Title: My scrapbook of the game.
Post by: ECN on February 26, 2009, 11:00:34 AM
Wednesday was like any other day. I left work and headed for Columbia. Took a shot of Sake, and went on my way.

sake

Drove through KC listening to Bowie. The sun was setting, my gf was excited. She is a uk fan and dragged me to the uk/nubb game last sat.

I entered Columbia listening to Temple of Boom, and picked up the tickets from my aunt and uncles. They opted not to go to the game, for they had tickets to see Stomp™ instead. Ironically, so did I.

I've been to Missou Arena many times, and it's still gorgeous. Parked in the ROTC lot just off of Maryland and Kentucky.

The walk was uphill, and I had no idea the game was headed in the opposite direction. I was the only CatFan™ in my section, and the seats were the very top seats in the entire place.

Images rezzed down for message board viewability. I took over 150 pics, but just uploaded random ones.

Here goes:

Thank you ECN, that was life changing... not as life changing as a promise of a cell phone that was never deliverd, but will be - BUT, life changing none the less.

thx, SD...its a big deal.

im going to get a few new lenses for it and do it professionally. start off with stupid engagement photos and do killer photoshop work on them.

it was a pretty penny, but got a great deal on eBay from a poor schmuck from NYC

they came in a metal collectible tin with side handles.

From the way he is tugging at them I don't think Frank likes his new suit pants.  He looked sharp last night though (for Frank).  Excellent shirt/tie combo.  Post one of that if you have a good one ECN.

I think the arena is garbage.  Concourses feel like a HS gym.

Tech's is a billion times nicer.

Is Ron Anderson as calm as he looks on the tube?

really nice job on the pics and prose!  makes me feel like i was there (except for vicious backstabbing catcalls on the way to the car and of course the soul-crushing drive home)

hmm... really like that loyal 'expensive seats' following for a top ten ranked 23-4 team on a strong run in the conference... jerks!

I'm in a few of those shots. Nice work Chupa. Didn't know you were going to be there or I would have said hi.

That's a long road trip back home to Manhattan after a 8pm game. Rolled in about 2:40am.

The hell is wrong with Frank's left foot?  Why does it look 2 centimeters thick?  Is it me or is foot burried into the hardwood floor as if he's standing in quicksand...?

gotta know people. I'd like to boast that I can just pick up a phone and get courtsides... but I don't have big donor pull like others that sit in that row. Thing is ...alot of the people around us are connected to the staff or are KC area catbackers. Join your local Catbacker organization is some friendly advice.

The people with courtside seats either have seats or access to the club. It's terrible, they all sit and drink in some reserved area where only VIPs can go, while the university they supposedly support is out playing. The rest of the place is full, but these people ruin our image on national television.

welcome over here 'fan!

such is the fate of sports today, it's like john lennon said at the royal concert "...you fans in the cheaper seats clap your hands, and the rest of you rattle your jewelry..."

club seats, reserved parking, seat licensing, gifting levels etc... is certainly a far cry from sneaking in, a spontaneous trip to the ballpark or the knot-hole-gang, and like you said, it makes you look like you have an indifferent fan base

i guess we'll put ECN in with the upper-crust richies, since he's connected... but forgive him because his photo-reporting is so awesome

wait! i'm clueless... i thought it was YOU down at courtside and he up with bob eueker... top row is were i was last year, parlaying a 'sneak down' when we were up 14... only to be mercilessly pummeled when we mind-fracked ourselves
