So, we all have an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or two. Thought this might be a good forum to list and maybe get some help with our brothers/sisters who might deal with the same issues? Here are a couple of mine;
1) Always have to grab the 3rd cup (in the sleeve of cups) when getting a fountain drink or coffee at a convenience store because the first two are obviously tainted. I also do this at a salad bar when grabbing a plate or plastic container. :yuck: (ftp://:yuck:)
2) I'm a floss & brush, floss & brush, teeth guy. Can't go to bed unless I floss twice and brush twice.
3) I use three squares of TP to wipe myself. Can't be two because that is just not enough and four or more freaks me out. I also will pre rip the TP into a stack of ten. Don't usually go over that and when I do, it's not a good day. :flush: (ftp://:flush:)

I don't eat food if I don't know how long it's been out for.
-
Locked Doors. I check like 8 times. House and car.
-
alarm clock. Have 2 on phone and clock radio. Check each one 3 times. each is set for 1 minute later than the other
-
Correcting poor spelling in things that it doesn't matter, like message board posts.
-
Cleanliness. Just with my own sh*t though. When I had a room mate it didn't bother me if he was dirty, just as long as my stuff stayed clean and in order.
Dishes. I can't stand having anything sitting in my sink.
My jeans have to be folded and they have to be folded with the back pocket showing.
Books and dvds have to be organized in some type of order.
I always have to have a surplus of soap stored in the shower, and different scents must be on different shelves. :curse:

checking message boards over and over and over again.

Same here. Drives me nuts.
-
Too many. :blindfold:

I have to have a window down in the car, esp in the winter. Can't stand seeing fog on the windows knowing thats other peoples breath sticking to the windows. No matter how cold it is I must have some sort of fresh air flow in the car directly from the outside.
-
Washing my hands.
-
I always leave my computer on but turn off my monitor instead of waiting for sleep mode if I'm not using it.
I have like 5 pillows on my bed, and they go in a certain order. Also, I use two comforters and I always have the same one on top (KSU comforter :kstatriot:)
Always check to make sure my cell phone is on silent when I leave the house. I hate when it rings in public :dunno:
-
I too set two alarm clocks. One on my phone (which is set to go off 2 minutes before my alarm clock....which gives me time to disarm the alarm clock because it is extremely annoying). But I don't see this as OCD, but more of an issue of "If i don't wake up, I'll get fired...or miss an exam or an appointment etc."
-
You're right Pike I wouldn't call that OCD. OCD is checking the alarms several times after setting them to make sure they are right like I always do.

Same here! However, this is probably pretty common.

Yep, I do this too. Like, after I have been laying down for 10 minutes I get back up to check the alarm (set 2 on alarm clock, 1 on phone). I can see the little lights that say they are on, but I still have to check.
Also, sometimes I will be about 3 blocks from my house/car and go back to check if its locked.
And my OCD is progressing :ohno:
-
Always think I left something on or a door unlocked when I leave. Sometimes I will get halfway to work and bam, I freak out that I left the iron on or door unlocked. I never do FWIW, but still have to go back and check. :runaway:

Showering.

QFT. Why don't people just put that crap in the dishwasher when they're done with them? It's not like the DW isn't within arms reach of the sink or anything....
-
i'm like opposite ocd, i don't mind clutter, don't care about germs, don't care about locked doors, etc.
however i used to have the weirdest ocd when i was smaller. whenever i took a piss, i had to spit in the toilet, maybe a certain number of times even? i think i avoided 6.

Because not everyone takes the clean dishes out? And not everyone wants clean and dirty dishes in the dishwasher?

Same here! However, this is probably pretty common.
Whats wrong with your phone ringing in public? Makes me feel elite and popular to strangers when someone calls.

Actually, it makes other people wonder who the dumb f*ck is that didn't silent their phone.

I feel more elite when I pull my phone out without it ringing to check who's calling/texting, and people are like "Hey, he must be a busy guy! And he silences his phone to avoid annoying the hell out of everyone around him!"

Hate to break it to you but that's not what they're thinking.

Just put your phone on vibrate. Best of both worlds then.

When eating a sandwich/burger, have to make sure the meat is on the bottom piece of bread. If the cheese is on top, I will make sure before I bite that I turn it upside down. If the meat is in the middle of cheese, lettuce, onion, etc, I will rebuild the sandwich myself if need be.
-
I can never finish off a gallon of milk. I'm always freaked out that the little bit at the end is going to be sour and chunky like phicat's sister.....
-
I always eat fast food in the same order. fries then burger. if it is two burgers it is burger then fries then burger.
to be fair though that and most of the things mentioned here aren't really OCD traits. Just habits or mannerisims.
OCD is really sucky to have and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I don't have ocd, with the rituals, clicking, or touching things a certain number of times, but I do suffer from Pure-O as they call it on occasion. It is not fun at all, and I used to think I was going insane from time to time as it would get pretty bad.
Pure-O or the obsession part of OCD usually manifests itself in a passing thought(mother dropping her baby, the fact that you could run over someone with a car if you wanted to, etc..) many people realize these thing COULD happen. The problems arise from people who can't just let the thought pass and it eats away at them sometimes for months at a time if they don't get help.
For example, knives. we all know that knives are sharp and can hurt people. Anyone could reach into a cupboard take out a knife and hurt them selves or someone else. At one point in my life that thought crossed my mind. I didn't want to hurt anyone or myself. I would get sick that the thought had occured, I eventually developed a mild phobia of knives. Lost sleep etc. I didn't tell anyone because I didn't want anyone to think a was crazy or anything like that.
Finally one night (when I couldn't ) sleep because the obsession got so bad I looked my symptoms up on the internet. I read some very helpful, reassuring information. found that this is not uncommon and something like 1 in 4 people has at least a mild case. Many require anxiety drugs and/or therapy. I read a few ways to combat it. Immediatly told my family about it, and started doing my own remedies I had learned from the internet.
Luckily for me I've had few if any problems since. I didn't go to therapy or need any medication. I think just telling other people about it was the biggest thing, it seemed like a sickening weight was on my shoulders and was quite a private hell, but that lifted rather quickly for me.
I know I'm probably sounding a bit loony for just posting this, I just figured if anyone else suffered from the same symptoms it would help to know that you arent; the only one, it is pretty common, and you aren't crazy or dangerous to yourself or others.
Sorry for the long post...
Still :kstatriot:
