Anyone have tips/tricks for overcoming these bastards?
Have pretty much had since Jr. yr of HS FB (2003)... My job requires me to be on my feet, and I like to be pretty active, so its hard to give them long periods of rest.

wow, that's pretty devastating. probably just pop some ibuprofen, or get surgery.

Question: do you run frequently?
If the answer is yes, then...
1. Stretch your friggin shin muscles before you run
2. Land somewhere between the ball of your foot/arch area with your foot.
3. Don't run on hard surfaces, run on grass or that rubber track material that HS tracks use.

1. Go to an orthopedist and take the shoes you work in and run in frequently. Make sure they are good for you.
2. Lose weight if you're a fatty.
3. Stop being a FP.

2. Lose weight if you're a fatty. 6'0" 185. No problem there.
3. Stop being a FP. I've had them for 7 years, if I was a FP I'd have bitched about this a long time ago. It's bothered my sleep even the past few years
Question: do you run frequently? Not really, but when I do run...
If the answer is yes, then...
1. Stretch your friggin shin muscles before you run I stretch. Don't know if I don't do the right ones for my shins, but I never run w/o stretching.
2. Land somewhere between the ball of your foot/arch area with your foot. Seems like I probably land more towards the ball, maybe even more on my toes...
3. Don't run on hard surfaces, run on grass or that rubber track material that HS tracks use. Don't run much, try to stay off hard surfaces. Most of my running in just in the sports I play.
I guess it probably developed from running in HS sports (played FB, BB, and Golf), but never went away when activity decreased dramatically. Now if I walk around all day, stand throughout all EMAW events, etc. they get pretty bad. I realize I probably should just see a specialty doctor, but wondered if anyone had success stories... (Thanks guys :ugh:)

Take a two liter bottle and fill it with water...
place the bottle in between your big toe and your second toe. While sitting down.. slowly lift the bottle towards the ceiling and hold for one second and slowly drop the bottle back down.
This will strengthen your the muscles that run along your shins and will reduce the pain.
Ice, rest, stretching will aleviate the pain. You won't have shin splints if you keep running.

hate shin splints, basically the reason i didn't go back out for CC my soph year and forced me out of bball early my senior year...hate them!! :curse:

SHIN SPLINTS !! :chainsaw: :curse: :curse:
I hate those damn things!! Suffered through my Jr. and Sr. years of football with them. They still occasionally return when I do a lot of walking on pavement.
