Title: Walker was supposed to be part of the Mayo to USC package

Hope Huggy played this straight!

Tim Floyd, who suddenly resigned as USC's coach on Tuesday, had his Faustian moment in the summer of 2006, when a southern California resident named Rodney Guillory called and asked, "How would you like to have the top two high school players in America come to USC?" The players Guillory was referring to were O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker, two powerfully built small forwards who grew up together in West Virginia and were playing for the same high school in Ohio.

Doubt it.  But I'm sure he played that one straighter than Self or Cal would.  Not a big deal.

There was absolutely nothing straight about the way Huggins played the NCAA.  While he was out of work, he recruited these guys to his own back pocket just waiting to land somewhere just in time for them to play their college ball.  Without recruiting restrictions placed on schools, Huggy was allowed to come and go as he pleased.  Call as much as he pleased.  I guess OJ Mayo wasn't impressed with Manhattan, Ks.  No matter what relationship Huggy cultivated with him over three or four years, it wasn't enough to lure him to the middle of nowhere.

Fantastic that Bill made the right decision and stayed clean.  What a saint of a person.  Great article!

I think you are correct.  If I remember correctly, it was Mayo trying to lure Beasley but Mom Beasy was having none of that.

We need to make a "summer of GRCOAT" documentary. Something like a PBS "frontline" thing.

This is not correct. Mayo wanted to come here. He called us on signing day asking for a NLI. Huggs did not send one. Sorry to burst your bubble.

How long before Mr. Guillory moves to Lawrence?

Bill Walker is about as honest of a guy there is.  Very impressed Bill.  VER-EE.

I love manhattan being referred to as the middle of nowhere by hawk fans, apparently the definition of "somewhere" is 55 minutes from the dead center of nowhere. They must not have globes.

No way. Definitely has to be Behind the Music style.

Such jealousy from fly-over country. It'll get worse. We'd better get used to it.
