Title: bars in da ville
Post by: RonLongshaft on May 09, 2009, 12:39:49 PM
was having a convo with a buddy last night over a few beers, and the converstation of bars in the ville that we have not been to came up.  i'm pretty sure i've been to every bar but, tanks and silverados/buschwachers. I would think silverados would be a common answer to this question but i'll let you guys decide.

Good thread. I always try and convince my friends to go to Silverados, you know just to go and see if we survive. Other than that I've never really been to Auntie Maes

Went to rado's once while I was in school, and I like country.  It just never made sense to pay a cover when there were places where you didn't have to.

do you mean horns? never been to rado's so maybe they play country and have a cover, but sounds an awful lot like horns to me.

Silverwhackers is the only one I can think of.  The Mrs. doesn't want to get stabbed.

I'm pretty sure its bushwackers now not silverados. Bushwackers and Fast Eddy's are the only 2 bars I've never been in, it might have something to do with the fact that 90% of all stabbing happen in that corner.....

Bushwacker's and Fast Eddy's for me too, me and a buddy were going to go to bushwacker's back when it was silverado's just to walk through, but then the bouncer said $5 cover, so we walked away. It's like the anti-elite bar

This sounds like a non elite thread.  I had been to all the bars in the ville (at least the ones that were there when I was there).  No good pub crawl skips a single drinking establishment in the ville.  Of course that was 12 years ago.  Don't know what bars are there now and when I was there stabbings were not very common.  Didn't like Auntie Meas don't like being in crowded basements.  What is the fire code?

Think it's like five or six.  That place is like drinking in the crawl space under my house.

These days there are bars where only "those people" go to. Therefore most pub crawls will skip Bushwackers just because people get stabbed there and there's land mines all over the place in there.

Went on a pub crawl last night and finally made it to these two bars. Fast eddies was pretty cool but bushwackers reeked of cheap cologne, brute or something. I'm pretty sure they think its an air freshener...

Best Reuben in Manhattan.

I feel like my portions there are meager for what I pay.  It makes my meal less satisfying even if it tastes good.

On another note.  Has anyone else noticed how some of the smokier bars smell nasty now that aggieville is smoke free?

Very true, I think O'Malley's is the worst, it just always smells like puke in there. Every bar definitely has a bad smell that the smoke covered up.

Tanks was better before the last renovations.  I like it in there when it isn't too packed.  Shot stop is my least favorite bar in Manhattan.  It's always packed and pretty much packed full of assholes.  It's hard to get to the bar because of all of the assholes and there is no where to sit, so you have to stand by the assholes to drink your drink.  Did I mention all of the assholes?

Only time I was in Silverados was for Bar Olympics or when there was a concert.  Never been to Fast Eddy's.  Never went to Tulas and all of it's later iterations (don't even know what it's called now).

But there is more seating, some of the people are not assholes.  You can also get a drink fairly quickly.

I hate it when it is packed.  Like it when it is not.

How in the hell have you never been to the hut or Texas Star?  That's just weird dude.
No one I am with ever wants to go.

And I don't generally go to drink by myself at a bar.

you know they aren't really bar bars right? they serve food there. like a lot of it. kind of weird that you're even including it/them imo.
You know i've been inside them right, so how would I know?  Kinda weird that you wouldn't comprehend that. imo.

oh, okay. here are some aggieville bars that i've never been to:

jimmy johns
starbucks
police substation
laundry mat

Been to them all.  Bushwackers isn't as much of a death wish as it used to be but is still pretty lame.  Shot Stop and Tanks should be burnt to the ground.  Maes, Pats and O'mal's FTW!

Why? Any reasons?

guessing we have an employee or if nothing else a norm

Yes, work at both... I know they aren't for everyone, but I think they get some bad misconceptions

Tanks is kinda the same way.

Just wondering what everyone didn't really like about it. Diff'rnt strokes for diff'rnt folks.
Same reasons I don't ever feel like going to O'Mals (plus, I don't enjoy the smell of vomit).  Wish I could get Belfasts to go!  :chainsaw:

My favorite bar to go drink at with my bros is applebees.  Catch games there a lot too.  Seems like a cross between a sports bar and a speak easy type place.

Very Cheersesque layout to those places.

yeah. that was only on tuesdays. almost included it in clams'zss cheap mhk food thread but didn't know if 5 bucks was cheap enough. that place in the summer on the patio w/ jerk chik and rice/peas is my fav place/food in manhattan. there is also a new jamaican restaurant over in junction city (caribbean negril) which is a little more authentic. really good too, but it's in jc and doesn't have a patio so...
