Our D-line blows. Huge holes for their RB all night, and I can't recall a single time their crappy QB was even remotely pressured by our DL without a blitz. Not one.
Can we really expect Harold alone to turn an atrocity into a strength? I think it's more likely we vastly overestimated this group's potential before the season started.
Alas.

Why didn't we blitz more? Just sit back and get ran over and picked apart? doesn't make sense. how did they win in rocky top?

The group that played tonight is quite a bit different than what we expected before the season started. I think most everybody knew what had once been seen as a strength would actually be a weakness after the injuries and defections had occurred.

Weren't most people considering the group of Valentine, Fitzgerald, Calvin, and Harold when calling it a strength? Harold is the only one missing from the group that sucked out there tonight, no?

strength is a relative term...
-
Come on. This is not a surprise.
-
Agree. Daniel Calvin is 4 stars of sh**

Why it was in quotes, bro. It was touted as a strength coming into the season. Totally not making that up.

We went with Fitz and Sekona at the DEs with Guidry and Calvin at the DTs. I think most of us (at least I did) expected Harold and Childs at DE with Fitz and Calvin or Stewert at the DTs. So the line-up is quite a bit different than expected. And the guy talking about strength being relative was dead on. I don't think anyone expected those guys to dominate the league by any means, but that unit was once thought be one of the stronger units on the KSU team.

I think with Harold we are a very thin strength at dline. W/o we lose to lala and suck all year.
-
Side note: Eric Childs is god-awful.

Yeah, he is, but I assumed he would be a more viable option than someone like a Sekona. At least Childs has had some fairly decent games at that position. Sekona was terrible at LB and now he's terrible and undersized at DE.

Thank god for our dece. secondary.

tough nite no doubt, but you saw no improvment?

We've had crap at d-line for 5 years now. Its so gd frustrating that we can't find 2 or 3 fatties who are hard to move out of the box and 2 or 3 ends who can stand the OTs up and get around them on occasion.
-
Ron Prince recruited D-linemen for his super-special scary smart defense, the foundations of which can be found in Virgina, which is 3-0 as we speak ... if you put your losses before your wins, that is.
-
The D-line wasn't good but all their running yards were pretty much off of strech plays to the outside. The LB's and safeties are as much to blame as anyone. Pass rush is an issue didn't get much pressure at all and we only have one sack this season. UCLA has a good OL better then anything we'll see in the North this year but we need to get some pressure.
I thought Guidry played a good game people give him flack but he's a good player who'll keep getting better. Disapointed in Fitzgerald he needs to show up more. Getting a healthy Harold will help a lot he's probably our best d-lineman and he'll be replacing a guy who has was a LB less then a month ago and plays like it. Probably the biggest disapointment is Eric Childs 5th year senior returning starter getting beat out by a guy who was a LB less then a month ago. Another guy who I thought played pretty good was Antonio Felder. We need to get him on the field more he should start over Sekona.

it's the LB's mostly. they just cannot get there. houlik as to dive to the gap he's supposed to be at in order to make it look like he was in a position to make a play. our safeties get there but can't make the tackle. we're incredibly slow. guidry was average at best. childs is not a disappointment. he's been dogsh*t for years now. i've never understood how people thought he'd be good, at all, he's never shown it. ever.

Our DL and our defense as a whole are way better than last year, but there is still room for improvement. Had Ron Prince been our coach yesterday, we would have given up atleast 35 points imo.

LOL, no. They are ridiculously inexperienced.

But we would have scored 30.
And how long till Prince stops being our f*cking measuring stick for Snyder?

I've asked this question several times, yet never seem to get an answer. Maybe the billboards shouldn't say "The Hall of Fame Can Wait," they should say "Accountability can wait." :dunno:

Chris Johnson
Mario Fatafehi
Nyle Wyren
Tim Colston
Darren Howard
Monty Biesel
Thomas Houchin
(sigh)

well, if snyder wins three conference games (which I expect out of him) he'll have already surpassed prince.

Defence did not lose the game yesterday. Obs offence did. This is like reverse Josh Freeman blame

Who said the D lost the game?
-
The whole thread is bitching about the defence. I don't understand why.

When we did blitz it seemed like UCLA called the right play to combat it, like a roll out away from the rush. Either way, more blitzing probably doesn't change the outcome of this game. They ran the ball down our throats - even though the announcers on FSN acted as if our run D was good.
-
Lamark Brown! Never thought I'd say this but we may need to look his way a little more.

So we only get to bitch about one thing at a time?

we need to focus 100% of our energy on bitching about offense. Can't let synder off the hook. Vic is doing a great job with his group of garbage.

No, dude, it's ok to spread the wealth. Our EMAW army is big enough now to handle the load, and growing every day.
CONSTANT VIGILANCE.
