Title: Is it too late to buy ourselves out...
Post by: kcchiefdav on February 06, 2009, 10:42:05 AM
Is it too late to get out of our deal to play NC Central? I mean, we'll win the game but 400 pts but their RPI is so bad that they'll drag our number down along with the win. They are currently 338 in RPI (that is out of 343 teams). If not buy it out, maybe go play on their floor so it at least counts as a non-con road win. Playing that game could keep us out of the NIT (heavy on sarcasm). But seriously, who scheduled this game in the middle of the conference season? And NCC have the next 2 weeks off to prepare for the game. We'll be going...In-State rivalry, JV NCC team, On the road to ISU to fight off the hilton magic. Whew, got that off my chest...also, by the same token, can we cancel the 2nd CU game too(RPI = 223)?

Think of this game as the $500K game (I'm being generous I suppose with my estimate).  B/c that's about all we get out of it (minus what we pay these hacks).

We also get 2 home games in a very short time frame.  Great prep for the team and facilities folk at the 'Gon for our #2 seed in the NIT.

It's a chance for the scrubs to see the floor. A nice reward at this time in the season.

Confidence too.  Plus it puts one more in the total wins column.

I'd guess none of the players on the team really want to play this game.  No one wants to play a >300 RPI team in February, even the scrubs.  And there is little confidence to be gained now by beating the worst team we've played this year.  I won't be surprised to see us sleepwalk through this one and win by less than 20.

This game was added for the $$$ and that's about it.  Crazy that a team like this will still bring in 1/4 to 1/2 Mil.

After the uk game right?  Good strategy, IMO.  Play like ass after a huge win usually, this way playing like ass still results in a 20 point win.

guys- just got of the phone w/ some fairly high up people and heard that we might be getting out of this game. can't go into details but let's just say that we are talking with a certain school in the southeast part of the country. Hint-think sister school. :zipped:

What did you mean by "saute" over 84-75?  I'm pretty sure you weren't talking about the cooking method, but I can't figure out what you were talking about.

Supposing we are a bubble team, would dropping this one game really boost RPI enough to make a difference?  Let's stick to worrying about things like Frank's obscene language, okay?

The whole RPI thing is pretty silly if dropping a game that is an easy win actually makes you a better team in the eyes of the committee.  If that's the case, than wouldn't it be best to simply not play any of those early season tune-up games against scrub teams?  Maybe just schedule a whole bunch of closed door scrimmages against good teams, for the experience, and only play your conference games and a few games against decent teams?
