Title: i just killed a bat...
Post by: purplebybirth on August 11, 2009, 10:01:24 PM
a f*cking bat woke me up in the middle of last night. i freaked out, shut my bedroom door and slept in the living room. didn't really know what to do about it. it came back at about 9 tonight, and flew right into my living room. i was prepared this time. i freaked out again, but got out a broom and sent it to bat heaven with a albert pujols type swing.

feel kinda bad for killing it, but wtf, it was in my territory, and scared the absolute shat out of me last night (can you imagine being woken up by a bat doing laps five feet above your head?) ...

anybody had a similar experience?

Yes, had bat problem in my hometown for a long time, whenever I would go to my parents house during the summer I had to watch out for bats.  I was eventually bitten overnight and got rabies shots.  Still have 1 more shot (this Thursday).

Just an FYI - bat bites can be VERY small, and if un-vaccinated it has a near 99% mortality rate.

Which part?  We had so many bats you could hit the ceiling and hear them making noises at night.  Killed 15-20 after taking the sheeting off of the roof.

Yeah, I had a bat in my house one time.  I caught that SOB and bit his head clean off, Ozzy style.  Then I got rabies and had like a 1% chance of living, but I walked it off.  Now I'm some sort of king or god to the bats in the neighborhood and I'm immune to rabies.  No lie.

We get bats in our office from time to time. The best thing you can do for them is catch them, then throw them outside during the brightest part of the day...they love it.

I knew a few guys in the elite Architecture program at KSU.  Every once in a while we would stumble home from the bars and stop by their studio at odd hours of the night while they were working on a project to make fun of them for lack of a social life.  One of the studios in Seaton actually had a bat living in it, they treated it like their pet.

bats aren't a problem for anyone.  They eat tons of bugs (which are a problem).

next time just wait til the bat lands on something flat, take a big 32 oz cup and put it over bat. take piece of paper/cardboard and put it between 32 oz cup and flat surface then walk outside and move the cardboard away from the bat.

Seaton had a few bats for sure. One flew into an IA studio and all the girls came running out. They managed to scare the bat back into the hallway. A guy in my studio fracking backhands it as it flew by. It was laying on the floor lifeless. One of the chicks was gonna get a box to take it outside, but instead pulls a Chris Farly and thought it was dead. The mother fracker flew up and landed in her hair. She ran away and the bat followed her outside into the courtyard and flew away.

Then she got bit and had a 1% chance of living.

Crashed at a buddy's frat house one night.  At 3am I regained consciousness when I heard about 10 guys running around the halls with tennis rackets.  Next morning, a dead bat was pinned to the bulletin board, with a cigarette shoved in its mouth.

I was at the Ozarks cruising in a pontoon late at night years ago and what felt like a pile of wet leaves slapped the side of my neck.  I grabbed it to take a look and it started squealing so I threw it and it hit one of my friends in the face.  He threw it in the lake so it could take a dip after that.

Mosquitoes transmit more deadly pathogens than any animal on the planet.  Millions of people die every year from diseases carried by mosquitoes.

There is also 10 f*cking billion mosquitoes everywhere you go.  A very very very very low number of people in the US even get bitten by bats each year.

Not only is rabies deadly, but (like I said earlier) if you get it without a vaccination it has one of the highest mortality rates.

Almost ALL of the people who die of things like malaria are in Africa due to a number of reasons.

That's exactly my point.  Too many damn mosquitoes, so it doesn't make much sense to kill the animals which eat mosquitoes.  Especially considering the extremely low probably of you ever being bitten by a bat.

Great movie.

Mike: "I got an idea, okay? I'll open the fridge, you hit the lights. Bats are attracted to light. It'll fly in the fridge, I close the door, end of story." Steve: "That's moths, you dumb-ass, not bats." Mike: "Oh, yeah. Moths."
