Title: Wichita Catbackers

Any ksufans.commers going?  It's not at the level of the SC Nut Fry, but it has been known to produce some good moments.

Trim's reports are the best in "the biz".  No matter what the event it is always an entertaining read.

Kind of disappointed in the lack of 'ta ksufans.commer presence.

This will be disappointing.  I'm drunk and tired.  No pics or videos.

Here's what I remember in roughly chronological order.

John Currie is either really weird-shaped or can't get his suit tailored right.  Remember that really tall/thin pic that came out when he first got hired and he's in the suit w/orange UT tie?  I thought that was just a bad or altered pic.  Nope, that's how he is in real life.  Get this guy a proper-fitting suit.

They sold plastic cups for $10 and then it was all-you-can-drink.  The cups are seemingly clear-ish plastic like every bar has but when they've recently had been in them, they turn purple.

Crowd there made me feel like I was in a real-life version of GPC.  Guess I was.  Couple of things overheard early on at my table from random 'tards:

Quote
See we had no athletic director and no president, so we couldn't get a big-name coach at the time, so Snyder decided to come back to help out.

Quote
I was reading about this Martin.  He's got an interesting background.  From Havana or Cuba or something.

J-Mart arrived and I got to talk to Frank a little.  He says Huggs swears there was nothing to the Huggins black eyes other than walking into the bathroom door.

Talked to Snyder who was surprisingly funny.  Pretended (I think) to not know who J-Mart was for a while.  Then feigned shock when he learned J-Mart goes to the same gym as I in that he couldn't believe J-Mart works out.  I mentioned J-Mart should do a PUP test but I don't think OB heard it.  Then Snyder gushed on both of us for doing Big Brothers program.

Nobody shied away from buyout or Wefald/Krause suck talk.  Catbacker guy Floyd told everyone to suck in the fresh air.

Schulz and Currie said the usual stuff.

Deb gets up there and says "about time we got some beauty up here."  She then goes into a really really really long story about her dream where she's in heaven or about to get in heaven and she takes Frank with her but Frank snubs Schulz, Currie and Snyder and then decides he'll go to hell but finds a Jayhawk Satan there and Frank doesn't want to be in that hell and then a muscular Snyder in a superman costume rescues Frank and flies him to heaven.  (Note: Deb did not explain why Jesus let her in heaven, you know, with the gay and all).  Just imagine the above story taking 40 minutes to tell.  While she was telling it, I went to get my 14th beer and the beer dude sees my nametag and says "Trim, can you get her to shut up."  I then walk by Frank and say "I like Scott City a lot better.  They wouldn't have let her ass in."  There was no disagreement.

Frank talked.  He didn't notice J-Mart had left to go interview Currie so he kept referencing him and pointing at the empty seat next to me without realizing there was no J-Mart there.  Caused all the people around my table to keep looking at me wondering who the &@#% I was.

Snyder talked about Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and other non-football stuff.  Referenced J-Mart and I as "2 young men he's spoken to earlier" in regards to mentoring.  Somehow talked for about 30 minutes not about football.

I'd forgotten how boring this thing was last time I was there until RP started roasting J-Mart.  Tonight sucked.  I think I'd like to either do stand-up in front of this same crowd because they laughed at anything or I'd like to start a rival KATPAK'R club in Wichita.  I'll try to do another report soon on something more interesting, maybe on a nap I take this weekend.

Just remembered, Snyder was the last speaker so as he was up there the event staff was trying to get things packed up.  Everyone could hear them in the back horsing around and dropping plates and silverware.  Lon Floyd stomped back there and shushed them.

yeah, snyder went to a lawrence catbackers thing a couple of years ago. said he was on his way to kansas city and it just worked out but he couldn't stay long. then went to talk forevvvvvvvver about non kstate athletics related stuff.

Excellent report, trim.

Sounds exactly like the KC Summerfest at the RITZ "Charles" for as long as I can remember.

Along with the annual 45 minute comedy routine, Deb's striking, androgynous two piece sweat suit always seems to add some panache to the production.  It's easy to see why our gals play so hard for her.  A real "ball coach".

OB really can preach a long winded mentoring sermon like no other and Frank's inspirationalis and good old fashioned sports talk always whips the catbackers into a summertime tizzy.

In the end, the tank is filled with EMAW and a lot of gin and tonic.

Remembered something else.  Currie was talking about him and Schulz competing to see who could get up and to work first, and in doing so mentioned they're living in the same condo complex and thus they see whose car is gone first.  Does this mean Wefald is refusing to GTFO of the president's house?  Would really cap this summer off if there was a standoff of sorts.

Was there, typical boring speeches.

While OB was talking and glassware was dropped right in front of him he said "Don't worry about it, I got guys that put it on the ground too!"

Frank has me excited about this year. :billypopcorn:

Maybe there will be pictures of Wefald in a robe and a shotgun yelling "Get off my lawn"  Police cars all around.  Maybe he will yell things like "It was my money and I will do what I want with it."   Or "I made this University what it is, I hired Bill Snyder.  We have lots of Rhodes, Truman, Maxwell Scholars.  It's because of me... Me I tell you!"

I'm seeing kind of a Young Guns II standoff with Krause and Epps upstairs in the Pres. house.

Went to Catbacker events prior to leaving KC . . .

Weefer probably got Mrs. Weefer filling sand bags and cleaning guns for the stand off as we speak.   Bob Krause is going to roll up any minute with several large satchels of something resembling grenade launchers outlining the cloth.  Epps is in back cheerleading the whole scene.

Quote from: tough guy Jon Wefald
