Wefald said. "You know what I'm saying? A little more irksome. I'm saying, 'I think this is what's best for K-State,' and I think Tim was more concerned about his authority."

nice dig.

glad to see we will contiune to get screwed by the big12 front office.

I really dont like TW but I think this was just two guys who got into an anatomy measuring contest which is never good for a university.  Interesting to see that (me reading between the lines) Prince play TW and JW against each other to get his raise and contract extension.  I think he knew he wasnt recruiting well back then and wanted to larger buy out to fatten his wallet and/or provide more job security.

Dammit why couldn't Wefald have been on that helicopter with Bush yesterday.   :curse:

Let's get this straight, next university president:  your job is to make sure there's books in the library, the faculty gets paid  a fair wage and kids are getting a good enough education to get a decent job.

Our University deserves all the crap it's in right now. All of it. Pathetic, Wefald.

Sadly the Weeper didn't go out the door with Weiser.

I don't blame Weiser for being pissed, but Timmy had plenty of missteps, and IMO was just to small time.  People I know who deal with KSU athletics say it's like night and day in terms of vision between Weiser and Krause . . . Timmy was a hand wringer, a chicken, had no real passion for KSU, and was more concerned about himself . . . IMO.   Weiser was right about Prince, but lets not forget that the paranoia about the perception of Prince's contract in the coaching community by Weeper/Krause was partially driven by Timmy's complete mishandling of the Huggins situation.

Weiser was right about Prince

We should start a rumor that Weiser was a racist to make ourselves feel better.  Like, "Hey, he didn't want Prince but it had nothing to do with him as a football coach...(whisper) racist"

Excellent idea.

You know if Weeper was a smart man, and frankly, I am firmly now in the camp of the guy being pretty much an idiot, I was just in the camp of the guy just being a goofy academic . . . he would've just stood back and admired his "I hired Bill Snyder" trophy he had made for himself, and rode that "legacy" and that legacy alone into the sunset in regards to his athletic director exploits.  Instead, he thought he was a "sports guy" and stuck his nose into everything.

Would one of you guys run a W-L total for KSU hoops under the Weeper.

As a back of the envelope guess I would say about 50±10%.  Solidly mediocre, but not tragically bad.

I can't believe Krause is still using the "he just ran out of time" line about Prince.  Not only is it BS it also makes him look like a gutless pussy who caved into the fans rather then doing what he felt was right.  Just step up and say Prince sucked and was running the program into the ground.  Look at what we have coming back in football this year and try to argue that Prince just ran out of time.  I mean not only do the players suck but he would have had to find a new DC and who in their right mind would have taken that job?

Jesus I hate our fans. Mediocre IS tragically bad. Get it through your skulls.

Biggest problem with KSU (and its fanbase)? Being mediocre (at best) somehow translates to being on top of the world just because it means there are at least a few schools you're better than.

Mediocre IS bad when it comes to recognition. If you're not on top, you're on the bottom (to paraphrase Ricky Bobby's dad).

I challenge anyone without sports geek knowledge to tell me who finished the football season ranked 10-25. I can't. Because I could have cared less. I only cared about watching the top few teams play.

I'd also be surprised if you could find anyone who could list a majority of the last 32 teams in the NCAA field last year. Consider that there's like 331 D-1 basketball teams. You make the first cut of the tourney and you're in the top 10% in the nation. And unless you make the Final Four or possibly Elite Eight, who remembers you? What non-alum fans care?

Ask a non-Wildcat/non-Kansan about KSU football and they'll say that they were good for "a couple years". Pretty much true when you consider they never finished the season with a top 5 ranking and only went to the Fiesta (major) bowl twice.

Point being, if you're not in the elite, you're nobody.

Guess what?  KSU is a nobody then.  If someone wants to run that smack on me for being a K-State fan let them.  I don't give a crap what other people think.

If you want KSU to become an elite (your definition) sports institution, system wide and fundamental changes must be made to the entire NCAA guidelines.

I don't like it when KSU is mediocre in sports for stretches, but I challenge you to name schools similar in size, affluence, and location to KSU that you would consider "elite".

I'm a K-State fan too. Which is why I care. Oklahoma (football/basketball), Nebraska (football), CU (football), ku (basketball, BCS bowl)... Similar sized schools in the same conference which can boast national titles and conference championships fairly recently. We've won our conference once. We have a devoted (albeit sometimes delusionary [see BigCat]) fanbase that is willing to donate to and support our university and athletics department if the direction was there.

We got rid of Woolybear and brought in Huggins (luck?): good move. We got rid of the binder and brought back Snyder. Solid move but sideways in some respects, i.e. who is his successor?

But we have (at least temporarily) a president who acts as an overlord in the athletic department, and his ice-fishing crony who has no business being an AD.

Point being that the fans do, at times, speak—to varying effect. But I think we should demand better. I'll admit that I'm jaded, but not so much that I expect K-State football and basketball to finish in the top 10 every year. I do, however, think we should consistently compete at that level. I guess I just think too highly of our university to have its national reputation sullied by the fact that we go two decades in basketball without forcing the changes necessary to compete at a consistently high level.

Football, we got a taste. Basketball? We threw away 40 years of being one of the top programs in the country because for some reason the fans forgot that we belonged there.

That's what he did nothing but hmmm and haw for 3 freaking years about the facilities projects that Bob Krause did more work on in 4 months than Timid Timmy did in 36 months.

dax, I'm with you bro.  But, you have to LMAO at how much a disaster our entire AD is.  Krause is Yosemite Sam (gotta love him, he tries) and Weiser is whatever cartoon character won't put out and is always worried about the temperature.  Either way I don't want either in charge of my AD office.  What are the chances that our new president walks in first day and does an Obama like re-tooling of the whole f^cking mess?  Hopefully it happens.

the letter wasn't needed.  it basically pointed out another incredibly stupid thing that he and Wefald did (the 10yr extension).

Krause more then tries . . . I'll set aside the personnel decisions because that remains to be seen.   Insofar as the things that will help out K-State athletics tremendously, and make the job of the new President and next AD much easier.  BK is doing it right now.   In terms of the current facilities projects . . . the people I know who have worked on this since its inception, say that working with Krause is like night and day from working with Timid Timmy.   Bob talks about bling to impress recruits and giving K-State athletes great facilities . . . Timid Timmy talked about . . . storage space, F'ing storage space.   Bob talks about a massive new pressbox to rival the pressbox at Virginia Tech, or Nebraska.   Timid Timmy talked about . . . outdoor loge boxes.

Bob talks about embracing debt to get you where you have to go in order to compete . . . Timid Timmy was scared $hitless of it . . . wanted to talk about "cash reserve funds", and wring his hands about how this or that couldn't be done.   K-State athletics operates way in the black . . . plus have you ever seen a D1 athletic department go bankrupt??  Timid Timmy was worried about his annual bonus, not about making sure K-State could truly compete.

That's JMO.

Regardless of whether you like Bob or not, this is a hilarious/embarrassing situation for K-State depending on how you look at it.  The fact that they explain away the buyout/money issue by basically saying they did a quick fix by hiring Krause and not going out to look for a real AD is just silly IMO.  It would be much better if they would just not say anything, even after the Meeks piece.

Well, I'll fully admit that I could be wrong about BK, but as far as a couple of very important things, I think he'll have K-State in a much better position, and if you think about it, no AD truly worth a damn would come to K-State as long as Wefald is around.

So as far as I am concerned BK is a good fit because he's hellbent on getting a couple of crucial things done that will position K-State a lot better in the future.  If BK gets it all done the next AD won't have to deal with it, and that in fact may make K-State more attractive to a good candidate.

You've got to be F'ing kidding me, they were paying Tim Weiser nearly $700K a year??     :yikes:  :yikes:  :yikes:

Folks, all the more reason to actually be happy.   K-State got that douchebag out the door and in reality is paying no more money to have done it.

Hell, I thought they were paying Timid Timmy about $300K, I guess that was his original contract, I never saw his new contract.

There is no way in the F'ing world that Tim Weiser was worth anywhere close to $700K a year.

Thanks Meek, that article made my morning.

Good points dax.  And you are right, no AD worth anything was going to come after what went down with Weiser.  And BK does seem to be doing a good job.  It will be interesting to see what happens there when the new Pres comes in.  BK has always been Wefald's boy and I doubt he'll be able to have the same relationship with the new guy.  But the new guy will have lots of other priorities with the budget situation the way it is, so dealing with the AD issue may not be high on the list, allowing Krause to at least finish his contract.

QFT^100%

It's like going home after you've lost 20K at the Casinos and telling your wife that everything's fine, we'll still be okay, but we just can't eat anything for a year.  University Presidents (and their like) are some of the dumbest smart people around.

Or what if they had hired Brock after Prince got fired and got this out in the paper.

Quote
But according to Wefald and athletic director Bob Krause, the roughly $500,000 a year Prince's departure is costing K-State, when coupled with new coach Dave Brock's salary of $500,000, means the university is spending the same money it would have spent had Prince stayed on and fulfilled the entire 5-year contract he signed in 2008. They said Brock is the lowest-paid football coach in the Big 12.

We would want them fired immediately.  I mean its ridiculously stupid.  If you're going to have a justification that sad, keep it to yourself please.

My point exactly. The thing I worry about MOST during this new pres. selection process is that Weefs is going to do his damnedest to try and sway the selection towards the candidate that is most like him. He's going to tell them about how important it is at K-State (because somehow we're a special situation unlike any other) for the academic administration to be fully involved in the athletic department's biz, and that they should know that about the job. :banghead:

Why don't we get a well-known, ex-CEO of a major company or an ex politician to run the university? At least the CEO would run it like a business and the politician could bring clout. I don't want any more hopeful Nancy boys from BFE Technical School to be in charge of our university. We need a big hire.

I am looking forward to the long piece written by the first reporter (seems like Meek may be the guy given recent stuff) about the complete cluster f^ck that was the KSU administration once Weef and Krause are gone.  You would need the new guys in position first because a lot of people/sources will probably stay clammed up while they are still employed by the guys.  I want one monster piece that covers all the aspects.  Once and for all put an end to all the "wefald was an excellent pres." nonsense.  Will be hilarious to watch Tim laughing from his tower at the Big 12 offices.

Praise be to Allah that Tim's gone . . . otherwise he'd still in in preliminary meetings with architects trying to hammer out storage space requirements instead of being in meetings with architects about what to put in the new men's basketball dressing room to impress recruits.

Then he'd be on the radio telling us in Myles Brand fashion (with all due respect to the currently ill Mr. Brand) about how he wants to make K-State the best possible environment for the student athlete (but do it as cheaply as possible . . . hey, I've got a $700K a year salary to maintain).
