Title: Baseball

America's Past Time. Good stuff.

Any personal stories of you playing ball? Any of you went to college to play ball?

Did not play in college.  Once in legion ball our coach told our pitcher to throw at a guy none of us liked.  So, he throws behind him twice and it's pretty apparent he's going to/has been trying to hit him.  I'm playing first and both teams are gearing up to fight.  The ump and second base are the only officials there and have no idea how to handle the situation.  Anyway, our pitcher finally hits him and his bench hits the mound before he does.  Silly SW KS white kid brawl ensues and we thought it was pretty bigtime.  Coach acted super mad but later bought us beers.  Actually, now that I think about it, this story could probably be told by any SW KS person.

loved playing baseball. loved it. didn't even mind practice. have watched it since preschool when i would go to my grandmas after preschool and preceed to eat peanut butter and honey (that had been stored in the refrigerator) sandwiches then watch an entire cubs game by myself. had to be about 4 yrs old. good enough to play on some good traveling teams growing up but not really that great and def not even remotely close to good enough to play college. playing it is just insanely fun though. my fav sport to play.

I got a black eye trying to field a ground ball in like 3rd grade. The ball took a bad hop and nailed my right below the eye.

Play for my high school, might go division II, but will probably end up in manhattan (not very much scholly money for div. II). Not a big fan of watching it, but playing is a blast. I like it because it's as much a mental game as it is a physical game. I play the CF so anytime i get to go full out and rob somebody is my favorite play (don't mean to brag but made a pretty amazing game winning catch last year running into the fence)

senior year of highschool a bunch of us who weren't quite good enough to be on the highschool team or just didn't want to got our own city league team and had a college friend (1 yr older) be our coach. there was a kid who spent summers in mhk that i didn't like. i pitched a decent amount, so when we played his team i went gunning for him. fastball not fast enough to hit him as he was able to duck and dodge and get out of the way every time. totally obvious though and during the at bat he mentions this to the son of local sports writer who happened to be the home plate ump. son does nothing. daris walks him and then preceeds to try and hit him on multiple pickoff attempts to first base, finally got him. did nothing but throw at his head and try and hit him every time he got up over multiple games. partied w/ the guy a few times at ksucats and all was forgiven.

I made the local All-Star traveling team once.  The coaches wanted to keep 15 players.  16 tried out.  There were 2 of us they wanted to cut, but they decided to let both of us stay on.

In fifth grade little league I pretty much sucked and they stuck me in left field picking daisies...

but one game out of the blue coach put me on second base, probably because he was a huge dick and wanted to prove to everyone how bad I was....

well, late in the game a hot line drive screamed right at me and I caught it in self defense and then I tagged the runner as he was headed back to the bag. It ended the inning and we held on for the win.

then I went back to sucking in left field.

Getting in fights is overrated and painful.  I would recommend against it.  Good looking guys like us need to keep ourselves clean for the good of humanity.

Where are you looking to play?  You good enough for KSU?  Would kind of suck to go to a garbage school just to play ball imo.  Friend of mine went to Hays two years playing baseball and transfered to KSU.  He tried out for the EMAW team but didn't make it.

Haven't played actual baseball since I was about 12.  Could never hit the fast pitch.  In 4 years I think I got 6 hits.  My theory was pitchers were so crappy at that age that they're more likely to walk you than anything.  I probably led the league in walks.

Haven't played since I was like 10 or 11, and have never cared to watch it on tv. Probably the only sporting event that is regularly televised that I can't even stand to watch if I'm at the game (have been to kc to watch the royals a few times and saw the cubs @ wrigley once). At one Royals game, one of the TB Devil Rays' players tossed me a ball during warm ups (lots of other kids at the fence hoping for it...I was bigger than them), got it autographed by some random Royal whose name I never figured out, as autographs are never legible. Definitely nobody worth mentioning, I'm sure.

One summer had a black eye and a big bruise on my stomach from getting hit by baseballs (black eye came when it slid out of my glove and popped up into my face while tossing the ball with my dad, bruise from coach failing at pitching and hitting me). The last year I played was the only league I was in where the kids were old/good enough to be allowed to pitch. I wasn't the pitcher, but one game when we were losing (I think we played 4 or 5 innings) and went out to finish the last inning (it was the bottom of the inning but we played through even though it was already decided) they put me in just to let me have a go at it. I totally struck out the 3 dudes on the other team like a beast, despite the loss. I pitched a lot more the next few games but couldn't replicate the same awesomeness.

1st team All-state performer a couple years ago in the state of Kansas. Played in the KABC all-state game, 2nd amongst outfielders in voting. Hit over .450 on they year and broke our schools single season record for doubles in the year and broke the school record for slugging % in a single year. Recruited by several colleges both Juco's and some NCAA and NAIA schools. Decided not to play to attend K-State which never recruited me. Love baseball with a passion.

Oh god no. For Kansas 4A Baseball I'm pretty good, but I could never hack it at K-State. Some JUCO's are interested, might try that. A buddy of mine went to a JUCO to play ball for a year and got drafted in the 5th round by the Dodgers.

That is some EMAW.  I prolly would have went with the free college and had EMAW on the side.

Do play the outfield. I wouldn't necessarily say power hitting though. Similar stroke to Billy Butler. Hit a lot to the opposite field and to the gaps. Pretty decent at getting on base.

Hit a game winning inside the park Grand Slam to right field in 4th grade.

A girl was playing right and the kid on first was fat and slow and I spiked him sliding into home.  Probably didn't even go in the books as an at bat but it did the trick.

It was sweet.

The picture of this great team now hangs in its sponsor's store.  If you like gifts that are all country'ie you can see it.

Generally teams with 4 consecutive championships don't win a 5th on a fluke, but whatevs.

Was the fast, center field type.  Hit a few homers, but mostly a gap hitter. (gap hitter is a funny term)  One time I was on deck and they walked one of our power dudes to pitch to me with the bases loaded.  They thought, hey lets pitch to the fast guy.  Big mistake, first pitch I smashed a homer to center field.  Felt pretty awesome.
