When was the last time KSU opened conference play at home?

1996 Texas Tech, first big 12 game ever
i guess for giving us that sweet plum they decided to screw us the next 10+ years

There are people that swear Texas was the big 12 opener in '98, but I thought they played somewhere on the road that year too...can't remember for sure.
Well, just checked...and UT was the first conference game...and it was at home.

I find it hard to believe that a computer could "randomly" complete a schedule that had KSU on the road for 8 straight years and 9 out of 11....the probability of that happening has to be too great for it to be random. I don't think any other team even comes close to this.
If I remember correctly, the Big 12 has a random schedule generator and it spits out numerous schedules and then somehow it's whiddled down (either by the AD's or by the coaches) to some acceptable schedules. I hope it is freaking snowing when UT comes up to play this year.

Not when you think about the special exemptions made for OU, OSU, CU, NU, and UT...
Not to mention when people like ku and MU start dictating when they will play.
You do all that....and I'm not surprised at all that KSU gets bent over...KSU needs to start dictating that certain games of theirs be on certain days. (OU/Tex) A&M vs. UT, NU vs. CU, etc...and the computer might become a little more kind.

Personally, I'd like to see a KSU vs. someone matchup on a certain day/weekend of the year become tradition...like have the ku, KSU game every year on the Friday night after Thanksgiving...do a triple header on ABC, etc...

Everyone is afraid to be our rival, so it won't ever happen.
KSU/NU the Friday after Thanksgiving really makes the most sense. I don't think KSU is too keen on Thanksgiving weekend games, though.

It's a battle to get KSU fans to come to a home game when it coincides with opening day for hunting season (which always amazes me, I mean, it's not like the animals won't be there on Sunday morning). I can't imagine attendance would be worth a damn around Thanksgiving.

Our streak of opening on the road is a bit frustrating, but I find it hard to be too disappointed with our schedule this year. @ Baylor and OSU at home should have us set up to start Big 12 play 2-0. Go 1-1 and there is reason for alarm, 0-2 means we are in big trouble IMO.

It would be interesting to see how 0-2 would get spun...but I pray that doesn't happen....

It's actually 8 times in a row. Also, it isn't just a 50/50 shot at it. The schedule generator schedules out multiple years at once and should take into consideration past schedules. I'm more perplexed as to how KSU officials would allow this to happen.

That's true. Hell, maybe it doesn't take into consideration past schedules. But I would think that the probability that for 8 straight years we'd be on the road would be low. That's not a 50% probability thing. For one year it would be, but for it to be 8 straight times, that probability is fairly low.

Again, who cares anyway? You have to play the same number of games on the road as you do at home. Every damn year.
You have to play a first road game sometime. It should be a non-issue for any team.

whoops i missed texas in 98, all nicely nestled between northern illinois and northeast louisiana. must have thought i saw north texas or something and went right to colorado on the road.

One in five hundred and twelve if each year's schedule is independent of other years. It would be exactly the same for any pattern of 9 home/aways that you choose but that's not the right question because it being equally unlikely doesn't indicate that the draws are truly random.
The right question is, "What are the odds of that 9-year home/away streak containing no home games?" Every year this continues the odds of it happening halve. It's already far beyond outrageous.
