Title: So I was listening to Petro.....
Post by: catsfan20052006 on February 24, 2009, 12:11:04 PM
which I'm totally against but since I was somewhere that I couldn't leave and it was on I had to.

Anyways, he had Coach Martin and then Doug Gottlieb on. I turned it on right as Coach Martin was leaving and in his "Final Four" Petro asked him what he thought of Joe Lunardi. Coach Martin said something to the effect of "I don't know him but I also don't understand how three years ago he had us in his bracket and then at the last second took us out, got it right and get to take credit for getting most of the field correct". So, obviously, Coach believes, as I do, that he's not the amateur that he professes to be.

There were four things that Gottlieb said that I wanted to remember. One thing was that he said that the KSU vs. OSU game is the most crucial game left on KSU's schedule because that's where the "cut line" is for Big XII teams to get in. So I was thinking it was 4-5 Big XII teams that are under consideration but maybe it's actually 6. Another thing was probably him talking about how he took part in a Mock Selection Committee and that KSU was definitely in the conversation. The other two things I don't remember. Anybody else hear him and can help me out?

Why would anyone consider Lunardi to be an amateur?

Why would anyone consider Lunardi to be an amateur?

because the selection committee is amateur hour?   :dunno:

Is this true Daris?  Or are you just doing the same thing as you did in the "Free Quiznos" thread and trying to be one better than everyone else?

A friend sent me an email recap, so I don't know how valid this is, maybe somebody who heard it can confirm.  My friend said that Dougie brought up Gary Williams and Hill, and Dougie defended Gary Williams.  Upon which Petro went off on Gary Williams saying that Williams could've had Hill several years ago, and that Williams had gone asleep at the wheel in recruitiing, and that Williams comments were total BS.

True. I did hear that but didn't care enough to bring it up.

He is a charlatan. He claims to be something he is not. He portrays himself as an expert at predicting the 64/65 spots, but it is obvious from the incident that Frank Martin discussed that Lunardi gets leaks from the committee.

this is wrong.
gotts brought up william's comments about hill.  petro hadn't heard them and admitted to not hearing them, then pronounced g williams as stating fact and that g williams was in the right.   they talk for a bit about non-facts and how gary williams was a crappy recruiter but he wasn't going to go and hire a D Hill for a half million.  (both were wrong in that they agreed w/ g williams inaccurate description of the Hill-to-Maryland scenario).

they went to break.  i went into chick-fila and got my food to go.

come back from break, curtis seabold (tool) finds kitchen's article about the williams comments and hill's response to those comments on 810's website and reads it on air.  petro and seabold proceed to do a 180 and brow beat g williams for 5 minutes.

i finished my sandwich and went back to work. another example of petro sucking ass.

But what's the point?  This is exactly what he is, and I'm sure he gets paid pretty good for it.  I mean, how much traffic does he generate for espn.com this time of year?  Every time a new report comes out its linked here and I'm sure every other bubble team or team in the hunt for their low major league crown or team looking to improve its seed does the same.

These threads simply prove what a pro Lundardi is.  He owns us (and most college basketball fans really) and it isn't even a question.

He's an administrator in the St. Joe's athletic department with a lot of connections to people in other athletic departments across the country.

Contrary to what CBS would like you to believe, the conferences know of the participants from their league well in advance of the selection show going on air.  And it's always hilarious when he gets his inside info and then changes his bracket 20 minutes before the show starts.

Good to see Frank calling him out.  The guy is a total fraud.
