Title: Cutting the DCA Ties, The Time Is Now
Post by: pissclams on June 08, 2009, 10:25:23 PM
The time has come that we cut all ties to the DCA and let Frank and 'Te $400k start showing what they can do in the recruiting arena without the crutch of a funnel of elite players all coming from one AAU team.  Why you ask?

a)
aau players will always just be "aau players"  we need division 1 team players, not a bunch of showboating selfish non-passing ball hogs.
b)
frank needs to show he can recruit outside of the DCA circuit.  we need to know exactly what cards this guy is holding and what he's capable of.  there's no reason to continue to let him recruit DCA guys and lean on that crutch.
c)this staff is too focused on eastern USA players, when they need to focus on kids from kansas - specifically Perry Elllis.
d)the DCA program has produced some solid players but none that were great.  what happens when we need studs to come in and play and we're stuck holding the DCA bag filled with aau guys?

So, KSUFansers, what say you?  Post your thoughts here and we can begin to organize a twitter campaign against Frank Martin's lame recruiting techniques.

Seriously. They're from Washington DC so how good can they be.

Kansas = more space for playing basketball = produces better players

Plus clent stewart came from the heartland (oklahoma). Way better player than any east coast show-off

Impose a two year ban on any DCA talent. Force 'Te and Martin to travel from farm to farm scouring these great plains for the real Heartland Heroes.

Give me a good solid kid that can knock down the 3 off the side of the barn everytime over some urban kid from DC.

No doubt K-State should continue to mine that basketball hotbed of Johnson County's Shawnee Mission, Blue Valley and Olathe Schools.

No doubt there's another Tyler Hughes out there somewhere.

IMO, they should just drop basketball scholarships all together.  Why not just build a team from open tryouts amoungst students already enrolled.  We want players who WANT to be here.  Not guys who just come for the free ride.  With 20,000 students on campus, (a foundamentally sound girl or two wouldn't hurt!) were bound to come up with 5 good basketball players.  It's just statistics right?

Lorie Kane could absolutely bomb it from the three point zone

Like the poster said, now is probably a good time to re-direct Coach Delonte Hill's efforts from recruiting to more of the coaching side of the ball.  The X's and O's department if you will.

Look, you could tell Michael Beasley was a heck of a basket ball player.  We all saw the youtube videos.  We were there for 84-75.  But, if we can get the same results from a wholesome hard working Kansan like Quintin Buchanan or Shawn Rhodes we just might be better off.  Let's be honest, those guys didn't exactly get the pick of the litter in the X's and O's department during the Asbury and Wooldridge era's.  Seems to me if we can start making basket ball players AND they also share our unique values it's pretty much the best of both worlds for our fans.  You don't teach Kansas values from a book.  You've either got them or you don't.

Also players who grow up in wide open spaces will grow to a larger size, much like how in Free Willy, Willy's fin curled up after living in a small tank.

Norton is garbage.  Think P-Burg has some legit D1 prospects though.

QFT.  DC is akin to a koi pond.  Those players will simply never achieve greatness because they live in a confined space.  No such problem for the kids coming from the great plains of Kansas.  Also, the local kids have to learn to play the game below the rim, so they have a more diverse game that isn't heavily (or even at all) reliant on dunks.  I would much rather have kids that are fundamentally sound, very much like Deb's great teams from recent history.

Now we just need an acronym for the greatest white small town Kansas class of all time or something like that.
GWSTKCOAT?  Catchy.

Aldrich.... projected as the #4 overall pick in the '10 NBA Draft.  SNOWCOAT.... shaming GRCOAT for at least another year.

Snowcoat with a little twist.  If i were creative enough to come up with a few extra words it could be something like GRTWSTKSCOAT.  The Great Western Kansas class of all time.
Not that I have anything wrong with Western Kansas, my wife is from there, but it's just not the hotbed of D1 basketball talent.  It could be if there were a few others to compliment Josh Reid, but I digress.

I was under the impression that Beaz was drafted #2 overall in 2008.  How does Aldrich sticking around for 3 years shame the GRCOAT?  Doesn't it just add fuel to the Massa-Self-turns lottery-picks into three year players fire?

After the financial package Aldrich and family got to stay at ku . . . he'll be able to buy a bigger TV.
