Title: Best place to watch away games in MHK?
Post by: Ghost of Stan Parrish on June 03, 2009, 09:10:55 PM
I will be in Manhattan to visit family on the day of the UCLA game.  Which bar has the best game-day atmosphere for watching away games?  Rustys?  And how is Bobby Ts on game day?  (It'll be the closest.) :dunno:

TIA.

Tubby's is one of the best, because of all the flat screens in there. Also if you get a seat on the upperdeck part each table has it's own Television.

I recommend So-Long Saloon.  They have good food and although the TV screens aren't huge, the food is good and the atmosphere is great.  I recommend the black bean raspberry chipotle dip, the resist temptation, onion rings, and a Boulevard Wheat beer.

Regardless of where you watch the game, enjoy what will hopefully be a Wildcat victory!

I'm a fan of Tubby's. Very nice atmosphere.

Aren't you like 14?

And Tubby's is good.  Kites can also be good.  Rusty's is a definite no.  I know it's been awhile since you've been in Manhattan and all but sheesh.

Let me tell you a surprising choice.

Buffalo Wild Wings aka BWW this is a great little mom and pop that is synonomous with downtown Manhattan/Aggieville area.  The Buffalo family is historic to the grassland/prayere region of Nortern-East Kansas where they were the first Buffalo soldiers (Kind of like Larry Johnson, a bison-bred minotaur if you will) to fight for our countries freedom against the violent roving packs of native hyper-allergenic dandelions and muskrats (two fronts).  Pretty awesome right?  Right.  Well anywho, they went in to business with a little known guy named Rusty Varney's.  Bing, bang, boom a little family feud, a few capos get whacked, Johnny Sax has the cancer in the big house and they open a little place where bros can meat to talk 1( MMA 2) NFL 3( college football and 4) Operation Iraqi Freedom *leave no man behind over Wings doused in ranch, doused in 500 liter Bud Light or $599 super-premium domestics (ROLLING ROCK STRAIGHT FROM LATROBE IN THE ORIGINAL GREEEN BOTTLES!)

Atmosphere?  Yeah, it has got some freaking atmosphere bro.  And if you want a free drink, just play up the "DD" angle and head over to the fountain drinks.  These'll be on the house tonight bro.  Drink your fill.

Love So Long but would never watch a game there.  Their TV situation is not good.  Hope to never set foot in Rusty's the rest of my life and, luckily, it sucks to watch a game there anyway.  The new side of Kites has a really good TV set up.  BWW always has a good TV set up (it's the "go to" if we are out of town as it is a proven product), Tubbys is good.  Don't like Willies.  :dunno:  lots of options bro.

If you go to BWW make sure there isn't some MMA or UFC or WWE fight going on. Riley rats will def. want half of the tv's on that station.

Bobby T's is just fine for watching a game.  Good tv situation.  And since you'll be in that area don't forget Early Edition for sunday morning breakfast.

They understand their TV setup very well.  It's also a very safe choice when you are in unfamiliar surroundings.  I want to yell at every "sports bar" owner in Omaha for their set ups.

I am still living the fantasy that they will play it on the jumbotron at BSFS and let us watch it from the stands, no beer - but oh well, that is was tailgating is for.

Bobby T's is great. If it's an early enough game you can catch some Early Edition. I lived 4 blocks from there, love that place. In the Ville I like Kites, great atmosphere and good tv situation.

This was almost a decent suggestion until The Chef came in.  Then it is a ridic selection unless you have a family and go to church a lot or your daughter works there (all weirdly wholesome h.s. waitresses).

Otherwise go to The Chef because the food is good and you might order a mamosa or a beer with yer eggs or your chicken pot pie or your Belt Burger with monterrey jack.

There really isn't that great of an "away game atmosphere" imo. I think it's because we've sucked for 6 years. But I would recommend Kites and Tubby's. Pat's isn't too bad either - lots of flat screens.

watching games at bars is very overrated imo. would rather watch at home where i can see and hear, and not have a waitress bothering me every five minutes wanting me to buy expensive beer.

You think I haven't already booked elite direct flights on  :AA: ?  I'll be a monkey's uncle if I'm going to miss any games this year with such easy BSFS access!
