Title: how long
Post by: Rick Daris on May 10, 2009, 05:48:25 PM
bmw thread got me thinking. how long did it take you to graduate college (assuming you've graduated)? do you wish you woulda stayed longer? finished sooner? It was six and a half years for me (from the time i finished high school until i got my bach). took a semester off though  8-) .

all in all kind of a good deal i guess. i kinda liked college, much more than i like working and i'll prob work for like thirty years of my life. always thought that people who were in a hurry to graduate were kinda weird ya know. i mean, it really was a good time (college).

Graduated in four years (BSEE).  At the time, I was ready to get out and work and I needed the money...

It took me 5 years to get my masters degree.  I knew at the time graduating was a horrible mistake, and I have regreted it ever since.

I was in school from 93 to 98 and then from 2006 to 2008 for my bachelors.  I enrolled in 22 semesters of college counting summer sessions and changed my major 5 times.  It wasn't exactly a Van Wilder re-make.

6 years for undergrad and masters.  Loved college, but was having trouble finding people to hang out with since most of my friends had already graduated and were gone by then.

I recycled my outer group of friends about every year anyway.  Making new friends was the fun part.

Knew a guy who started in I think '93 as an ArchE (160 hr program instead of the usual 120).  Kept dropping classes and whatnot.  Took a whole bunch of German classes and had enough for a minor, then a degree.  Still didn't graduate.  Wanted to work on the ArchE thing still.  Last I knew, in 2007, he was still working his way toward a bachelors, but not sure if it was still in ArchE or not.  By that time, he probably had to go back and retake College Algebra and the other beginning course he took at the beginning because the credits expired.

I took 4.5.  Spent another 1.5 part time working toward a certification later.  School was much, much easier the 2nd time around at age 30.  Just more mature and less distracted by all the stuff that is college when you're 19/20/21.

I took the slow boat: 7 for my BS & MS in engineering, I finally left when my major professor informed me that I had enough course credit not only for my MS but also for a PhD and that I needed to either defend my MS and leave or start a dissertation.  JD was the standard 3-year slog but after engineering it was cake, an extended cocktail party.  LL.M. was a year.

It started as a JD/MBA, the four year deal.  Ditched the law after a year and finished with the standard MBA at......The University of Kansas.   Quite a few EMAW running around the grad programs there, actually.

College was fun and all, but I worked more and had to pay thousands of dollars a year, as opposed to now where I never do anything after 5:30 and get paid a good chunk of change. I'll pass on going back.
