ku's got two nice weightrooms . . . BFD.

Plus those pictures cover about 1/3 of K-State's 13,000 square foot football weightroom.

The different bright colors are so a coach can look across the room and see who is moving some iron and who is being a pussy.  Very effective IMO.

Does Snyder even believe in weight lifting?  Heck, he didn't even bother to hire a new strength coach.

Yeah I think OB just wanted a couple of those old time dumb bells and maybe one of those moto-belt machines.

The weightroom is pretty nice and pretty good sized.  The low ceilings are the one thing I'd like to change make it seemed smaller and more cramped then what it is.

They calculate the number of flat screens in your weightroom and add that number of points to the scoreboard prior to the game.

Have to say that is a sweet weight room. Ours is  :yuck:. What is that a 8'-0" ceiling? Can anyone taller then 5'0" do a push press, or do they have an area where they take the ceiling tiles out? But what do you expect when you have simple minded planning and architecture firms design the buildings at K-state?

The hydrotherapy center has a nice view over the stadium though.

Last time I checked, most football workouts consist of free weights.  Like, for instance, a clean which is done under the K-State power rack.  In comparison, ku's does look like they have some sweet Lat Pulldown machines. LOL

Lighting is bad, hate the fluorescent lights.   Floor and equipment are good.   The new Equipment is a major improvement over the old equipment which was getting long on the tooth.

Mike Kent . . . still not sold on that guy though.

We definitely should have consulted an interior decorator on this project.  The key to a really successful strength and conditioning program is all aesthetics.  That, and whatever the hell feng shui is.

Looks like it is not football only:

The Strength Complex, which is 50 percent larger than Nebraska's previous weight room, creates the ideal setting for team and small group workouts. Huskers from all sports can work out shoulder to shoulder and side by side to encourage each other during challenging training sessions.

MMMM, the old country - gondollas, a fine bottle of Chianti Classico with the basket, the sound of those little Italian banjo things playing in the background and attracive women with hairy armpits.

How nice a weight room is doesn't matter. Its how hard the players work in it that really matter.

Those are at least 11 foot ceilings.

He actually is right,  USC currently does work out in the basement of some building, and the coaches share a little corner of the building as offices.  Oh, and their campus is in the hood.  Like the real hood, like boyz in the hood, hood.  Doesn't seem to matter too much to them, they actually joke about it.  We, on the other hand, need every possible edge we can get in the recruiting battles.  And USC is getting ready to build nice new facilities, because they say it has maybe cost them "a couple of recruits."  (So now they only have five 5*  RBs on scholarship instead of seven.)

LOL.  I couldn't give a flip about the facility itself.

What's hilarious is that in the midst of this massive economic recession ku just finished a $31 million football complex, is seven months away from finishing a $38 million athletics complex expansion at Allen Fieldhouse, and is already raising money for a $24+ million "Olympic village".  That's $95 million total in athletic complexes either finished, nearly finished, or in the initial stages in the last 16 months.

All at a time in which K-State's athletic administration is on the blink of administrative ruin.

Do you guys even bother to read the related articles . . . they're no where close to moving dirt on this.

I could go back 10 years at K-State and find plans to expand BSFS to 60,000 seats, put 40 new suites in the stadium, expand the Legends Room to triple its current size etc. etc. etc. etc.

But I am glad you guys keep coming to me to get validated.

By the time K-State finally breaks ground on their basketball facilities, ku will have alredy completed a football complex, upgrades to the basketball facilities, upgrades to Allen Fieldhouse, and an Olympic sports village.  They might as well just throw in the white flag at K-State and go D-2.

So the Olympic Village at ku is going to be finished in September??

But again, it's good to see ku is finally getting a facility that K-State has had for 26 years.   Maybe some day Mark Magino will have his own 94,000 square foot football indoor practice facility to practice in . . . and he won't have to try and duck around the dying trees at ku's stupidly designed outdoor practice fields, or cart the team across campus and kick the soccer team out of puny little, low roof Anschutz.

Anschutz-55,000 square feet (multiple tenants, portable old technology field)

K-State Football Indoor Facility-98,000 square feet, State of the Art FieldTurf Field (football only)

It sits next to 2 indoor practice facilites, one for football, one for baseball . . . our baseball program has their own indoor facility where they can take full infield and set up  multiple batting cages.    Both have FieldTurf.

Yeah, lots of Wheat Fields there Ben . . . A State of the Rekotran track with an incline training track next to it.   Stand alone track offices and track dressing rooms.

Let me guess, ku's going to put in more of those NASCAR steel stands when they finally build a stand alone track.

Is there anybody on this board that gives 2 shats about soccer?  I didn't think so.  Baseball Field- check
Outdoor track- check
Soccer Field that seats more than that joke of high school stands- check (but could care less even though ksu's has more seating capacity)

Hey it's good to see that ku might get something that K-State has had since 1973:

LOL.  Bringing it pretty weak dax, even for you.

ku has had a track, a softball stadium, and a soccer field for years, which you well know.  It's just that we're building brand new ones, just for the hell of it.  And that's after we've already completed $71 million in renovations and expansions in the last year and a half.

And this is no pie-in-the-sky plan; ku's already raising the money for it.  My business associates with the kuAD informed me of this project last summer.  I'm sure ku will be just as unsuccessful with this next $24 million as we were for the last $71 million.  Of course, that's not counting our $8 million weight room from 2002 which is pretty much already redundant thanks to our new football-only complex.

Tell me again about your robust athletic department?      :beerchug:

Dana Anderson-Broke

Tom Kivisto-Headed to Prison

ku Athletics-$54 million dollars in debt.

KSU-$35 Million in facilities projects over the last 5 years, the first phase on another $70 million to break ground this fall.

K-State didn't need to build a new football facility, it already had one (recently completed $10 million in renovations on it, ku FINALLY got one literally decades later)

K-State didn't need to build a stand alone track and FIELD facility, it already had one. (Recently Completed $3 million in renovations it, also just resurfaced the indoor track, ku will finally get one DECADES later)

Why is that so hard to understand.   So what if ku already had a track, it wasn't a true track and field facility, you had to do some field events completely outside of the stadium, and people have bitched for years about the track in ku's stadium (named after a felon).

You don't have to spend money, on things you ALREADY have.   That isn't that hard to understand.

Awesome.  $35 million over the last five years compared to ku's $71 million in the last year and half.

$3 million to upgrade a nearly forty-year old track facility compared to dropping $24 million in building a brand new one.

Your basketball renovations to Bramlage were begun under the assumption that Bob Huggins would be there for years, but he bailed after one season.  Whoops.  Not sure where the revenue's going to come from.  Fortunately you have football to fall back on.  LOL.

We're totally lapping you, dax, if you'll pardon the pun.

Cheers.   :beerchug:

LOL . .. I want to be the contractor who get the job for over $21 million dollars just to put down a track surface (average Cost $1.2-$1.5 million), some steel bleachers, a couple of concession stands and a storage building.    See, when you've already made the investment in permenant concrete bleachers, already have the area graded and ready to go, already have the support infrastucture in place, then you can do some great upgrades for just $3 -$3.5 million dollars.

Sept . . . K-State didn't need to spend $31 million dollars on football facilities, it already had a football only facility.  Why is that so hard to understand??  Oh wait, you're a ku fan.
Great job on those outdoor football practice fields ku, dead trees, easy to spy on everything, virtually unuseable with a paranoid coach like Mangino . . . . and the puny indoor facility clear on the other side of campus.   :flush:

With every post you show you don't have the first clue on how this stuff will be financed.

 at the chickentards pimping this. This thing isn't even a done deal, it's only been through schematic engineering design at the most, and they're already spending $24.6 million on ground work and sidewalks.

Seriously read the article sqwaks...
Quote
An architectural rendering of a new track-only facility being considered for the area south of the old football practice facility, along 19th Street. There would be seating for 5,000 people. Total costs of the track facility would be about $8 million.
Notice the usage of rendering...not design drawings. Also it's only being considered. You do understand the meaning of that word right?

Quote
The idea includes a 400-meter track and field with grandstand seating, new practice and competition soccer fields with grandstand seating and new grandstand seating for the softball field.
Again it's an idea not construction documents, meaning it hasn't even been priced by a contractor or permitted yet.

Quote
The Athletics Department released a draft of a self study Wednesday detailing information on budgets, master plans and many other aspects of its operation, including the Olympic Village plan.
Again this is just in the planing stages, and idea that ku has hired an architect to help them develop.  :jerkoff:

Ok you are building only a few things here (softball field is existing, baseball is already there and no mention of any work on it); (2) soccer fields, (1) soccer grandstand, (1) softball grandstand, (1) track facility w/ grandstand.

We know they are estimating the cost of the track portion to be $8 million, so now that leaves $16.6 million, or $4.15 million per each remaining portion of the project. I can tell you that Softball grandstands will not cost anywhere near $4.15 mil, neither will soccer grandstands. Soccer fields aren't going to cost $4.15 mil a piece either (even with ground work and top of the line field turf or grass).

So what does this mean? This means most of that money will be spent on infrastructure to make this all happen, because this is the FIRST TIME ku will have any of this. They are spending all that money on drainage, utilities, and general site work (lighting, sidewalks, etc) for that site to make it usable. What a total joke this project is.

EDIT: I just looked at google maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=Allen+Fieldhouse,+Lawrence,+Douglas,+Kansas+66045&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=50.244827,114.257812&ie=UTF8&cd=1&geocode=FcJlUgIdcIxS-g&split=0&ll=38.951716,-95.251379&spn=0.006074,0.013947&t=h&z=17&iwloc=addr) and realized that one of the soccer fields is already there too.  @ sqwaks having to spend $12 million plus on infrastructure.

Mr. Pierce, with all due respect, your football program wears the color purple.  One of the last things athletes think about when they're working out in the weight room is what the mascot looks like, or what color jerseys they wear.

There's a combination of things that go into a decision of picking a school.  You would know a lot more than I would obviously, but I do think that athletic facilities play a big role.  It's not a coincidence that ku signed its best recruiting class (on paper) after opening the Anderson Family Football Complex in '08.

Just as I thought...falling into a trap...
So is it possible that the square footage of weight room is one of the last things you think about when determining what school you will go to? Or the status of your program? Or your ability to win games?
Oh and that's with all due respect bmw...

And don't forget about the higher ceilings Terry Pierce!!!  uk's weightroom ceilings are higher and any fool knows that leads to better workouts right?!?

I gotta tell you dude...That has more to do with your record in 2007. Same went for KSU after the 1998 season. We signed the recruiting class that would eventually win the Big 12 in 2003 and it came directly from the 1998 wins. To prove the point even further...KSU had much better facilities in 06 than we did in 99. Also, KSU had the second worst facilities of any school I, Josh Buhl, B. Hickman, Ell, Sproles, Joe Hall, and countless others...We still chose to go to the school.

There are three major reasons why you choose a school...1. Wins 2. Prestige/Program History 3. Playing time or some promise of it. Along with this comes the scheme and how you fit into what the coaches are doing.

If Florida, OSU, Texas, LSU, OU, Bama, and Others had the worst facilities in the world, they would still have top recruiting classes for the reasons mentioned above....

Those facilities come after you win and get money-So it is easy to see why people believe there is a correlation between facilities and recruiting.

Isn't what you do in the weightroom more important than what the weightroom looks like??   Sure, I think K-State's weightroom could be  nicer, but it's not like it's crappy, and as far as I can tell K-State has all the same equipment that everybody else has . . . K-State has the same style of lockers in its dressing rooms that ku and pretty much everybody else has, K-State has the big logo in the floor of its dressing room just like everybody else has, K-State's got a players lounge with the flat screen TV's just like everybody else does, K-State's got the hydro-therapy room just like everybody else does these days.   At what point does it become a zero sum game??    The only thing I'd like to see is K-State expand the weightroom some more, and also build a training table on to Vanier, I hear OB wants that as well, I also hear OB wants a new outdoor practice facility.   If K-State does all those things, what else is there to do??  Build a bigger reception area, put in larger flat screens??

Here's where I differ with your opinion a little bit.  I think you're right about schools like Florida, USC, Texas, etc, etc, but for schools like ku and K-State, we have got to keep our facilities top notch in order to beat those kind of schools for recruits.  Winning, playing time, coaching staff, and those kinds of things are definitely more important in the grand scheme of things; when it comes to deciding a school.

However, look at a program like Oregon, for example, who signs kids like Chris Harper, even though they really haven't had that much more success than a program like K-State.  They are selling kids on top notch facilities and cutting edge sports wear.  It's a Nike village up there.  Just look at what Boone Pickens is doing at Oklahoma State... do you think they've really had that much success lately?
