Feel bad for ku fans.  To pour out so much love for these two when they committed only to have them despise them in return.  A lot of ku fans with very hurt feelings right now.  Be nice to them.

Feel so sorry for ku fans.  Hang in there guys.  I can't even imagine how I would feel if a KSU recruit and his family completely trashed and humiliated my Cats like the Henrys and their dad (ku ALUM) are doing to their program right now.

God I hope they stay committed to uk.  Their dad sounds fantastic, can only imagine what he does/says when he actually gets to lowrents.

I can understand him wanting his kids to go to an elite basketball school like Kentucky though.

There's just not enough financial love coming out of the back rooms of the ku basketball offices right now for the Henry's and they're playing hardball.

I know.  Makes you really sit back and appreciate the overwhelming outpouring of EMAW from an elite level recruit and his family like Michael Beasley.  You just see a kid pour his heart and soul and EMAW into your school and get kind of spoiled by it and think that every elite level recruit is the same.

Not everybody is so lucky..............

I'm assuming 610 is "reporting" things that they know aren't true and then Carl will come on to "clear the air"....this is pretty much just a ploy to get listeners.  Kietz should counter with "today on BTL, Snyder's balls claim they aren't old".

Agreed . . . no doubt Dougie and the rest of the "Godfathers" are going to be asked to pony up more cash.  Is the entire Henry family moving to Lawrence if they do actually end up there??

Odds are under the guise of the parents being alums they'll end up with some cushy job, and I can even see a DOBO seat waiting for Carl as this plays out.   Probably a $600K plus house in the mix there somewhere.

They will use the CJ's signing bonus as a cover for paying Xavier to attend ku.  Even though he has likely spent it all.

Apparently, there's a 3:30 Henry family meeting. LJWorld will probably post something soon.

kusports poster who attended some luncheon the massa spoke at:

and Bill Self is PISSED OFF about that article in the Star. Opened his speech that he was in a really bad mood because of what was printed. Said that the article may have damaged the relationship with the Henry family and how it reflects negatively on ku when they had nothing to do with it. Wishes we'd at least "wait till you have em before you bash em." Interesting comments.

Damn, damn the press for printing the truth.

Carl Henry said his family would meet Tuesday night to discuss Xavier and C.J.'s future, the father told 610Sports radio station KCSP on Tuesday.

Carl told the station that it was still possible that one or both of his sons would attend Kentucky.

"We have a meeting set up tonight where we're going to sit down and talk about this whole deal," Carl told 610Sports.

Rivals.com has reported that Carl said Kansas coach Bill Self and assistant coach Danny Manning are headed to Oklahoma City, Okla.

In his interview with 610Sports, Carl said the reason for the family's frustration was a recent story in the Kansas City Star newspaper. According to Carl, the family members believed the story put them in a negative light.

So, seriously....you are a current ku player, or a non-Henry new recruit....

How are you feeling about these two chowder heads right now?  Christ, your HC and AC are on a plane bound for OKC to beg a couple of alleged one-and-doners to please come to ku.

Sure, it's Doug Compton's plane, and there is likely no depletion of ku athletic department resources over this escipade....but, you are busting your ass in on-campus workouts, slumming it at the Jayhawk Towers (complete craphole, btw), taking classes, and generally doing stuff with your summer that you'd rather not do...would you be fired up to play with these two?  :dunno:

The rumor is Carl is telling former ku buddies that he's pissed about the pay cut from Memphis to ku . . . no doubt tonight's meeting will be about ku closing the salary gap between them and what Calipari was/is offering at Memphis/Kentucky.

If only the oil slick these two schools will combine to create could be in some way refined and sold as gasoline.

Self off to OKC to recruit two players already committed to ku
| EMAIL | PRINT  | COMMENT  | SHARE
By Tully Corcoran
June 30, 2009 - 4:05pm

Bill Self is on a recruiting trip today. To Oklahoma City. To recruit Xavier and C.J. Henry, who already have signed grant-in-aid agreements with Kansas.

“If they’re supposed to be with us, they’ll end up being with us," Self told KCTV-5 Tuesday. "If they're not supposed to be, then they won’t.

"We’ll just kind of wait and see how it plays out. Hopefully it’s meant to be."

According to Rivals.com, Self and Danny Manning are headed to Oklahoma City for a Tuesday night meeting with the Henry family, including Carl Henry, the players' father who on Tuesday morning told 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City that his sons might again consider choosing Kentucky.

The players did not sign national letters of intent with ku and have not attended classes at ku, so they are not bound to the school.

Carl Henry said that Xavier wanted to play at Kentucky all along, but chose not to because his mother, Barbara Henry, didn't want to move to Kentucky.

"Now, all of this stuff has been said, his mom don't care where he goes," Carl Henry said. "So guess what? Kid might have a change of mind. That's what I'll tell coach Self."

The "stuff" Carl Henry referred to was a Sunday Kansas City Star story and subsequent reaction.

Carl admitted, though, that he hadn't spoken to his sons Tuesday and didn't know how they felt.

"I don't know what they're considering," he said. "When coach Self came down, my oldest son, C.J. said, 'No matter what, we're going to Kansas.' That's what he said. But a couple weeks ago, my youngest son (Xavier) tells me he wanted to go to Kentucky, that he's thinking about it."

According to Carl Henry, the family had a meeting planned for Tuesday afternoon to discuss their future.

Pffffffftttt.....

Hope this gets more play

Hoopster Stephenson headed to Cincy

"The last of the top 15 in the ESPNU top 100 of 2009, Stephenson (ranked No. 12) was originally slated to go to Kansas after being wooed by Maryland and his hometown St. John's, but the Brooklyn (N.Y.) Lincoln High guard lost out on the Kansas scholarship after Xavier Henry got out of his national letter of intent from Memphis to go to Kansas once John Calipari left Memphis for Kentucky. Ironically, Henry is reportedly waffling on that commitment and may now follow Calipari to Kentucky."

Self off to OKC to recruit two players already committed to ku

According to Carl Henry, the family had a meeting planned for Tuesday afternoon to discuss their future.

http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/06/30/henry-considering-playing-for-kentucky/#more-18626

Xavier Henry may wind up at Kentucky when all is said and done.

Henry, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Putnam City (OK) Putnam High, is having second thoughts about playing for Bill Self at Kansas and still could end up playing with friends for Kentucky coach John Calipari.

“If it wasn’t for his momma saying that ‘I would not go to Kentucky, I would not move down to Kentucky,’ Xavier would have been at Kentucky,’” Carl Henry told the Chris and Cowboy show on 610-AM in Kansas City. “He would have been at Kentucky. So Xavier says, ‘I’m going to go to Kansas.’ Even though that’s what he wanted to do is go to Kentucky, play under Coach Cal. That’s what he wanted to do. I expressed this to (Kansas) coach (Bill) Self. I told him.”
He added: “Kid might have a change of mind,” Carl Henry said. “That’s what I tell coach Self. If he has a change of mind, so what? So be it. He has a change of mind.”

Perhaps fearing the worst, Kansas coaches reached out to Brooklyn Lincoln guard Lance Stephenson within the last week.

But Stephenson has signed a financial aid agreement with Cincinnati of the Big East, a story first reported by SNY.tv on Tuesday.

Ironically, Kansas, which once had its choice of Stephenson or Henry, may now end up with neither.

Xavier Henry initially committed to Memphis to play with his older brother C.J., a walk-on who missed last year with an injury. He signed a Letter of Intent with Memphis and cannot sign a second one.

When Calipari left Memphis for Kentucky, several players followed him there, including former Memphis leans John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins and Memphis commit Darnell Dodson.
During the Jordan Brand Classic in New York in April, Cousins was vocal in trying to get both Henry and Wall to follow him to Kentucky. Wall eventually did.

Henry chose Kansas, where both his parents attended.
Carl told the radio station that Wall and Kentucky commit Daniel Orton continue to get in touch with Xavier about coming to Kentucky.

The father said that Xavier told him “a couple weeks ago” that he was interested in Kentucky and Carl said he called Calipari then.

“When my son told me that, I reached out one time,” Carl Henry said. “I called Coach Cal to see if he had a scholarship.”

Henry has not reported to summer school at Kansas, but his father said in a recent newspaper interview that his sons would be on campus in mid-August.

That same article in the Kansas City Star quoted Carl saying Xavier looked into possibly playing in Europe next year, but opted against it.

The article has apparently upset the Henry family and may contribute to them bolting Kansas.

Reports indicated Self and Kansas assistant Danny Manning were headed to Oklahoma Tuesday night to meet with the Henry family.

He was only in the Yankees farm system for one year (complete bust) before he was traded to Phillie, he was then picked up by the Yankees again as a free agent after Phillie's gave up on the kid (committed 57 errors), no doubt he was making the absolute minimum in Class A. When he was resigned by the Yankees he signed a minor league contact.

The Yankees are paying for tuition, but they aren't paying for anything else . . . a guy's gotta live, and no doubt ku and their "godfathers" are going to make sure he and his brother have plenty of cash money.

Bentard . . . you meltdown again, yet all you do is come over here and obsess over all things K-State, you spend hours on this board, you post thousands upon thousands of times, you have multiple accounts, you meltdown, cancel your account and your back again 12 minutes later.

It should be noted that players are only paid during the months they are playing.  I know tons of dudes that have played, or are currently playing minor league ball, and almost all of them have to work somewhere else during the off-season to make ends meet.

I don't know Ben . . . I know that's a huge conspiracy in Tardville.  Now I am never going to argue that the folks that have been running K-State athletics of recent note were smart people or they were probably smart people, but made a number of really bad decisions.   However, I'd like to think in this day and age that they were smart enough to understand that you don't need to entice recruits with money that has been funneled directly through the athletic department.   There's plenty of other ways to do that via 3rd parties.

It is a little funny though . . . Dalonte Hill is approaching 1 Decade of service in the role as a DIVISION ONE basketball assistant coach, and I am pretty sure that K-State looked at paying Dalonte Hill so much money as a way to keep an assistant coach with nearly TEN YEARS OF DIVISION ONE coaching experience and significant ties to recruiting channels in Manhattan.   In fact Dalonte Hill's total Division One experience is actually approaching 14 years.

Yes I can tell you the future is quite bleak for poor Tony. After seeing him play and sink 4 treys in one half, he then proceeded to use his 6'8 DerMarr Johnsonlike frame to post up a poor 6'3 guard on the opposing team. This guys is a real project I tell you.

This is easily fixable. Just clone Xavier, have Lew show him North Korea-esque brainwashing videos about the undeniable superiority of the University of Kansas over everything in the entire world and let the real brothers go to Kentucky. Everyone wins.

Now if uk and Kansas meet in the championship game, how would Xavier Clone have an advantage over Xavier Classic? Easy. Steroids. Nobody tests for those, and I mean LeBron probably does it

current cloning technologies are limited to birthed clones so you're going to have to wait about 19 years.

I heard about partially morphing an ostrich into a velociraptor, maybe that is the way to go

Feel so sorry for ku fans.  Hang in there guys.  I can't even imagine how I would feel if a KSU recruit and his family completely trashed and humiliated my Cats like the Henrys and their dad (ku ALUM) are doing to their program right now.

 :frown:

I know.  Makes you really sit back and appreciate the overwhelming outpouring of EMAW from an elite level recruit and his family like Michael Beasley.  You just see a kid pour his heart and soul and EMAW into your school and get kind of spoiled by it and think that every elite level recruit is the same.

Not everybody is so lucky..............

 elite outpouring ....very classy recruit!

Didn't phagnet have like 8 locked threads about it?  Maybe you should check there first.  Just an idea -- as a ukjr grad now, I realize those are hard to come by.

Personally, I for one am happy the Henry's are staying with ku... at the moment.  Its the best chance of some real excitement over on Mt. Oread.  I mean there is Sherron blowing up like a balloon, but he will most likely get his crap in line when it starts to matter.  Aldrich could maybe get run over by Jacques Crawford, but Crawford probably isn't behind a wheel much these days.

ku is gonna be real good, we all know that.  However, with the Henry's Reality Circus coming to town this is hope that it could be real fun season to watch.  Xa-vee-yay will have talent, but will he really be about the team? What about C.J.? Will he make waves while sitting on the bench behind Reed and Morningstar? How about the gratuitous camera shots of the Dad and Mom Henry in the stands that will be there through every game and every Xa-vee-yay moment? It could be real fun to watch.

I will hope for a real drama fireworks show, but also knowing, usually somehow ku always slimes through it unscathed.

Would def. improve the appearance of the building.  Kinda give it a circus tent-vibe.

Isn't it kinda funny that now ku's recruit is staying and the powercats have one jumping ship?  Strange turn of events, if you ask me.   :shy:

We don't pay our players under the table. Just our coaches.
