I'll start: Hastings video drop off box in chipotle parking lot.
-
ohhhhhh, good thread. Can't think of any but will enjoy reading.
-
Tennis courts built for MHS-East Campus. JFC, MHK. JFC!!
-
Leaving the "Art Deco" remnants of the old bridge in to town.
-
Closing two elementary schools, trying to sell one then remembering that they couldn't sell it because the city owned the land, then having to re-open one like two years later because of completely unforeseen enrollment increases.
-
People actually voting for Kites as being America's greatest college(?) sports bar, on some random obscure website, and then being really excited that they won their make up contest that only they participated in.
Is this along the lines of this thread? I find the drop box pretty convenient so I'm not sure if I'm correctly making fun of Manhattan.

Aggie Villa luxury condominiums, WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF THE BILL!
-
How about those little exercise stations sprinkled throughout CICO? WTF!?
-
The stoplight at the intersection of 4th St. and Houston always infuriated me. I think they finally recently took it down, though.
-

Beautiful.
icatmember, did you not find the drop box ridic bizarre?
-
That sand volleyball court out at Wildcat Creek? SRSLY?
-
Poyntz is a weird spelling for a street.
I find Johnny Kaw weird.

Yeah it's bizarre, but also really convenient.

I know, I'm going to open a bar in Aggieville that is expensive, crappy and will cater to underage girls. I will also be closed 90% of the time for remodeling. I think I will also name this bar after my dog and install cement floors with drains everywhere so he can sh1t and pee everywhere.
-
The Manhattan Zoo (really we have zoo? seems strange for a city for our size) has an incredibly old grizzly bear who lives on a crapty concrete slab, but he can't be moved to a nicer area, because he's so used to his crap life, that anything remotely nicer would cause him to die immediately.
Oh MHK

That one shady hotel on Ft Riley Blvd that advertises color tv.
Many years ago when Garth Brooks had his second concert in town, my parents decided they wanted to go to the show and get a room somewhere. Jeffy tried to find one everywhere, but the only thing he could get was the westwood. I think I might have stayed up a little later and drove back to Abilene than stay there, but stay they did. Said it had mirrors on the ceiling.

But, in the event that said bar gets over run by the Bushwackers crowd, you can just close again. Remodel some more and open back up with a smaller bar that has craptier service

Have a coworker who about got shot behind Westwood. True Story. :ohno:

The invisible speed bumps on all the side streets. WTF!!???!! Also, the fact that some intersections have stop signs, while others have yield signs, while others have no signs at all.

 Have always wondered about the Westwood. Place obviously seems like a complete dump, but there are always cars there when I drive by.

30mph speed limit on Claflin, GMAFB. Everyone goes 40 on it anyway. Bump that sh*t up.

this is the winner. i'll try to think of some other ones though.

huh? Hastings is less than a mile away from that.

Residential/business area :dunno: seems like about the right speed. Many other places where they could bump up the speed don't think this is the one.

I would say 35, IMO. Nobody goes 30 in that stretch.

The 3rd St/Tuttle Creek Blvd/Bluemont clusterfrank (especially before they built the light on Leavenworth)
The low speed limit on Anderson all the way out to almost Scenic Dr.
Only 2 ways across the river, and one of them only goes into the state park. Took me years how to figure out how to get to some of those areas over there.
14 Subways but only one Chipotle

Moving the Purple Pig from it's old elite location to Scoreboards

Anyone remember they used to have go karts out by the airport but they sucked because they all went the same exact speed and the track was a joke.
I'd also have to add the Linear Trail, that thing is terrible.

bad go karts are better than no go karts which is where we're at now. also, linear trail seems pretty decent.

yeah, linear park is pretty great.

yeah the go karts were fun but it just needed a few improvements also the indoor arcade area was also turrible. oh also the laser tag thing in the mall that was kinda fun while it lasted.
linear trail is just too jumbled around town imo and a lot of it is pretty boring.
kinda hard to find things wrong w/ manhattan imo.
EDIT: I know getting rid of the dollar theater in the westloop area and replacing it w/ that cosmetology school.

getting rid of both aggieville movie theaters was kind of a bummer too. :frown:

If it wasn't for linear trail, I don't know where I woulda dumped the bodies.
I've never understood why Anderson/Bluemont isn't just Anderson or Bluemont.

It is like townie gold: "Oh, a good steak place? You should try Little Apple. Its in Westloop. You're going to need to hop on Bluemont. Keep going straight for awhile and it will turn in to Anderson. . . I know, I know. Now, you'll see a Sonic  and Walgreens  on your left and then Westloop on your right. Turn in to Westloop and you can't miss it on your right."

Moving the Purple Pig from it's old elite location to Scoreboards
Completely agree with this. I cried a little when Scoreboard closed and the Pig Moved.
-
The huge ass hump when you go across any intersection in residential areas between the mall and campus. Especially east of campus.

Use to love Juliette(brick road) back during my days at WW the bus driver would go fast and if you sat in the back you would get tossed up in the air.

little know manhattan fact #1. juliette street is named after the first person to be murdered in manhattan. :nerd:
-
Another &@#%ing WTF. Why the hell is Juliette still brick? That road is a piece of crap, but I swear to god I've heard old people talk about how it's all historic and crap. Doesn't mean it's nice to drive on, which is kinda the point of having a road.

Look for the microwave tower that you can see from the Bill. Then look for the hill next to it.
Only approach to it is from the south.

-How secluded Manhattan Country Club is is pretty WTF. I've lived here for the past four years and still haven't seen any sign of it, even though I know where it's at.
-The stretch of highway 24 from Tuttle Creek to McCall has some pretty gross establishments.
-Can't quite figure out the water tower thing behind Purple Wave with "1-800-221-CATS" on it.
-
02 Dairy Queen :curse: the drive through line gets so long it hangs out into the street AND blocks in the cars that are parked in the lot so the non-lazy asses can't even leave until the line clears out.
...and why weren't we able to support an Amigos!?

I hope he's not knocking Little Grill. Great joint.
Roundabouts in general have been mentioned, but by far the worst is the one by Grand Mere.
And I'd throw 4 Olives in there. A really expensive restaurant in a strip mall type deal? By Food 4 Less?

Yes. The roundabout is ridiculously tight. Did they not have any more room to build one??
Overall though, I am in favor of most roundabouts. The ones in JC and on Fort Riley work quite well.

Nah, not knocking Little Grill. I've never been there, but I've heard nothing but good reviews. I was going more for the whole rank hotel and K-Mart type places along that road. On an unrelated note, has anyone ever been to the Goodnow House? It's a historical monument and all, I think.

Speaking of that area on Claflin, wtf Goodnow Park? You can just have a vacant field, put a GD cloud (i think) statue in it, and call it a park. 80% of the time, the grass is up to your knees.
Also, Tuttle Creek? What's up with that?

No doubt, it is pretty hard to find. You can drive all around that neighborhood and never find the actual entrance. I've been there numerous times and still have trouble finding it.

Not a bad part of town anyway. Food places seem to have a hard time in JC. Hope it does well. Also, thanks for doing the leg work.

Yeah, If you're on the correct street it's pretty straightforward. (Literally) I just always have trouble remembering which road it's on, so I just assume I can find it from any road in the neighborhood.

Rocky Ford Fishing Area....
1) Hard to get too
2) Overall a nice setup, but WTF is with the trashyness of the place. Last time i went there, It smelled absolutely horrible. Dead fish laying everywhere, beer cans floating. Would be a nice place if it was kept up.

You can literally cross the street from downtown and find yourself in the mall parking lot. Do you propose they simply put a mall on campus, as that is really the center of town?

Believe you are wrong, its on Thurston. Manhattan story is that a guy built that mack daddy as a playhouse for his daughther years ago.

Those are front yards. They just happen to be on hills.

Nope. It's next to them. It goes straight to a dead end on Leavenworth. There's a plaque in the middle of it.

kind of a wtf thing. spent a few hours inside the place a year or so ago.

That is also the location of the most frightening alley in the world. During lunch hour and after the high school let's out pedestrians were in peril as people would race/be morons going down that roller coaster on to Delaware. Tons of near miss t-bones for motorists minding their own biz on Delaware, caught by surprise by acne faced demons flying down from Sunset.

There is a park-like area or maybe it is really a park between where Leavenworth ends in a circle above and where Leavenworth "T" 's with Delaware Street below. There are steps on either side of this area which would be Leavenworth street if it went down the hill.
I used to live at Triangle Fraternity (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/55/TriangleDeltaT.png/30px-TriangleDeltaT.png) (221 N. Delaware) which was right next to this area when I was in school. The house, itself, is now in private ownership.

What is that odd out of place building on the south side of poyntz. Not sure of the other street, but.... A little east of 17th & Poyntz, not quite to Cap Fed Bank. Was built a couple years ago, and just sticks out like a sore thumb tryin to be all futuristicky and stuff.
-
The ninth grade center! :runaway:
back off. that building is architecturally beautiful. A real treat to spend a year as a 14/15 year old 9th grader.
I always got lost when I had to go to the bottom floor, which was unfortunate because that's where my locker was.

The little grill? :runaway: :runaway:
I don't think that's what he means. At least I hope not. Best Jerk i've had. :lick:
Nah, not knocking Little Grill. I've never been there, but I've heard nothing but good reviews. I was going more for the whole rank hotel and K-Mart type places along that road. On an unrelated note, has anyone ever been to the Goodnow House? It's a historical monument and all, I think.
Speaking of that area on Claflin, wtf Goodnow Park? You can just have a vacant field, put a GD cloud (i think) statue in it, and call it a park. 80% of the time, the grass is up to your knees.
Also, Tuttle Creek? What's up with that?
Pioneer Park, bro. Goodnow Park is off of Thurston by the water treatment plant.

If you're talking about the green building across from the MAC... I think it's an architecture firm or something.
My two WTF's are the stone table paths behind the zoo/high school and the random water tower thing on the corner of Evergreen Ave and Sunset by the high school.

You sure you're not talking about north of Poyntz? Can't really think of any weird buildings on the south side of Poyntz between 17th and Cap Fed.

That water tower is actually a water tower. It is quite old and obviously no longer in use. I remember when I lived down the street about 12 years ago some of the neighbors came around with a petition to save the tower which the city wanted torn down (not really sure why as you can't really do anything else with that little parcel of land). I couldn't sign because I wasn't a registered voter in Riley Co.

No south side. And I think he means right next to cap fed. What waks said is right...I think it is an architecture firm with and extremely awkward looking building

I lived across the street from it for an entire year and never once had the desire to walk across the street and look at it. OMG Its an old house!

The dead fish are a result of when it floods due to increased outlet from tuttle. When the water goes down Gar get stuck on the rocks and stink to high hell.
Hell of a place to fish if you know what time to go and how to fish it. Thats where I got the fish below.
