Not sure what to think... He will be the veteran vocal leader on the defense but how productive can he be still? I guess we will find out.

Its an improvement at least :dunno:

Rumors are surfacing that there may be more to this deal... sounds like Cassel could also be on his way to KC as well...

Until the Pats franchised him and guaranteed the loss of two first round picks....
-
No player is worth two first round picks.
-
A guy like Carl Peterson being notorious for wasting 1st round (well...all) draft picks there are plenty of guys worth it
-
I am not so sure anymore about the Cassel deal... but the Vrabel deal has gotten me to thinking... Are they banking on Curry to fall to them in the 3rd pick and Vrabel possibly be a mentor for Curry? I think that would be a pretty good way for Curry to get worked into the NFL is follow the lead of a 3 time super-bowl champion and very talented in his prime linebacker...

A lot of LB's would look good behind NE's DL. The only way KC should trade for Cassel is if they could unload LJ (which they can't) for some picks.
Cassel's TD/INT through 16 games was 21/11,
Thigpen's TD/INT through 14 games was 18/12 (behind a dogsh*t OL)

I guess the two first round picks are only guaranteed if the Patriots had offered Cassell a contract, which they hadn't.

yeah, that's why I thought it wouldn't happen, would be too expensive. A 2nd round pick for an unproven starting QB and a old LB isn't that great but isn't that bad.

I disagree.... I think it's a steal. While the QB isn't completely proven, he's shown enough in his first real action to know that he could be a pretty darn good player. I think the Vrabel part of the deal has a lot to do with what kind of clubhouse guy he is.

I dunno...his TD/INT is pretty close to Thigpen only he wasn't playing on a crap team. Does have a considerably higher completion % though.

this is a complete steal. considering what Vrabel has done in his career, and what cassel did last year; to get both for a 2nd is incredidble. Vrabel while aging, isn't that old and will have a couple more solid years left. Cassel is well worth the risk, Pioli knows him and wouldn't have pulled the trigger is he didn't believe in him.

you also have to consider that Cassel hadn't played meaningful football since high school, he may have been a little rusty.
