thoughts?
-
surprise has to go to clemente. dude is probable all conference, probably 2nd/3rd teamer.
disappointment? did we really have big expectations for anyone on our team this year? kent/brown both exceeded expectations. colon/anderson/sutton are exactly what we thought they'd be. pullen's hard to label because he's so inconsistent.
i guess i'll go with hererra?

Herrera being a ghost is not disappointing because now he is leaving.

Suprise at the time: Winning @ Cleveland St. and @ Texas
Suprise now: Destroying MU
Disapointment at the time: Losing @ NU
Disapointment now: Losing to Oregon, Iowa, Baylor at home
I dunno. Could have put a ton of other stuff in there. The then ones are still disapointing just not as much so in hindsight :dunno:
-
Players:
Surprise: Clemente
Disappointment: the '08 recruiting class
Games:
Surprise: UT
Disappointment: Baylor
Overall:
Surprise: 6 game win streak - we had no business even being in the NCAA tourney talk and this streak got us there.
Disappointment: Las Vegas tourney - pretty much the reason we had no business even being in the NCAA tourney talk.

Games:
Surprise: UT
Disappointment: Baylor
Overall:
Surprise: 6 game win streak
Disappointment: toss up b/t Iowa and Oregon
Agreed on all accounts except the biggest disappointment was at Nubb. We didn't even compete in that game.

yeah, I couln't decide between @NU or BU...but we didn't really compete in either and BU was at home and has now shown to be a worse team than NU (though at the time of those games that may not of been the case).

True. Baylor was probably actually worse, but I drove to Lincoln and watched, so that makes it worse for me.
-
BU was a disappointing surprise.
-
players
disapointment: '08 class. Should have just traded all of our picks for players to be named later.
suprise: Denis though I thought he would be kinda good. Kent kinda. Lu kinda. Nobody was a huge suprise I guess just a bunch of small suprises which led to a better season than expected.
-
Players
Good: Clemente (grew into the team leader), Kent (contributing much more than I thought)
Bad: Pullen (I was hoping for more consistency and smarter decisions), Sutton (defensively is not as good as hyped, zero offense)
Games
Good: UT, @aTm
Bad: Baylor, ku (only because of the big lead we pissed away)
-
Oh yeah, add Sutton to my disapointment list under kinda
-
Surprise: That my pre-season expectations were met/exceeded by this team
Disappointment: That I let myself revise those expectations.
I am excited about next year. It's fun to have a decent point guard....forgot what that was like. Personally, I am getting really into the the idea of going to Puerto Rico for that early non-con tournament next year.
-
the surprise is that they've actually played just well enough for the outcome to be a disappointment...
...as is always the case
-
Oh yeah, add Sutton to my disapointment list under kinda
x2...I think my expectations of him were too high...I guess I was expecting his offensive game to pick up a little more.
For some reason the Baylor game bothers me more (now...not at the time) than any other conference game...maybe its because they are terrible.
All in all...7-6 is better than I thought we'd be at this point.
-
I didn't find anything particularly suprising at all about the season. :blank:

team did an outstanding job of building expectations through non con only to destroy them in vegas and oregon, reestablish them in remaining non con only to destroy them in early conference, reestablishing them with 6 game streak only to destroy them against uk and um - road the roller coaster this year
:excited: :banghead: :excited: :banghead: :excited: :banghead:
only fatty was able to maintain an even keel through out :blank:

Pretty much everything about KSU mbb is a disappointment
-
suprise
clemente
shot at 10-6
overall explosiveness when all cylinders are clicking
dissapointments
pullen
anderson
-
Anderson is the biggest disappointment. Easily.
-
surprise:
7-6 this far into big 12 play
disappointment:
curtis kelly hints @ greatness (got much more denclem hints last year)
-
surprise, clemente and samuels. neither really phenomenal, but martin proves once again that you can't just automatically laugh off his crazy statements/predics.
disappointment, pullen. not a major disappointment, just a little one. no major disappoints. for the katz, they've outperformed.
-
curtis kelly hints @ greatness (got much more denclem hints last year)
ryan wright v2
-
Surprise for me is Kent... I didn't think he was good enough to start full time on this team but he has really shown a lot of heart and has played well for a good part of the season. Yes he has had bad games but I was expecting his whole season to be bad and it just hasn't. I know a lot of us have bashed him this year but for a kid that was a break guy for beasley last year he has done all he can and then some with his low amount of talent that he has.
Disappointment has to be Pullen for me. This kid had such a terrific freshman season but has played horrible for a large point of this season with all of his turnovers he has had, even more than last year. He needs to be averaging around 15-16 ppg for a 2. His 3 point shot has been off most of the season and he isn't attacking the basket as much as he did last year...
-
Biggest surprise the team overachieved all the way around. They were picked 8th in the conference and if everything works out as I hope they will (3 wins) :hope: We should finish in the top 1/3 of the conference.
Disappointment That Ben Kenobi hasn't contracted and incurable finger disease where he can not longer type and maybe lose his voice so that is out too.
-
I don't get the pullen disappointment. he's the second leading scorer on the team behind clemente.
-

He's been about as consistent as OB'z bowel movements.
-

katfans were hyping him like crazy from last year's ku game on. it's more about ksu fans overrating him than him underperforming. he's been the exact same player this year as he was last year (except a much better on ball defender).
-

yeah, I was hoping for some growth in his game, but a couple solid bigs next year will help out a lot.
-
Pullen has improved a bunch on defense. And he's going to be the same inconsistent player offensively he was last year, especially without Bill and Mike to play off of. Hopefully next year we'll see a more consistent offensive player.
-
Hopefully next year we'll see a more consistent offensive player.
doubt it, he is who he is.
-
so sys, just wondering what you know about anesthesia and snake length measurements?
-
Next year, hopefully our bigs can be a little/lot more consistent and take some pressure off our guards allowing for Pullen to fully develop ans all around game.
It's a lot easier to hit 3's when there is a toss coming from the post after a defender collapses down.
-

i'm a &@#%ing expert.

He's decent at finding people around the rim after driving, but I totally agree about wanting him to finish.

wtf. stop putting pullen as disappointing.
-
Pullen is a disappointment. Like as big as Y2K. Everyone was expecting that to be epic and things just went on.... Or as disappointing as the first time you made love to a woman.
-
You're kinda mean dude. You beat us and we split this year. Why don't you go to phog and talk trash about the upcoming game?
-
Surprise: Absolute demolishing of MU earlier in the season, and the subsequent five games after. DC going off for 44, I wouldn't be surprised if he did it again though.
Disappointment: Looking like idiots at NU. Seeing 16 point lead cut to 1 before half-time against ku. I've been a little disappointed with Sutton this year, sometimes he plays like a Pussy.
I was pretty dissapointed in myself for melting down earlier this year.
-
wtf. stop putting pullen as disappointing.
QFT. Of course he looked slightly better on offense last year. WE REPLACED BILL WALKER AND MIKE BEASLEY WITH LUIS COLON AND DARREN KENT. JFC, people.
Also, his improvement in defense has been a surprise IMO.

At least Colon and Kent worked hard.

if any text ever warranted all-caps treatment for emphasis... that's it right there... but yet, both have improved and at times impressed

Rather than players, I am most pleasantly surprised that Frank Martin has coached this band of misfits into the top 1/3 of the Big 12.
Honestly, having inherited the best player in the country, there was no way to tell for sure whether Martin was a good coach or not last year. But, now we can say he appears to be a good coach. I am positively impressed with his game-planning, player development and recruiting. I was hard on Martin when we were 0-4 in conference (for good reason -- we were underperforming), but he has really turned this season around. I am happy with this season and have high hopes for the future.
:martini:
-
The good: UT, Mizzou, Denny,White tiger
The bad: Colon, sys posting skillz
The ugly: Mizzou loss = (

it does seem to have been hard for stupid people to tell.
-
I think why we struggled with 08 recruiting class, the year before we just had the number one recruiting class in the nation. Huggins left, leaving a unknown Martin as head coach. Beasley was sure to go pro, but Walker was a unknown. I believe that recruits these days are also looking at college coaches and their ability to get the young recruits a shot at the pros. There was alot of unknowns in 2007 and early 2008 for these recruits to take their chance on a unknown coach plus they would be following alot of good young players left at K-State. Martin has shown himself to be a good coach and as Hill as a good assistant I believe that there will be some excellent years in mens basketball at K-State.

biggest positive suprises:
+clemente
+figger's suits
+still in picture w/ regards to cousins recruitment
biggest negative suprises:
-no major non con wins. but could have seen that coming whn the schedule came out.
-sutton
-influx of tards on ksu fans bb
-
biggest positive suprises:

fantastic observation.

OK, genius.
I am on record complimenting Martin's coaching last year, but there was no way to say whether our successes in 07-08 were entirely contingent on Beasley/Walker without waiting to see what happened this year.

Did you guys notice leaning back/arms folded pose all game @MU? He usually seems disinterested, but I think he took it up a notch at Mizzou.

i'm agreeing with you. i don't understand it either, but stupid (most kazzu fans) people really didn't seem to be able to tell.

did you see the quote where he told samuels "about time you did something" after one of the games samuels was ok in (isu?). great attitude.

He's all 8-) because he's landing cousins and stuff.
-
surprise: Colon, definitley
Dissapointment: Sutton, while hes come up big at some points, he isn;t as consistant as I hoped =/, but really there are no true dissapointments from this team
-
surprise: being postseason bound after starting 0-4 in conf, kent & f.brown's improvement from last year
disappointment: not winning any of those 3 non-cons we lost, starting 0-4 in conf, sutton
-
Surprise: Player growth in Awaji, Brown, Colon.
Disappointment: Recruiting class. Can you imagine this team with Shipman, Ward, Spoon, Evans, or Kadji?
Also sitting in the section where opposing fans sit. Sqwaks are the worst fans ever.
-
what is the surprise about colon? he's still terrible? with the current roster he should only see the floor when we are in foul trouble. seeing him only play 9 or 10 minutes tonight was the highlight of my night...
-
As the season progresses, I'd have to list as disappointments the continued inconsistent play of Samuels and Pullen.
Surprise. Kent's play of the past few weeks.
Also pleasantly surprised that we continue to rebound so well.
-
Biggest surprise: Colon holding his own against Cole Aldrich for much of the game in Larryville (also, in terms of overall individual skill/development, Clemente, Samuels, Brown, Kent, and Colon have all exceeded my expectations ).
Biggest disapointment: Ron Anderson's play. He showed flashes last year...just haven't seen Ron bring the intensity this year. Having said that, Ron was a pleasant surprise last year, so it's a wash overall. ;)

Pullen sure, Samuels is a Freshman. He still plays like a freshman. At the end of the half he took that open three and wasted out last possession, putting us down going into the half. It just accentuated that he is still grasping how to play the college game. I actually loved that he had enough swag to take those open shots, whereas Dom shies away from those, but not in our last possession of the half. That being said, impressed he only got 2 fouls in 21 min.
