Title: Bed bug bites suck.
Post by: jeffy on January 16, 2009, 10:57:48 PM
I've got 2 on my forehead, 2 on my right ear, one on my left cheek, one on my right shoulder, and one on my right elbow.

They came from the hole known as the EconoLodge (now known as America's Best Value Inn) on Tuttle Creek Blvd.  So much for trying to be a model supervisor and staying where the crew is staying.  I'm going back to the ex-Quality or the Clarion.

I did some hunting.  That motel was shut down by KDHE for a bed bug infestation back in November.  I have now reported them again, so blame me if they get shut down again.

That hotel is disgusting. wtf were you thinking? The hotel with the train tracks 2 feet away is 1,000 times better.

They've actually been making a big comeback over the last few years.  Google them and you'll see stories everywhere about how the numbers of cases has exploded over the last several years.

Must be Bush's fault!!!!! :powertard:

Every single person has bed bugs in your bed.

They live in the mattress, not the sheets.  When you are asleep they eat your dead skin.

The only way to get rid of them is to use special sheets as your mattress cover that are woven to prevent them from reaching your body, and eventually they will die out because of the lack of food.

The crew was staying there so they could smoke in their room.  I don't know if the smoking ban affects motel rooms or not, but neither the ex-Quality by the tracks or the Clarion allow it, so the guys won't stay there.  Like I say, I was trying to be the model supervisor and stay with the crew.  So much for that idea.

BTW.... bed bugs don't transmit disease, so the worst one gets out of it is a lot of itchy bites.

Hey, thanks for not pointing out that I spelled eradicate wrong.  I thought it looked funny but then was too lazy to go back and edit.  Then, I thought I would probably make someones day when they would be able to correct the dumb dumb and feel good about themselves?  Now that I think about it, you are kind of selfish.. :whistle1: (ftp://:whistle1:)

yes, but i thought it was just one of those mean parent things.  like when they sing that lullaby to babies "rock little baby, don't cry, you'll fall out of a tree and when the limb breaks your cradle will smash into a million pieces" or "santa is ALWAYS watching you, so you better be good or else" or something like that.

now that i know they're real i'm kinda freaked out about it.

Bed bugs are not that common in colder climates in the US. They are more commonly found in warmer southern regions but by no means do bed bugs not exist in KS.  They do.  Usually what happens is that people who have traveled outside of the US and stayed at less than nice hotels bring them back to the US in their luggage. They in turn infect the person's home and typically some other hotel room where that person stays once they get back to the US. The bugs are obviously nocturnal and they come out at night to feed and they crawl around the floor and get into people suitcases and clothes, etc. to hide. Then the person to goes to another motel with the bugs in tow and they infect another room, another hotel guest and so on and so on.  They not only live in tight mattresses but they also live inside the room walls and under the carpeting. I've seen people bitten by actual bed bugs and their bites leave a large nasty lesion on the skin.  It's extremely gross and doesn't look like some little mosquito bite or spider bite. And they are typically found all over a person's body.

Most legitimate hotelier's take very good measures in protecting their rooms and guests from these types of infestations.  Sadly some of those fly by nights don't.

Several rooms have been shut down at the EconoLodge, according to the call I got from the KS Dept of Agriculture.

Evidence of bed bugs was found.

If you don't want bed bugs then stay away from the Jardine complex at K-State. The international crowd there makes this a bed bug hot spot and Jardines crapty management does nothing to stop it (actually they cover it up).

Do you see many foreign students walking around with numerous large red welts on their face?

be careful with your luggage, that's how they spread.  they'll get in your clothes, your clothes get into your luggage, you get home with your luggage and bring new guests with you.  not good.

Worst bedbug bites I ever got were at the HotAfrik hotel in Yaounde, Cameroon.  If you think American hotels are filthy, try chilling in a Third World Country.  I had less trouble with bugs when I was sleeping in a hut in the rain forest than I did at the hotel.  Sheesh.

Bedbugs are nothing compared to pubic lice (i.e. "Crabs").  A friend of mine, you don't know him because he lives in Canada, had an encounter with those.

Obviously horrible but I would guess they're lightweight compared to a "scabbies" infestation.  After a night of a little "truck stop love" and then you have microscopic worms digging into your skin to "feed and breed".  Body to body infestations (f*cking) has got to take the cake.
