Title: Firefox vs Internet Explorer
Post by: PowercatPat on September 13, 2009, 11:34:07 AM
So I have IE, and keep hearing that Firefox is so much better. I have an hp laptop with windows vista. Should I switch to Firefox, why or why not?

just download it.  You can unistall if you don't like.  I switched a while ago.  Supposed to be safer too.

Firefox is just better.  Ad block plus is pretty much the icing on the cake

firefox spell checks everything.

so does chrome.  It's why my evening and weekend posts don't contain the horrendous errors my weekday 7-4 posts do.

Is it as enjoyable as FFox?

I like it.  It doesn't have all of the add ons yet though.  Both good.

Chrome 4.0 beta is the fastest browser available, but I can't stand it personally

bad GUI, lack of addons, etc.

I'm using Chrome. If you're on the dev channel, you can unlock themes and extensions. There is an adblock service for it. It uses adblock's servers as well. As for the GUI, I have found it to be a lot better than the alternatives. It's a lot more minimal, which I love. The status bar is better. The tab placement is better. A single search/address bar is better. All imo, obviously.

Either way, it's a crape ton faster.

i know we're all on computers and stuff when we type here. but the computer related convos kinda freak me out. i have a crap computer w/ crap IE that i still use and it seems just fine. would love to start a thread where we all talk about automobile tires this way.

Left IE behind months ago. FF head and shoulders better. Also use Chrome, and Safari if in a jovial mood, at times. How about those kuhmo Ecsta tires, Daris? Nice tread and a decent price.

It's OK to be left out every once in a while.

I use FF and IE. Firefox works better for this site. I'm too stubborn to give up IE just yet. Although i'm getting closer. IE's back button pisses me off. When I get Back, i want it to fracking go back, not have to hit it twice. And some sites take forever to come up, while others are fast as hell. Just little sh*t that will push me to FF.

I just can't bring myself to switch to Chrome and leave my add-ons behind.

I used to have a handful of add ons but some were slow to update, some bogged down firefox even more, etc. It was just too bloated. i can open chrome and have a fully loaded home screen probably 10 times in the time it takes to load firefox with all the addons just once. If they can figure out a way to slim FF down, I'd consider switching back.

Just discovered they don't have Chrome for Mac yet, so, moot point for me I guess.

I was just going to start a new thread, but this will work.

Firefox users: Which add-ons do you guys use/love? I have Adblock and a download helper. Any others worth the time?

Also, does adjusting the pipeline settings in about:blank help anymore? I know it used to back when it first came out.

Download Statusbar.  Also, depending on what sites you visit you might like NoScript (blocks all JavaScript).  It can be a pain because so many sites use JavaScript so you often have to enable it on every site, but you may like it - makes browsing much faster

Download Statusbar seems to be pretty cool. I don't mess around too much on firefox but this site works so much better with it. Love the youtube converter  It makes sending videos to co-workers so much easier.
