the problem was the turnovers, not the pace.

that + not being able to stop james or johnson wo fouling.  and giving away oboards like they were candy canes.

Especially when RA, JAM, LOU and espcially DK would get their hands on the ball first and then act like it was a big ball made out of HPV.

just checked @ 3:22 mark in OT looks like we are in box and one.  either that or the guys are mixed up about what defense they are in.  thought a box & 1 might have been effective when whorns were making their run late in the game slicing through the defense like a warm knife thru butter.

couldn't get the ball in bounds or past half court that last 10 minutes.  had no choice to up tempo cuz even when we did get the ball past half court 8 or 9 seconds had run off the clock.  it's not like we were running and gunning until then.

They are better than the guys in the studio after the game who said K-State's "game in Norman next Saturday just got a lot more interesting!"

Yes, just a horrible second half outside of clemente, overall.

I've noticed that when KSU gets big leads, teams have the most success on offense when they just put their head down and dribble to the rim.

This may have been discussed but:  Is there anything worse than getting a huge early lead on a super talented team like Texas and watching it get chipped away at for that long?  I was on the edge of the edge.  F'ing nerve racking.   :ohno: :runaway:  Obviously I enjoy getting out to big early leads on highly rated teams on the road but you know what I mean.   :users:

I think it's a learning process (holding, closing out big leads).  Lots of things could have been done better in the second half.  If Jake plays a little smarter, OT never sees light of day.  He played hard, but when driving to the hole, he HAS to get into the defender and draw contact. He took some hard contact on two or three of those drives, but didn't get the call.

Yeah, because super-ridiculously talented teams are so athletic, and really good at pressing, making quick, tough shots, and pissing of Rusty.

I thought we would never get to that under 4 timeout.

Yeah, really good players tend to make plays when games are on the line.  We were fortunate to build a big enough lead that we could withstand it.  When we maintained that 13 or so point lead until about 5-6 minutes left I thought we had a real good chance b/c that's tough for even really good teams to come back on even at home.

yes, them coming back had little to do with us playing too slowly, and a lot to do with not being able to inbound the ball/get it across half-court, get past the half-court traps.  And the fact that if they passed it inside they were scoring/getting fouled.

I thought the same thing. Maybe he jumps away from the basket at the last second? Maybe he doesn't flop enough? Oh well, we'll get those calls when Wilmer refs a game of ours; loves us. Loves us.

I know something worse - sd going ahead and declaring victory at the apex of the lead.

Terrible 2nd half by several players because several players had exponential shrivel factor.  LOL at Jake in all aspects of the game except hustle, and LOL when Lu just pee'd his shorts and threw the ball right to Texas.

Big props to Frank for holding them together, particularly in the OT.

That was prolly the only thing that secured it for us.  I declared it directly to Frank's Cuban god and he knew better than to let me down.

Who was dumb enough to say we slowed it down?  This was our highest paced league game!  No coincidence our best 2 league wins are our 2 games over 70 possessions.

Huh?  Jake had an excellent defensive game, not just hustle.  And shut up you've been talking sh*t on everyone who even stuck up for Martin a little bit a week ago.

Jake was good on defense I wish he woiuld learn that when you are not playing well offensivly PASS THE BALL, don't dribble into a five second call.  And get it to the hot hand, Which was anyone other than him.

i think refs have stopped giving him calls b/c he falls down after every single shot in the lane he takes :flush:

the pace definately changed down the stretch and clock management took precedent as we pulled the ball back into iso possesions on a number of trips.  imo

part of that was texas making shots and having a good press. can't transition after made shots.

+1

Anyone watching the game saw that when we started to speed things up, UT started killing us.  It fed right into their strengths.

UT had trouble scoring when we got them into half court sets.  They made it a game when they were able to muck it up and run.  Abrams shoots a better three in transition than he does out of a set, IMO.

Anyway, I agree.  I was digging the slow down game.  Very effective yesterday.
