I'm starting to get back into baseball card collecting, mainly the material cards (i.e. jerseys, pants, bats, etc.). Looking for a talking/trading partner. Let me know if you're interested.

Kinda OT: You wanna be depressed about something? Check the prices for your treasured $$$ cards you thought you would retire on when you were a kid. I think most of mine are worth less now than when I was 13.

QFT.
I have nearly every card printed in the 80s. Football, baseball, basketball, you name it.
Except for a few, they aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

I collected cards starting in 1980. I always got the thrill of building entire sets by opening packs (then 30 to 50 cents per pack). I'd always fill out my set with a card collector out of Bennington. As I got into my college years, the prices of cards skyrocketed and the number of cards per pack were shrinking. I bought a couple of full sets in the early 90's, but that was it. I always seem to buy a pack or two every year, just to maintain the thrill of getting a whole bunch of nothing in a pack. Getting a George Brett card was always the best. *sigh*
I've got a Brett rookie that sits in the safety deposit box. I've also got an uncut sheet with a McGwire USA team and a Dwight Gooden rookie. It was $9 when I bought it. It was about $500 at the height of McGwire's chase, but it probably wouldn't bring much more than 50-100 now. Haven't checked in awhile. I'll just hang on to it.

yeah, i stopped when i hit 5th grade.

Dang.... I coulda sold it for a few hundert a couple years ago. *sigh*
It's not mint condition either. It's got a touch of wear on the corners. Bought it for $35 way back. Good thing I didn't buy it as an investment.
Thanks for ruining my day, SD.

Pavel Bure was my fave growing up, along with Alexander Mogilny.

I dug out the cards that I had collected 15 years ago and put all but 3 back in the box. I figured I'd give it one more go around and see if I can find enjoyment somewhere.

I collect cards, too. Oh wait, no I don't, I'm not 13.

People can be so mean :'(
To refute this for the record, the average age for baseball card collectors is now 26.
I've got some hobby boxes coming and will scan in any hits.

I used to collect baseball cards back in the 80's and quit in the early 90's when the prices started to skyrocket. Back in the good old days a pack of Topps was like 35 cents and you got 15 cards and a free delicious piece of gum was included!!
Another reason that I, along with most males quit collecting baseball cards, was the discovery of pussy. Let's see, I can research card prices in the new Beckett Monthly, or chase some tail.

My parents bought me a complete set of tops every year from 81(born) to 99(turned 18). Then they burnt in a fire :crybaby:. My dad sold his Manle and Maris rookie cards and put down a nice down payment on their house

I used to collect football, baseball, and basketball cards in general, but for the past 8 years I have been focused more on KSU alumni players (either college or pro uniforms). I have about 1500 different KSU cards (not counting duplicates), and about 60,000 cards all together. Got a couple of serially numbered 1/1 cards of Darren Sproles.
I'm always looking for trading partners for KSU cards including the promotional cards they give out at games.

I got a Bobby Hull autographed puck. and Phil esposito. couple of signed cards from random players. cliff ronning too.

Have an autographed A-Rod ball from his rookie season w/ certificate of authenticity. It went from his hands to a glass case where it has sat ever since. Three years ago it was clockin' in at 500+.... now :flush:
-
Got an Autographed pete rose baseball. Worthless, as his career right now is signing baseballs to sell.
