Title: Quaterback race not as close as it seems...
Post by: KSU2002 on May 04, 2009, 09:25:40 AM
According my people (yes J-Mart, some of us have people, but not as good as your people of course), Snyder feels there is no one on the team even close to Coffman's ability at this time. Due to obvious reasons he will not come out and say this but look for Snyder to start talking him up right before the season starts.

The USF guy could be comparable and more used to a Snyderesque system at USF.  Plus he's like a ton more attractive as a human being and has tats.

According to my eyes watching the spring game I agree.  For all the hype about Klein I was pretty disapointed in what I saw.  Kas could be a player as a TE or DE but I don't see him as a QB.  All in all the QB position is really weak right now lots of work to be done there with recruiting.  The kid from USF may or may not start but either way he's needed just to have an adequate back up.

I was hoping to see at least one of the #2 QB's take snaps w/ the purple team. Coffman didn't make any mistakes, but I can't recall him getting pressured. I would have liked to see how one of the second-stringers looked behind the same O-line that Carson had. I left at the end of the third quarter, but I assume Coffman was the only one to take snaps for the purple team.?.

If all Carson does this year is not make mistakes, I will be one happy EMAWer.  It's pretty obvious the dude isn't the most physically gifted dude out there but if he can manage the game, at least that's better than him being another reason why we lose a ton of games.

Sadly, that's all we can hope for at this point.  For most of our players, a good game will be one in which they didn't &@#% up too badly.

Coffman didn't make any mistakes, but he shouldn't against a defense that was filled with several walk-ons and did no blitzing or stunting for the entire game.

But I agree, the gap between Coffman and the rest of the guys the white team threw out at QB is pretty large.  We badly need some more guys to come in and compete at the spot.

We just are an awefully thin, and not very athletic football team right now.  Lots of work to do.

At least we know that Coffman is durable as hell.
