It's bound to happen. Some overhyped or underachieving player (or a player that never even makes it to campus) will be touted for future success and not live up to expectations. Here are some of the key guys that fit the description. Who else am I missing?
LB Marvin Simmons
LB Chris Patterson
QB Marc Dunn
DT Andrew Bulman
RB Daniel Davis
WR John Cooper
OL Ray Green (I think that's his name, the guy from Junction City)
CB Corey Reddick
DT Malcom Wooldridge (yes, he started at OG, but he was NOT good)
WR Danny Hogan (the video tricked us)
OL Matt Boss (maybe Prince had a hand in this?)
QB Nick Patton
RB Bubba Brown (no idea what's up with him now)
DE Jonathan Lewis
DT Steve Burch
DT Willie Williams
S Courtney Edmond
OL Scott Krehbiel
DT Tony Gillespie (unless we end up landing him from juco)
WR Jerome Janet
TE Trayvon McGee
OL Chris Boggas
WR Julius McMillian
-
DT Daniel Calvin (holding out hope he does something this year)
-
I would add Joe Hall. Very talented with loads of potential. Gifted athletically, especially considering his size. Had tons of potential to be a great player, but wasted it with laziness/trouble.
-
On a similar note, I was told a while ago that Vince Young was supposed to come to MHK but his mom got sick and he wanted to be closer to her. True?
-
O-Lineman Jesse Keaulana-Kamakea
O-Lineman Peni Holakeituai
-
Jerome Janet may be the biggest of them all.
Total hype coming out of HS.
Parade AA.

This is a fresh idea. (ftp://:rolleyes:)

Nick Patton
-
Josh Freeman. Dude sucked.

All i know that we came in 2nd in the running for VY. That seems to be the run for all awesome athletes and KSU. Still not sure if I buy it.

This thread is tired.
We should do an all couldn't, shouldn't, wouldn't team. A list of players who had no business seeing the field but got significant playing time. Exceptionally relevant for the past couple of years.
I'll get it started,
Daniel Gonzalez.

Who was the all weightroom guy who got pushed around by Fresno State's O-Line like a little rag doll?? Can't remember the dudes name.
-
I never felt that Marc Dunn ever was given a chance to succeed, he might have done well with an offense built to his strengths.
-
Frank Murphy.... had tremondous potential

The guy who would get so nervous he would throw up. I think his name was Cody Lee Smith.

I was pretty young when this was going on, but my dad loves telling me about this kid. Wasn't he supposed to be THE guy? And all he ever did was throw up...went on for years.

Can I vote for the coaching staff?

Yeah, you've pretty much got the story straight. He quit the team to go to the Mayo clinic without ever playing a down. A few years later, he shows up out of nowhere and joins the team again, says hes going to be the starter. same thing happened though, and he never played. A year or two later, I was having some problems with my stomach, and had to see a specialist. So I happen to say to the specialist "I wonder if I have the same problem as Cody Lee Smith" The doctor rolls his eyes and says "No I worked with him and his problem is all in his head" I was shocked that a doctor would say that, cause I thought that was a breach of client confidentiality.

I'll claim Boggas and Boss as my message board badges of honor.
could/woulda/shoulda been swimmin' in outlands. :frown:

Don't bring up Cody Lee Smith. :-[
Dude had major talent . . . major talent . . . but he had serious health problems, it took weeks at the Mayo Clinic to figure out.

David Damon doing his best to be Lawrence Phillips, what a tool.

On the Tomlinson thing, I have a story to tell, related to me by a former asst coach for KSU.
Apparently Tomlinson got in late on a flight from Texas. The first item of business when the recruits arrived was to have a meeting in the team room with HOFCBS. During this meeting Tomlinson fell asleep. The next morning, he was on a flight home. FWIW.

Stan Parrish didn't recruit Barry Sanders even after he tore it up out there at CICO park in his last HS game.
In his defense, Snyder didn't pass on Darren Sproles and they immediately recognized what they had when he showed up.

QB- Cody Lee Smith

hey hatter remember that time I told everyone on GP.com that Boss was going to be a bust and got ambushed. Good times
-
"Sweetness" (as in Walter Payton): All set to attend KSU and then illegally recruited away by Jackson State at the last minute. I read an article about this a while back but can't remember all the details now.
-
rivals sucks crap with juco recruiting. Boggas was just a lazy crap UT type player.

Remember the time on Gopo you had a HUGE sig with all the Olinemen and their photos and star rankings.
You were telling all the Husker fans about our BEEF on the Oline. :banghead: :powertard:
:hahano: :hahano: :hahano:
I blame you motherf***er :curse:

Here are some more:
DB Isaac Harvin--he allegedly ran a sub 4.2 40 and was supposed to be another great juco around the same time as Bishop, never showed
LB Ben Henderson--supposed to be a great juco LB in the 90s, never showed
RB Carlos Alsup--may have just been because of injuries

I don't believe it. Prove it.

Or the fact that he was behind Sproles in the depth charts.

RB Carlos Alsup--may have just been because of injuries
My P.E. teacher, former football coach, and head baseball coach at Winfield high school used to coach Alsup said "He had all the talent in the world, he isn't very smart though."
Just saying that's why he didn't play under Snyder, and why he played under prince.

Since when do you have to be smart to play football at a high level?
I always heard Michael Bishop wasn't too bright.

Street smart vs. Book smart? Alsup must not have been very football smart either.
-
So Alsup was as athletic as Michael Bishop, I don't think that's a fair comparison. However Bishop was football smart. Alsup not to much, said they had to write the hole numberings on his knuckles.
I thought of 2 other RBs
Leon Patton
