Title: Deal of the Century
Post by: KSUTOMMY on February 26, 2009, 07:10:15 PM
I feel like I know you all well enough to let a little secret out of the bag - I am a fanatic for movie popcorn... who in the hell isn't. OK, here it is folks - I saw one of these poppers in Target for $100+... so I did the only thing that makes sense, I looked for it on ebay and the average price was about $70 and rarely with free shipping, so I searched for it on Overstock.com and VOILA! To my suprise, there it was and $2 shipping to boot!!! It arrived tonight and I have already gorged myself on popcorn, and it is identical to the movies (if you use the special oil that you can get at Dillons)

This is agreeable the best non-essential appliance I have ever owned. Check it out and you will not be disappointed. Oh, and if I were a bachelor still - this would have been a double shipment with something else from this company -

Hershey squirts - good, I always have a sense of being "cleansed" afterward. Kinda feel a little hollow as well.

OK, microwave popcorn = meh

this thing FCKING rocks... I suppose a good comparison is as follows

Microwave popcorn = keystone light

this thing's popcorn = boulevard wheat (sans lemon, that crap is for girls and uk fans)

I hate to let another little secret out of the bag about movie popcorn, but here goes....

I've ordered popcorn from the movie theater for various functions.  They sell popped popcorn by the huge bag (30 and 50 gal bags) for dirt cheap.  It's essentially the same price for one of those big bags as it is for a tub during the movie.

Interesting popcorn-related anecdote:
The office at the KCKCC satellite in Leavenworth has a little popcorn maker, and one of my classes was directly across the hall. During class you'd get that nice popcorn smell, then afterwards you could have some (free for everyone). I think it tasted better because it was free.

Microwave popcorn: Good enough for me. I like to throw some season salt on it.
Microwave "kettle corn":  :yuck:

My grandparents have one of the old popcorn makers that has a small metal rod that spins around, and you have to pour the oil and kernels in it. When its done, you turn it over and remove the lid, which then becomes a bowl. My grandma puts molasses on it. It's not bad, but it isn't the way I would choose to eat my popcorn more than once every now and then.

This popcorn information is brought to you by Perry.  Enjoy.

What does not being a bachelor have to do with not getting this??  For god sakes, be a man and just buy the thing.  Yeah, spending $519 might get you a dirty look from the lady, but she'll get over it.  Or you can just drink from it until you forget that she's mad at you.  Win-win situation.
