Robert is a tradition at KSU. That is pretty much all he has. In the total scheme of things that's not much. But it's everything to him. His family is back East. They pretty much pawned him off 25 years ago. He has never, not once embarrassed the university. Even with his limitations he has only given his best to KSU. So you tell me! I think it's a big deal and I'm very dissapointed in Prince. Again he will be there long after Prince has exited! Guys he loved that team when they couldn't win a game for years at a time. As far as I'm concerned his is the essance of the wildcat, even though he is not like you or me. You have to look past the scruff. I'm totally PISSED about this matter. I hope this doesn't stand!

Tell me three things:
1) What, exactly was Robert allowed to do before that he is no longer allowed to do now?
2) Would you or I be allowed to do what Robert used to be allowed to do?
3) Would you or I be allowed the privelages Robert enjoys now?

It's not an issue about what you or I would be allowed to do. Robert has been there since about 1970. He has earned every one of those privleges. When you've given what he has come talk to me in about 36 years. Lets not lose track of the fact that you probably don't have the same limitations as Robert. So, it's about Robert. He's not like others and never will be. "WE" are not tradition. He is. The way Robert is treated is more important to me that our win lose record! How Robert is treated and has been treated has spoken well of the community / KSU . I hope Prince realizes that and reverses the situation.

I think I did answer your question. He not like you or me. So, you shouldn't compare what he is allowed to do compared to us. To very differnt things! I don't consider my self to be a tradition. I doubt that Robert would consider himself a tradition either. But he is.

The main question I had was what is he now not allowed to do that he could previously. "He is not like you or me" does not answer that question.

I honestly have no opinion on Robert's access to Vanier or lack thereof.
That said, here are some facts:
1) Former players such as Jonathan Beasley and Jamie Rheem have been
told by personnel in Vanier that they aren't allowed in the building
per Prince policy. It was custom when Snyder was here to have an
open-door policy for former players, most of which stopped by his
office to say "Hi" to Joan Friederich, the long-time secretary,
and their former coach. A visit with Joan, apparently, is off limits.
2) Under Snyder, Robert was allowed into the team's locker room, I
beleive, after Friday practices. I'm almost positive he gave a pre-game
speech prior to every Nebraska game. I know for a fact he did prior to
the '04 game. The players, from what I hear, thought he was strange,
poked fun at him, at times, but also considered him part of the team.
Bill considered him part of the family, and allowed him access that no
other fan had.
All that said, things have changed. No reason for Prince to carry any of
that over. This is his program now, and he's free to do with and do
away with whatever he wishes. Right?

What exactly are his limitations, don't get me wrong, I don't think he's all there, but you act like he's an inviilid. What I had heard is not what you are claiming, I thought he was a former student, not someone who was dumped of by their family. Also, doesn't he run a moderatly successful business in Manhattan? I would think that would be impossible for someone with such severe limitations you are claiming.

To those K-staters that are younger. Robert may seem to be a pest because he is different. I assure you he is not. Many won't realize that until years after they graduate. That is sad in my view. He's worth getting to know as many have. He wanders through the tail gate parties and is welcomed and fed by many. He transends about 36yrs. of graduating class. Many have come to love and admire because we see his spirit and love for KSU.

Well ... Snyder did ban Robert and it took Sharon Snyder getting on Bill's ass about it to get Robert back in.
What I am most disappointed in hearing is the closed door policy to former players ... even though KSU wasn't any good prior to Snyder, he made it a point to reach out to former players.

Robert has basicly be adopted by the community. They buy pencils and things like that from him. Robert originally came to Manhattan as a student. He does have a disorder of some type. He is able to function but has real limitations. Could be a type of autism? I don't know. He worked for me years ago. He was very loyal always showed up but had no common sense what so ever. Yes, it was my knowledge of him that led me to say I feel that Roberts family likes hiim in Mahattan better than New York. He does go to visit them on occassion but doesn't stay for long. KSU and the surrounding community is his real family in my opinion. I no longer live in Manhattan. I built the Colorado Plaza Mid Rise long ago and Robert worked for me on that job and a couple of others.

Robert not being allowed in Vanier is not that big of a deal. He can still roam around the parking lot and stands at home and away games like he always does.
IMO the bigger issue, if there is one, is Prince not having an "open door" policy with former players. I thought he was wanting more former player involvement, and it's not like he'll have to worry about tens of former players flooding Vanier on a daily basis. Maybe Prince is worried about someone claiming to be a former player (who really isn't) and getting into Vanier to steal our extensive and prolific offensive playbook.

Yep, it's his program alright. It's just wise to tread slowly sometimes. Prince wasn't hired to create a tradition. He was hired to perpetuate a tradition. I realize he has to take the bull by the horn and make it his, but making the complex off limits to Robert Lipson and football alumni? I think he would be better advised to make the offense work.

I'm not throwing Snyder under the bus, just stating facts - are they incorrect?
How about these as well - I was there for those, so yeah, my "exposure" :bootyshake: is more than enough:
We're at 250% in half a season of the totasl from '83-89.
Would Snyder's tradition have gotten us a win at Baylor - I really,really doubt it given no changes to his staff. In fact, his tradition was poor outings following losses in big games.

Does anyone know how robert feels about this? Does he care? Does he understand? Does he now hate Coach Prince? It's just Vanier... I'm of the opinion that only Staff, players, and press should be allowed in. Rob doesn't fit that criteria.

I can understand both sides of this. I can see Coach Prince's side b/c he had no previous experience or relationship with Robert. On the other hand, programs all over the country from HS to college have an individual that is part of the team like Robert or Radio if you've seen the movie. Its really fairly common and I think its a good thing. Hopefully Robert will grow on the new staff, and while they don't necessarily have to let him have full access, perhaps a little more would be appropriate.
Another question regarding this topic is if Robert has had access to any of the basketball programs like this in the past? I've seen him at all the games, but I can't remember him being in the locker room or around the court before.

Yeah, lockerroom, never before, but a lot after games.

Being banned from Vanier per Prince is not bad.
Being banned from KSU athletics.. you gotta be some pretty bad dude to have that happen to you.

wildcat74574574 i have no opinion to share on this matter but I do have a suggestion. Write up a petition and go over to ksufans and here and have people give you their permission to write their names on it and email it to coach Prince. I don't know if it will help to change his mind or not but let him know how many people are pissed off about it..

I'm sorry, I might have missed it. Did anyone actually answer the question, "why should Robert be allowed in Vanier?" If so I've loved to see the reasoning behind it. If its that he's a staple of the community what say we allow T-Rock (you know Terry, the guy that sells candles in AggieVille), why don't we let him in Vanier and while we're at it let's let Freddy (African-American guy) into Vanier as well.
I'm not trying to be a dick but if Robert has in some way made a contribution to the K-State Athletic program through blood, sweat, tears, or if he's made some form of sacrifice for the program I can see the arguement. he is arguably one of the biggest ksu fans ever. he hasn't missed a game (not just a home game but a game) for like 100 games or something?? not sure if that's accurate. but as i have said before, i have no opinion on this matter, i care more about how well we do saturday than anything else.

Yeah, Robert has made a real contribution to KSU football. He has supported them for over 35 years. When I knew him he carried every ticket to show that he hadn't missed a game in years. He would actually hitch hike to away games before he got a car. All during a time when we couldn't even beat the spread. He's always led a very meager existance but his committment to KSU Athletics has never waivered. He never misses anything and is forever watching over the Wildcats. Robert has basicly dedicated his life to KSU. :ksu: :ksu:

Perhaps, but I think it says something about someone that would take something away from a very loyal person who has made KSU his life. I don't see this as an entitlement for Robert. I hope Prince feels like a big man. Robert will still be KSU greatest fan LONG after prince is gone. If he has any sense he will invite him back. End of story!

Maybe if we start winning Prince will let him in. However, you aren't going to do anything about it by complaining. Did you take me up on my suggestion of starting a petition and emailing it to the coach? I know Prince cares about what we think, maybe that will help him rethink it atleast...

No, I'm not going to try to start anything. It's just that banning Robert from Vanier just seems so small and un necessary (petty). Trust me Robert will figure something out. After all he's been there since Vince Gibson? Who knows maybe he told Prince he was screwing something up! LOL Who knows. :loly: :loly: :ksu:
