yeah. i think it was also used to bridge the gap between recess (elementary school) and no recess (high school)

remember playing kickball n stuff sometimes during homeroom.

in grade school seemed it was always recess -> lunch -> reading or some other sucky subject

in middle school was called "primetime" (studyhall) :dunno: last class of day every day

in 9th grade we called it seminar (block schedule, alternated mwf and tu)

10-12th grade we called it "ELO" (extended learning opportunities or something stupid) and it was tues/thurs

had 'seminar' the first class every morning.  loved it.  made it so i never had to do my hw at night because i could do it right before class.  also made it ok to be late to school.

We weren't allowed to talk in seminar. Just read or do homework. No sleeping either. Some teachers let their class talk but only once did I get one of those teachers  :blank:

The point of homeroom class is, I think, to let the administrators get all their ducks in a row more than anything.  Make sure they've got attendance records for the day, give time to make announcements, and of course hold the middle schoolers' hands in case they show up to school late or forgot to do their homework the night before. In high school, though, seminar is just sanctioned skipping/weed time.

Make the dumb kids feel like the administration cares about them not falling too far behind.

Pretty sure they just used that time for smoke breaks and to discuss who was finger banging Sally big boobs in the hallway upstairs after school last week.

PS:  It was me.
