This weekend, right? Names? Heard anything JMart?
-
Donovine Stewart and Frank Williams are supposed to be there. Spradling and Mitchell you would have to assume. Ricky Scott also said he might be there. All I have heard so far...
-
It's sad we can't even get cook in for a visit. I had hope to land him or another DCA'er.

yeah - the names i know of are frank williams, nino williams, spradling and donivine stewart. I would assume that dillon starzl (sp?), steve carver and tony mitchell are there. Would be great if Ricky Scott was there. Also, would love it if Khyle Marshall, Darryl Traynham, Tim Hardaway Jr and Dwight Powell were attending. I hope JMart can come through and toss out a couple names that are new on the EMAW radar.
-
Is J-Mart still alive? I haven't heard from him for a long time.
-
Here's who reportedly made it +/- some names.
Nino Williams
Will Spradling
Tony Mitchell
Frank Williams
Darius Singleton
Clint McCullough
Reese Holliday
Donivine Stewart
AJ Spencer
Good to see Tony Mitchell is in fact not a figment of our imagination and actually was said to have been quite impressive.
MoKan, Brandon Bass, Team Texas, Pump and Run were all there.
The entire coaching staff + Greenawalt were all there.
Sounds like there was a scrimmage that included most of the newcomers. "Jamar and Judge looked good. Kelly looked GREAT. Henriquez was there but didn't play".

Singleton vid linked in the '11 thread. Seems to have a nice all around game from the video.

would be nice to have another 6'6" wing with a good outside shot. miss ya, 'ye.

I was very unimpressed with the MoKan Players, Nino, Frank, Clint they were all decent, I dont think they have the talent to play here though. Also very unimpressed with Will Spradling, I dont know why we offered him honestly. Tony Mitchell is a man, very athletic. The best player at the camp was KC Ross-Miller, that kid could flat out play. And I may of been mistakin but I think Cook was there because the coaches were talking about a big point guard match up in a scrimmage.

Good to hear Ross-Miller was there. Cook couldn't possibly have been there, as he was at the USA U-16 trials. Thanks for the report.

If you don't mind me asking, in what way were you unimpressed by Spradling? Did he make lots of mistakes (TO's, ill-advised shots, etc...), or just from an athletic standpoint. Because we already know he's not really athletic. Just curious.

I would bet any amount of money the "big point guard match-up" was Spradling vs Ross-Miller.
-
Of the MoKan bunch, I do think Frank Williams is a sleeper with some nice upside. He looked great in the Classic from the games I saw. He's got a pure jump shot with range and he looks like a legit 6-5. He is thin and I didn't see much in terms of remarkable athleticism, but I think he'll be one to watch.
Agreed on the reports about Spradling and was pretty underwhelmed for the most part. He's definitely a floor general, but I question his ability to create his own shot or if he has the athleticism for the Big XII. Looked like a more talented Brady Morningstar to me, but without the racist and violent tendencies. I know Kruger was after him pretty hard, so what the hell do I know.

Nino and Clint are both two or three years out of college, what do you expect from them. :jerkoff: And Will was better than Traynham, who is ranked in the top 150. I think a decent prospect with his length. He's not meant to come in and make an immediate impact. I think we offered him along with Mitchell to have a solid base to the class and build in with teams and coaches instead of grasping at straws (Gilbert, Buchi, Abdul (why is this guy still in Manhattan?) Irving) in the last few weeks to fill several spots.

The matchup wasnt Spradling and Miller, it was Miller and some 5'8 kid who was a good player.
Spradling isnt fast and has decent ball handling skills. He can shoot and make shots wide open but he can't create a shot. He is def not a kstate type point guard and i think we can find many pg out there better. Sorry if this is harsh, just my opinion.

Frank Williams didn't do much at the camp. He wasn't shooting the ball real well, and if we are looking for a pure shooter, I'm positive we could find many 6'6, 6'7 kids with better athletic ability. He is real skinny and weak as well, he needs to put on about 30 pounds to be a d1 prospect.

prolly donivine stewart. with will, i think he's a good player and i don't look upon the fact that he can't create his own shot as a really bad thing. he's gonna be one of those guys who just doesn't hurt us with the bball and doesn't throw away possessions. you know how JPull does something great and then does something bone-headed? I can't really see spradling doing too many bone-headed things.
-
I can already feel my dislike for Spradling growing and growing. Whenever they say a players has "it", "it" means nothing.

That's what you said about Aaron Scwartzendrubzuski, and that turned out just fine.

Ross-Miller committed to Kentucky as a Sophomore. He was pretty highly thought of at the time, but his stock seems to have dropped off some.

Pressey? :hope: :hope: :runaway: :excited:
Don't know what to say about Spradling. Maybe he just sucks. :dunno: He's stood out against much better competition than was at the elite camp though. Inconsistent?

I know. I have awesome evaluation skills. Much like Asbury.
"Josh is more skilled than Aaron," Asbury said. "Whether he brings the intangibles Aaron did, that's the question. The intangibles are what made Aaron Swartzendruber."

spradling reminds me of a slightly less athletic young lenny dykstra. Two Cents
-
What's with the obsession about having out of this world athletic talent. Give me a couple kids who shoot the ball and that can spread the defense out. I'm not saying field a squad of Milan all-stars.

it's going back up. he's been playing well this spring. seen some texas people comments that he's the best point in the state. really glad to hear he was at the camp.
-
I didn't see much in terms of remarkable athleticism.
that's an understatement. he's not d1 talent unless he can hit 40+% from 25 feet.
-
so not a single dca, just some dece texans and bunch of ks scrubs.
time to dump hill and underwood and bring in some real coaches. can't expect 6figga to fill the roster by himself.

Spradling sounds like the kind of point guard Frank really wants. Someone to set up the offense and find the open man. I don't think Clemente is really a typical Frank Martin guy, we'll take him if he's there but Frank likew point guards to be the set up man not the scorer. This is why he was so harsh on Pullen last year and somewhat this year, Pullen was trying to be a scorer and shooting when he should have been passing. Now that we may be getting some scorers in place we won't need our Point to score so much. Spradling seems like a solid ball handler and ball control guy.

hmmmmm....I have a very low bbiq but I don't think that is true.

Not at all the case. I think Spradling is a good floor general, but if Frank can get a more transitional running offense point guard, that is exactly what he is looking for. But Spradling is a local talent who is a leader if nothing else. Will be a fantastic reserve is nothing else. Pullen was getting yelled at for trying to dribble drive into a set defense and blowing possessions.

I dunno....if Lon wanted him it makes me think that when the kid gets to be a sr (maybe a jr) he'll be an average to slightly below average Big 12 player. But if we're offerring a kids as early as we did Spradling, I'd like to think/hope that he has the ability to contribute earlier and at a higher level (which it doesn't appear to be the case). Maybe we won't need Spradling to be much more than a reserve until then? Still haven't figured out how Frank will use Gruds and Russell.

My perspective is that while chasing higher end prospects we failed to fill out the roster in 08' with quality players. I think Frank learned from previous experience and set up a quality base to his class. I don't think Will should or will be a reserve for his entire career, but if he doesn't turn out to be a stud by his Junior/Senior year he at least has the skills and traits to be a quality backup. I also think his length makes him a great guard at either spot because he'll be able to defend.
I'm proud of Frank and Co. for learning from experience.

He couldn't be at Kstate and Colorado at the same time. Yes, was was at ku on Friday KState didn't start on Friday. So there was no way he could attend the Kstate Elite camp. Just wanted to let you know the facts.
