200 from nine other boosters in amounts ranging from $200 to $700. The violations would have gone undetected, Slatton said, unless a booster not involved hadn't contacted university officials.

I just realized I'm prolly making more in car payments on my Civic than that smelly freak Pollard is on his 1997 Tahoe he gave to Tyshon/Morris   What a broke ass loser.

We really should.  I've seen Jake's car and no one has done this for him I can assure you.

Pete, you would also need to pay Jake's insurance on the car in case of late night accidents.

I am going to propose another scenario.

Pete, being a fundraising genius that he is, passes the hat here at KSUFANS.com (similar to fly over "Fire Ron" banner).  We buy a car, something nice and sensible with DVD palyers and a good GPS, and "sell" it to Cam Newton.  By "sell" I mean we would tell everyone he bought it, but we would still own and pay for it.  It would be registered in the name of KSUFANS, we would pay insurance and property tax, but he would drive it, loan it out to whomever and do whatever he wanted with it.  He did, in fact, "buy" it from us afterall.

We could even stick a KSUFANS.com bumper sticker on it.  This should clear the NCAA's.  Someone fax this in and let's start car shopping!

why don't we get a booster to sell them a struggling business, then this genius athlete can work it during the summer get it turned around and sell it for a tidy profit before they go back to school, because they obviously won't have time to run it during the school year.
