Title: favorite kid movie
Post by: Rick Daris on March 20, 2009, 10:04:41 AM
and by kid movie, i mean movie with basically nothing but kids as actors. animated movie would work as well i guess.

1)Goonies- really the only logical choice for #1. allstar cast-check. amazing special effects-check. incedible producer/director combo-check. basically a comedy, mystery and romance all rolled into one. wow what an incredible movie. what else can you say? not much. just incredible.

runner up-

bad news bears #1 and #2- Chris Barnes is absolutely transcendent in his role as Tanner Boyle. Tatum O'neil is great in the first and Scott Baio's cousin does a solid job in the 2nd with jackie earl haley taking the lead. don't see bnb #3. horrible, horrible movie.

honorable mention-

stand by me. pretty decent movie.

would've been #4 on my list if my list went to four. basically a modern day bad news bears but less edgy and not as funny.

I like to think of it as the BNB for my era. I might have to watch that movie again. Some great stuff in that movie.

BNB def. more edgy.  Loved Sandlot though.  The Mighty Duck series is obv. good.  Stand By Me reminds me of a 2 hour episode of The Wonder Years featuring just Wayne and his friends....if that jerk had any.

Good one!

I'd nominate A Christmas Story as a good seasonal kids movie.

well, the wonder years was probably the best show on tv ever...so i'm going to assume that you loved stand by me. stand by me was decent, i basically put it on my list because i didn't want to succomb to all the sandlot fanboys that i knew would be showing up. also didn't want to have that many baseball movies on my list.

I was about to mention Little Giants, great show. The only drawback was that the Cowboys lost in the movie.  :frown:

If you've ever found yourself thinking there should be a kids movie made by Monty Python, also starring Sean Connery and a gang of little people (/midgets/dwarves), then you'll love:

"Time Bandits"

It is perhaps the only kids movie where both parents die suddenly at the end, and a 9-year-old kid is left alone on the street in front of his burned-down house.  A real feel-good ending.

Sports: Sandlot

SciFi: Flight of the Navigator

Animated: Cars (Owen Wilson & Cable Guy combo is fantastic)

Adventure & Comedy: The Goonies
