Boozer, Kruger, Barrett and other 50s and 60s greats didn't get to play as freshmen.
Here's the list of 6 contenders. Looked at Henson and Jones, but their stats aren't even close.
Blackman's numbers are a bit lower than others but I would put him in above Redding and Walker because he was a true 2 guard and a much better defender.
Nealy probably deserves mention with 10.2 p/g and 8.2 r/g
If you pick a top-5, I think it comes down to Walker and Redding. Redding was helped win a conference championship with a frontline that went 6-5, 6-5, 6-5, so I'll pick him.
Beasley -- 26.2 p/g, .532 fg %, 3 pt 37.9 %, FT % 77, 12.4 r/g, asst. 38, TO 95, blk 54, stl 42,
Blackman, points per game 10.9, fg pct 47 %, ft pct 66 %, assists 45, to na, 6.7 rebounds/game, stl. na
Coleman, pts/g 20.1, 51.8%, 3-pt. --. ft pct. 74%, 8 r/g, ast. 21, to 41, sts. 25,
Evans -- 17 p/g, 48 fg %, 815 ft %, 3.6 r/g, assists, to, blks, steals not kept, no 3 pt. line
Redding, 16. 6 p/g, 42 % fg %, 83 ft %, 6.8 r/g 51 assists
Walker -- 16.1 p/g, .465 FG %, 30.7 3-pt %, FT %73.7%, 6.3 r/g 59 asst, 81 TO, 17 blks, 27 stls
