I want to buy some tickets now because there are some good deals out there at the moment...
The reason I think it is fine to go ahead and buy tickets is because I've been playing around with this:
http://www.notnothing.net/bball/b12mbb.php
And there hasn't been a time, even with me predicting different results, where we don't finish the 4th or 5th seed.
-
We could still finish lower than 5th, and if we do finish 5th... we could lose to CU. :blank:
-
We could finish 6th even if we beat CU. If TX beats ku and OSU beats OU we are 6th (assuming we lose at OSU).
-
we could lose to CU. :blank:
I don't see this. We know what we need to do in the Big XII tourney in order to go dancing, especially if we do lose to OSU.

Also, our team could catch the plague! :runaway:

At this point, KSU, UT, and OSU will probably finish 1-1, resulting in a three way tie for 4th place. If there is a three way tie, it will go to the third tiebreaker: record vs. divisional opponents. Texas would then secure 4th, leaving KSU and OSU to fight for 5th. OSU would have the head to head tiebreaker over us, giving us the 6th seed. So, right now, it looks like we will be the 6th seed unless we can beat OSU, which I don't see happening.

I don't think this is right. The first tie-breaker, between divisional opponents (OSU/UT), is more of an elimination. In other words, the loser (OSU unless UT loses to BU and OSU beats OU, then it gets kind of convoluted) becomes the #6 seed and it then reverts to KSU vs. UT for the 4/5 slots and that is based on head-to-head which KSU obviously wins and gets the #4 seed.
Read and decide for yourselves:

ksu @ 9-7 in 3 or 4 way tie gets 4 seed according to mred's generator.

Are they not 1-1 against each other? I referred to that link as well. It's more difficult to tell a 3 way tiebreaker when the rules are written in terms of two teams. You may be right though.

The probability of this happening is pretty low. But the point of this thread was to see how we could end up lower then the 5th seed, so you're right on.
