Title: Best "popular songs" of the last couple of years.
Post by: michigancat on October 10, 2006, 11:09:25 AM
I'm going to swallow my pride and start with....

Holla Back Girl.

I heard it this weekend at a wedding, and it is still a damn fine song.

You're not going to get an arguement from me either way on them, I just thought that they were supposed to be considered "good".

I can't tell you the last time I listened to the radio, you know how bad it sucks in KC.

I do like Outkast though, have several of their songs.

Gnarls is nice.

I have Sirius...radio would be perfect if I could get an "alternative" hip-hop station and a non-crappy blues station

how many times would you hear that song and go "god damnit it's nickleback again."  then change to a different station and guess what?  it's nickleback again.

i remember seeing somewhere on the internet that a guy looked at the chords used in a few nickleback songs, and they were the exact same notes.

Cold Hard Bitch - Jet

of the bands you 'tards might have actually heard of:

Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting - Nickelback, of course they didn't write it which is probably why it's a solid tune.

Are you suggesting that Jet is some sort of underground indie band who gets no radio play?

No, I'm suggesting that 99% of the population here (myself excluded of course) wouldn't know good music if it bit them on the ass.

good rock as in crappy indie bands that all sounds the same, kinda like how pop/rock/emo does, except they aren't on the radio so they're better?*

good rap as in the same boring stories rapped over instrumentals consisting of stolen music?  "good" rap bores me.

at least that's how it is in those genres with people who think they are music elitists.

*there are some good indie bands out there.  i'm just talking about bands like death cab, shins, surfjan stevens, fray**, snow patrol, keane, and any other band that copies coldplay, oh and &@#%ING GNARLS BARKLEY :chainsaw: :chainsaw: :chainsaw:.  oh and if nobody knows about the band, don't brag about liking them.

**actually saw them live, they were ok.  nothing compared to the only other shows i've seen though (incubus, and matisyahu who was by far the best)

Oh how I loved Stacey Ferguson (Fergy) back in the 90's when she was with Wild Orchid and before her days as a meth-head.  So sad...

JT is the Micheal Jackson of this generation.

For some of you young'uns there was a day and a time when MJ totally kicked ass.  I dare you to try and play Billy Jean and not shake your ass.

His Jackson 5 stuff was incredible, too.

JT is not at MJ's level, yet.
